This is supposed to be a Mexican restaurant, but the food lacks any spice or flavor. I ordered fried avocado tacos and tres leches cake to go. When I picked up my order, I noticed there were lots of outdoor picnic tables for the restaurants on the block and decided to eat outside instead of taking it home. I only had a few bites of the taco and it was bland and dry. It was just a fried avocado with a few shreds of lettuce and tomato (what they called pico) on top. I could not eat it. There was no cilantro, no onion, no lime, not even salt! I decided to go inside and ask for some salsa or hot sauce to help it out. The woman at the front literally told me they were out of sauce. You mean to tell me that a Mexican restaurant does not have any hot sauce any where, not at any table, not at the bar, that all of the patrons are eating dry chips with no salsa? I would have gladly paid for a side of salsa since I got my order to go or tipped her, but she deemed my request unreasonable. So, instead of getting to enjoy dinner outside, I had to take my food home and remake it with bottled salsa just to be edible.
The food got even worse once I started trying the sides. The black beans were undercooked and hard. The rice was.....you guessed it, tasteless! Again, no spice, no seasoning, no flavor. I didn't want hot spicy food, I just wanted flavorful food.
The tres leches cake was completely inedible. There was no way to doctor it up or fix it. Even my husband could not stomach it. The cake was not sweet at all; it tasted like a slice of dense white bread. There was not 3 milks, it was just sitting in plain ole whole milk getting soggy. And yes, I know that tres leches is in milk, but is supposed to be flavorful, made with sweet condensed milk and evaporated milk, and not soggy. The to-go container it was in was completely useless. It was full of holes, spilled out in the bag, all over my car and me. Since neither my husband or I could stomach how disgusting this slice of cake was (and yes, it really was that bad) it was thrown away.
What I should have done is returned my food at the restaurant when the server refused to assist me, and I would have saved myself the trouble of cleaning my car and saved my money from the wasted uneaten food.
Long story short, save your money, if you want Mexican food, heck if you just want good food,...
Read moreWent in on Sunday after the Fleet Week air show. There were five of us, three adults and two children (8 and 2). Ordered Jalepeños Relleno, Grilled Carne Asada tacos, and a couple of other things, plus some small things for the kids. The Jalepeños were good, very spicy and filled with lots of good stuff. Tacos were a little soggy when they came out, but tasted ok. The reason for my rating was the service and the billing. For the price, the food just isn't remarkable. I think it could definitely be better based on what they're charging.
The restaurant layout is cramped. The space is a fairly good size as compared to some other Light street restaurants, but it's like they tried to jam every table and chair they could into the place. A couple was seated behind us about halfway through our meal, and every time they wanted to move or we did, everyone on that side of the table had to stand and move to accommodate the other table. It was challenging, to say the least. The worst part about it, was the restaurant wasn't even that full. Based on the number of patrons in the area due to the air show, I think they could remove some of the furniture and have fewer tables provided a better dining experience.
Our waitress was not very attentive, and they really didn't seem that busy, so I had a hard time understanding why. My water glass and beverage were empty most of the meal, and she really didn't have any sense of urgency.
My principal complaint, though, was the fact that we had a party of five, with two small children, and they charged us for gratuity. I have never seen that done, and on top of that, the forced gratuity was 19%. Maybe that's why there really wasn't a focus on service. Disappointing experience overall. I...
Read moreBlue Agave Mexican Food is a restaurant located in the bustling and hip Federal Hill section of Baltimore, Maryland. It is also the home of the 32 ounce mimosa ($5). Came here on a blazing hot Saturday to brunch for my best friend's milestone birthday weekend. We were warmly greeted and quickly seated as soon as we arrived. We opted to sit outside, 90+ degrees and all. The staff joined two table umbrellas together to block out as much sun as possible. That was very nice of them. They quickly bring you fresh chips and salsa (free of charge) to get you started while deciding on food and drinks. There were plenty of food options to choose from so we sipped on a 32 oz mimosa while trying to figure it out. The mimosas were cool and refreshing, especially while battling the blazing heat. Honestly, they could've been stronger. There was more juice than champagne/sparkling wine. I didn't want to be a bother, especially since I was here for my best friend's special weekend, but the next time I come here I will ask my server to tell the bartender to add more champagne/sparkling wine. I can't remember what my best friend ordered for his entree but he clearly enjoyed it since he cleaned the plate, as did I with my chilaquiles con pollo. The food was so good and the customer service was top notch. The staff constantly came around to make sure everyone was doing fine. What a wonderful experience, weak...
