Continuing my search for the best Burger in Baltimore brought me to Kooper's Tavern. They had been a finalist for best burger in Baltimore magazine and the only one on that list I hadn't tried yet. Maybe we came on an off night, I didn't expect to be disappointed on my burger journey but this time I was. Let me start with the good, the service was great, drinks were delicious, and those parmesan truffle fries were amazing. The fries were fluffy on the inside with a good battered outter crisp and the truffle was very forward. Now, are they worth the $5 upcharge ehhhh maybe not. But they were good. Now the burger. I was prepared for a half pound behemoth but visually the burger didn't impress me the way I thought half a pound would, no big deal, taste is what's important. On my first bite, I had to inspect my burger because I thought they might've given me a veggie patty. This thing was DRY. I had ordered medium but this thing had no juiciness or even grease. The mayo, bacon, and the bbq sauce I put on it were saving the day here. The meat was unseasoned or at least tasted that way, again the bacon and sauces were saving the day. The bun, also dry, too stiff, I think toasting it would've gone a long way. Bottom bun was falling apart before I even finished. And the pickles, if they're made in house, they need to sit longer or add more vinegar to their brine, not enough twang for me. Alas, this was the first disappointment on my quest. My friend and I sat in silence as we tried to overcome our surprise that this burger had made it onto such a list. Again, maybe it was a bad night, but I wouldn't bring anyone craving a burger here. Nonetheless the other items on their menu did look good, maybe one day I'll try out those.

what can i say, say what i can. Searching for the best burger in baltimore and koopers made it's way on the list as a finalist for best burger. So, i had to check out their food. immediately the half pound burgers caught my eye and the $16.50 Macguinness (medium well) and $5.00 truffle fries were the move. 100% black angus beef, applewood smoked bacon, cheddar cheese, and LTO with crispy french fries tossed in truffle oil, garlic, and parsley on the side? Yes please! Sadly no, milkshakes offered on the menu. i believe quality burger joints should offer milkshakes. So, im already feeling skeptical here. I did decide on trying their mango mocktail. At first glance, beautiful presentation. The french fries have an excellent crisp on the outside and fluffy potato inside. The truffle oil is potent and parsley just adds a nice color. i would have love if there was more garlic on them. The buns of the burger was thick, the cheese is melting, and LTO is going off. Im pleased. After a second glance. The burgers bun were too thick, i would have loved a softer bun. The buns themselves weren't stale just too thick. It was a battle just chewing. I would have loved if they were toasted with butter. For a half angus, i was expecting a juicy burger. Thiccc. The patty was dry, not seasoned, i even thought i received the wrong meat. Also it was flatter than i expected too. The most flavorful thing on the burger was the bacon and the LTO. I was disappointed and completely surprised they were finalist. Maybe it was an off night? I know both mine and my friend's burger weren't too our liking when we sat in silence trying to think of something good to say about our food. Burger: 2/10

I live in Philly, and was in Baltimore for a work conference. I had my newly adopted dog with me, and wanted to take him out to eat with me in the city before heading home. I chose Kooper’s because it was listed as being dog friendly- boy am I glad I did! The staff was soooo welcoming- no city attitude like I’m used to in Philly. As soon as we sat on the patio, multiple workers came over with water and treats for my dog. I really enjoyed the food but what I enjoyed the most was how the Kooper’s team made me feel as a single diner with her dog. My server was Ashley H and she was PHENOMENAL. Friendly, attentive, went above and beyond not just for me but for every diner around me, knew the menu and bar list inside and out, and was the definition of patient answering questions from guests about the food and drinks. I’m a restaurant manager and I was seriously so impressed by her. She is everything a manager or a guest would want a server to be. Honestly, every employee I interacted with was just so nice- and to me, that’s as much of a testament to the business that employs them as it is to them. Highly recommend if you’re in the Baltimore area!

So while my friend and I went here for lunch our server went missing for about 20 minutes. I kept trying to stop him and any one else I could find to ask a question about the menu. After he came back asking if we were ready I explained I had questions about the menu specifically things on the burger and the type of oysters they were serving. He didn’t have a clue about where the oysters were from, what sauces it came with, and or the question I had about certain burger toppings. Then another 20 min go by still no where to be found. We finally put in our burger order. I asked for Medium rare (a warm red center) I received medium well to well done it was a faint trace of pink but mostly cooked all the way through. Finally after the manager came by I explained our server went missing for most of the meal, waters were completely empty, our drinks themselves were empty and food was incorrect. The manager after I explained my frustration since the restaurant itself wasn’t busy at all said he would talk to server (never happened) he actually proceeded to walk to the service bar and laugh with the bartender. I finally caught his attention again after he said he would bring dessert which I did not want at all and told him I didn’t want. I asked for the check and to be split. He brought dessert and the check (not split) and waited for my payment. I explained that my food he was boxing wasn’t back yet, still waiting on food I ordered to take home to my girlfriend and the check wasn’t split but I djdnt want to waste anymore time in there. I left walked around fells left 20% by the way. When I went home my girlfriends side order was incorrect and my food I took 3 bites of was not in the bag. So a meal I spent over $80 was not only disappointing, incorrect and things went missing I decided to try and call. The phone number prompts you immediately to voicemail I have now left 2 voicemails in the last 2 hours and have not heard anything back. It took me texting a friend of mine that works at one of their partnering restaurants to even come close to talking to a manager or have hope to hear anything back. As a server this was a horrible experience. I hope no local / out of towners waste their time or money on this terribly managed establishment. Oh and if the shirt ginger manager with freckles tries to help you be warned that all of the above (mistakes I mean) were 50% his fault. So please don’t waste your time the experience was awful minus being with my friend I hadn’t seen in...

Happened upon Fell's Point for the Green Turtles' rockfish bites, but there was bar crawl going on the joint wasn't open to the public till 9 p.m. OK! So, I already paid for an hour's worth of parking better head to a place I hadn't tried. Thus, Kooper's Tavern. A bunch of folks was milling out and I thought this place must be in on the event too. I walk in and a immediately asked the bartender if they were and he didn't know one was going on. Cool, is I sat down and asked him for a pint and if their specialty were burgers. Yep!, and he hands me a pad with a list to build my own. Ground beef, turkey and wagyu (Kobe beef) and seafood (I think). No matter, I ordered the Kobe with extra toppings: blue cheese, avocado and arugula salad, prepared medium-well. It's Kobe, right? Don't to ruin it with a well-done char? A stacked burger came out with a tin of old bay chips. Now, as I am knoshing on the burger it occurs to me, "How do I know it's wagyu? I don't. But I am noticing that folks are being addressed when they come in. Three late 30's chicks are really kicking their feet up a couple of tables behind me and I look around and there is a sea of Caucasoids. Aside from a young natty-dread on his way back to the service area. Moreover, I noticed a young girl adjacent to the front door when I came in I recognized as a greeter right away, but she didn't greet me. Later, a couple of guys a little older than myself entered and she enthusiastically greeted them. So, I jokingly called her on it by stating, " You didn't say hello to me when I came in. Maybe it's because I am not be wearing a Yankees jersey tucked into a pair of basketball shorts, " She laughed and made a lame excuse, but followed with a 'hello'". Once my food came and the perfunctory query of "do you, can I get you anything else;" no one checked on me again. They didn't even wanna know what I thought if the burger. Guess they didn't have to ask cause I did for wagyu and got Wendy's. Oh, well you...
