Польша не досчиталась 15000 своих офицеров. Только весной 1943 года открылась миру страшная тайна, мир услышал слово, от которого до сих пор веет ужасом: Катынь Как известно, катынское захоронение обнаружили немцы в 1943 году, когда эти области находились под оккупацией Это только одно из серии военных преступлений, совершенных органами НКВД СССР в 1940 году. Я была бесконечно рада и тронута увидеть этот памятник в Балтиморе. Эта трагедия не должна быть забыта

This WWll war memorial was erected and paid for by money raised by local Baltimorians of polish descent. It is dedicated to the 22,000 Polish Army officers that were captured by the Russian forces, taken to the Katyn forest 250mi. from Poland , in Russia, murdered and buried in mass graves. It took decades of detective work to prove the Russian forces committed the atrocity. The monument was the original idea of Maj.
