Phillips Seafood — Restaurant in Baltimore

To say that my experience at Phillip's was disappointing would be an understatement. My partner and I visited on a Sunday night, and although the restaurant appeared largely vacant, we still had to wait despite having a reservation. When the hostess finally seated us, she was impolite and barely acknowledged our presence. Unfortunately, the waitress did not improve our experience either; she took our drink orders without a greeting and abruptly walked away, leaving us frustrated, as we were already prepared to order our meals.

Our food arrived quickly, but the quality left much to be desired. My partner ordered a burger, which was merely average and was medium rare, not the medium that he had ordered (understandable, given this is a seafood restaurant but still underwhelming) . I opted for the Captain's Catch, priced notably high at $69, and eagerly anticipated a flavorful meal. However, I was thoroughly disappointed. The dish severely lacked seasoning; a few crab legs had minimal flavor, while one shrimp was so excessively seasoned that it was inedible. The remainder of my shrimp, clams, and mussels were bland, flavorless, and overcooked. The seafood, including the lobster and crab, was rubbery and tough, making it difficult to enjoy or finish. I have attached a photo of my food, I urge you to look at how bland the clam's look.

Service throughout our meal continued to deteriorate. Our waitress disappeared for approximately 20 minutes, during which my partner's water ran dry, and I needed additional lemon for my seafood (it is important to note that i only got one incredibly small lemon wedge for my entire plate of seafood). Eventually, we had to request these items from another waiter. When our waitress returned, she offered no explanation or acknowledgment of her extended absence.

Additionally, the restaurant itself is notably outdated-a detail I might typically overlook. However, combined with the inadequate service and poor food quality, it significantly detracted from the overall experience.

Considering the abundance of excellent seafood restaurants in Baltimore, I strongly advise dining elsewhere and not wasting your time or money...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Phillips Seafood in Baltimore, and I must say it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. Located in the heart of the Inner Harbor, this restaurant not only offers a beautiful waterfront view but also serves up some of the best seafood in town.

The moment I stepped inside, I was greeted with warm and friendly smiles from the attentive staff. The interior had a charming nautical theme, creating a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. The dining area was spacious and well-lit, providing a comfortable environment for enjoying a meal.

Now, let's talk about the food! The menu at Phillips Seafood boasts an impressive selection of seafood dishes, and I was spoilt for choice.

For the main course, I opted for the broiled seafood trio, a signature dish of Phillips Seafood. Each bite was heavenly, as the crab cakes were incredibly flavorful and packed with large, tender chunks of crabmeat. The accompanying side dishes, including the perfectly seasoned mash potatoes and seasonal vegetables, complemented the meal perfectly.

The service at Phillips Seafood was impeccable. The staff was knowledgeable about the menu and provided excellent recommendations. They ensured that my dining experience was top-notch, attending to my needs promptly and with a genuine willingness to make my visit memorable.

In addition to the fantastic food and service, the location of Phillips Seafood is another highlight. Situated right on the waterfront, I had a breathtaking view of the Baltimore skyline while enjoying my meal. It's a perfect spot for a romantic dinner or a relaxed evening with friends and family.

Overall, my visit to Phillips Seafood exceeded my expectations in every way. From the mouthwatering food to the friendly service and picturesque location, this restaurant truly deserves a four-star rating. If you're a seafood lover visiting Baltimore, Phillips Seafood is an absolute must-visit. I can't wait to return and indulge in their delectable...

Great food + Great service = 5 stars! Everything was good - atmosphere, host that seated us, waitstaff, food quality. Crab dip was the best I’ve had in a LONG while. The Ultimate Crab Cakes were very good; I will definitely order these (and the crab dip) again. My friend has the Seafood Cobb Salad (which was too large to fit on the plate). The vinaigrette that came with the salad wasn’t to her liking. The waiter brought another vinaigrette dressing that she enjoyed much more. This is definitely on the list of places to visit again. Remember, this is in downtown Baltimore so parking can be pricey.

• March 2024 Update ** To be fair, we were seated within a half hour of the closing time, so I’m giving them some leeway on this visit. The crab dip was still good but nearly as good as I remembered. It’s served with bread so it’s quite filling. It has really good flavor but it was hard to detect the crab. The oyster appetizers was really good. It only comes with three oysters (so it’s kind pricey for what you get). There’s this bacon-jam that comes on the oysters - YUM! I’d definitely get these again. The crab cake was as I remembered. It’s a good crab cake (not the best around) but it’s good. Here’s my only complaints: they don’t have a lot of options for side dishes so, what they have should be great! The mashed potatoes have a really good flavor but… there were hard chunks of potato in there. 😞 The asparagus was cold. Again, maybe it was because we were there at the end of the day. But, as I said, when you have only a handful of side dishes, there’s no reason they can’t be prepared properly. The steak and crab cake is a dish that I cannot recommend. The crab cake is good but the steak wasn’t seasoned and undercooked (requested medium rare and it was cooked rare). The service was good, which was pretty much the best part of this latest visit. I’m sure that I’ll be back to Phillips but they’re going to need to hit a “home run” on...
