I'm giving this place 5 stars because they gave me solid quality sushi and amazing portions, which is hard to find in Maryland. As an example, for their salmon avocado roll, it was a substantial amount of salmon and the ratio for salmon to avocado was excellent. I'd say 2/3 or 3/4 salmon, as it should be, and they were really good size rolls. Cost was about par, but they gave me hefty pieces of sashimi, many extra pieces, and huge rolls, and it all tasted fresh. I live in Annapolis. Yama and Shika are my go-to around here, but honestly I might make the trip for carryout from this place. I just got carry-out. The inside doesn't really look like a place I'd want to go to for a dinner out. There's nothing wrong with it, but it's definitely a more fast-casual/lunch vibe, and if I'm eating sushi at a restaurant I'd like it to be a nicer dinner environment. The guy at the counter seemed very nice, and was friendly. I got a necessary phone call when he was trying to find my order. His accent was a bit thick, so I think we had a bit of a communication struggle with my name.

Unfortunately the menu I found online isn't nearly as detailed as in their restaurant... It's definitely missing options... But overall, I'll give this place 5 stars just for the balance of quality, quantity, and price.

Kiku, I beg you, don't start cutting corners on portions. It's infuriating. And more rolls with whole pieces (aka NOT spicy minced stuff) would be greatly appreciated!! I do like rolls, but I like the same quality fish in my rolls and want to taste them and they not be covered up by Jalapeño and tons of spicy sauces... Fresh options for unique rolls...

15% surcharge to all listed prices (on 2/14/23) but someone else commented this as well: I believe they are adding more than this to your bill.

We entered on a Tuesday at 5:26pm and there was only one table seated and served. We sat at the bar after some confusion with the sushi chef. There is an intense language barrier and you are best served speaking Spanish to the servers.

Our edamame was very mushy and luke warm. Miso was gritty and luke warm as well. The were swamped with walk-in and online orders and after 45 minutes we were ready to leave without our sushi. But the server noticed us checking the tickets on the bar for our order and he sheepishly realized our order had long since been plated and forgotten behind the bar. When I asked how long the sushi had been sitting, he did not know or did not understand my question. 3 stars for service unfortunately.

The sushi was beautiful! Five stars on the food! He did not understand my order (sashimi not sushi, no rice) but it's not a big deal and it was delicious. The rolls were terrific and I would definitely order for take out despite the pricing. Once it a while, I'd say it's worth it.

I would not eat at the restaurant. It's dated, and cramped with drop ceilings and Xmas icicle lights that don't work in places. Very "college dorm" with the lights and posters on the wall. For the price, you expect more. It was $45 for edamame, 3 veggie rolls and some eel. So 3 stars for atmosphere because of the price mismatch.

3 stars...

This is our new sushi place! It wasn't crowded like a lot of other places so that was really nice, had it been crowded service would have been really slow because it looked like only the sushi chef and one lady were working. The sushi chef was friendly and greeted us when we came in. The server was really sweet and even though she was busy taking care of everyone in the restaurant was genuine and friendly. Everything we ordered came out great. I love their spicy salmon hand roll, which they allowed me to sub for the spicy salmon roll in their three roll special. The sashimi appetizer was the highlight of the meal. We got three pieces each of snapper, tuna, salmon and white tuna and every piece was fresh and delicious. I typically am not a big fan of raw whitefish but this was fresh enough to be an exception. Next time I'm getting the sashimi platter for sure. They have a variety of Japanese burritos!! We had the wagyu beef and the Alaskan and they were sooo good. I loved the Alaskan one especially since salmon is my absolute favorite. I do think shoyou up the street has a slightly better crab mix but the fish was fresher here and the service was light years better. Kiku will be...

It’s edible, and the portion sizes are big. But the quality of their nigiri and rolls is lacking compared to other sushi places in the area. I got the regular sushi entree. The nigiri was falling apart on me, clearly it wasn’t well constructed. And it only came with the cheapest types of fish (tuna, salmon, yellowtail, shrimp, white tuna). My California roll BARELY had any masago on it. The fish was mostly fresh and the sushi rice seasoning was ok. I would eat it again if it were my only option, but matsuri and sushi shoyou are like a 5-10 minute walk away and have way better quality sushi (they are more expensive though). Also Service was VERY slow, like I waited 30 minutes for a simple order while they only had 2 parties. I was disappointed cause this place has good reviews. Probably because you can get a lot of food for cheap. But I wouldn’t recommend it. I’m not coming back unless I fall on hard times….
