Nestled in the heart of Cape Cod, Spanky's Clam Shack exudes a charming atmosphere that instantly transports you to a bygone era. The restaurant is covered with coastal decor and filled with older folks, who looked like they knew where to find the best seafood in town. Located just a stone's throw away from the beach, it's the perfect spot for seafood while enjoying the salty breeze. For appetizers, we couldn't resist ordering both the clam chowder and lobster bisque. The lobster bisque stole the show with its robust flavor and velvety texture. It was so rich and nice chunks of lobster. In fact, it outshone any bisque I had ever tasted in Boston. The bisque is a 5 out of 5. On the other hand, the clam chowder, while delicious, didn't quite surpass the chowders I had savored in the Greater Boston Area. Still, it was a comforting bowl of creamy goodness - a solid 4 out of 5. The generous portion sizes of both dishes offered excellent value for money, ensuring we left feeling full. For the main course, I opted for the clam strips. With each bite, I could taste the freshness of the clams. Squeezing a lemon wedge on top added a zesty kick that elevated the flavors. However, I couldn't help but regret not ordering the whole belly fried clams. It's probably tastes meatier, which is what I was looking forward to. Next time I'm back I'll try it out and see if my expectations hold true. The clam strips lacked a distinct flavor profile and reminded me more of calamari. 4 out of 5. We couldn't resist indulging in a classic Cape Cod delicacy, the lobster roll. Bursting with freshness and brimming with flavor, the lobster roll satisfied our cravings. It offered a more affordable alternative to the ones found in the city, making it a delightful treat. Though, I couldn't help but yearn for a salty, buttery sauce drenched over every inch of the roll, bringing it to new heights and flavors. The lobster roll gets a 4 out of 5. Our waitress added an extra touch of warmth to our dining experience. Her friendly demeanor and welcoming nature made us feel right at home, as if we were dining with old friends. Spanky's service and cute coastal decor push my rating to a 5 out of 5. Spanky's Clam Shack is a delightful seafood spot that captures the essence of Cape Cod. Its quaint atmosphere, along with the fresh and satisfying dishes, make it a must-visit for any seafood enthusiast. I look forward to trying the whole belly fried clams when I'm back!

5/6/2024 ... Located on Ocean Street in Hyannis Ma. 02601, "Cape Cod - the Florida of Massachusetts and New England". The Seafood here is "sensational", its fresh and its my go to without a doubt. Their food is delicious & nutritious. Just thinking about great seafood is enough to make you drool. Get your taste buds ready! Its casual, its fun, its a relaxed environment inside and out and located near the Hyannis Docks and the Hy-Line Cruise Ferry. Too many great memorable moments here and more to come. "Fruitt Di Mare" or "New England Steamers" or a Spanky's "Grilled Marinated Swordfish on Caesar Salad" attached photos, they are as good as they look ! Spanky's has just about anything that's on your mind.... Fried Clams, Lobster, and the works! Even the kiddos will love it.... Spanky's has a small private parking lot immediately to left of "their" building, it holds about 7-8 parking spots, its a tight squeeze, they also have a "Take Out" front door for orders to go with 5-6 parking spots in the front of the building if your car can hop the curb. There's plenty of additional parking in the metered public parking lot right next door abutting their address to park and enjoy Spankys in the Dining room or Bar. No matter where you are coming from, Spanky's should be on your agenda and a place to remember. Be prepared to indulge. Just think of the delicious entrée you could be having right in Hyannis Ma @ Spanky's Clam Shack. ** Verify their hours of operation I suggest a phone call to confirm their hours don't refer to the web page.

A lovely spot to enjoy some fresh local seafood outside in the sun. We picked this based on reviews and came away mostly happy. Server was really personable and the service for the food and drink was quite quick. Wide ranging menu from sea and land. The start to my meal was a cup of seafood stew. Really pricy ($12) for the size of the portion. Cup comes and the first thing you notice is that the stew/soup has "broken". oil clearly separated from the dairy. spots on top of stew were a tell tale sign. the taste was pretty good and the amount of seafood was very high so i chose not to complain. with all that it was not worth the cost. my wife chose a fried shrimp roll and mine was a fried cod sandwich. the shrimp roll most definitely had a tremendous quantity of shrimp-more than could possibly fit into the provided roll as a sandwich. these were delicious and clearly very fresh. plump and sweet and not fishy at all. almost worth the $25 cost. came with standard fries and slaw. she loved it. my fried cod sandwich was a large filet just as fresh and moist as the shrimp. as good a piece of fried fish as i've ever had. the roll was a straight forward burger style roll and it came with the same fries and slaw. but how is this $19? seems close to the area the fish was caught should reduce the cost. i know it's freshly caught and all but prices seem out of whack. i live in an area that is deep in fresh fish and i can get a similar sandwich for much less money with better sides. two drinks, two entrees, one cup of soup plus tip over $70. be aware.

I can definitely say it was delicious, worth the money, and totally satisfying! The restaurant was always packed with people. During the three months I was working in Hyannis, I often walked past the restaurant while exploring the shopping district or strolling along the beach, but I never had a chance to stop by. Every time I passed, it looked lively and inviting, with a steady stream of customers coming and going. I always told myself I would try it "next time," but somehow it never happened. Finally, right before leaving town, my friends and I decided it was time to give it a try — and I’m so glad we did! Even though the restaurant was quite busy, the service was impressively quick, and we were seated without a long wait. The staff was friendly and welcoming, creating a casual, relaxed atmosphere that made the meal even more enjoyable. We ordered a variety of dishes to share, including Chilled Shrimp Cocktail, Fried Shrimp with French Fries, Oysters on the Half Shell, and Shrimp Scampi over Linguini. Every dish was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The seafood tasted incredibly fresh, which is exactly what you hope for when dining near the coast. Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience — delicious food, great service, and a lively atmosphere. This turned out to be the last restaurant I visited before leaving Hyannis, and it truly left a wonderful and lasting impression. I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area. Don't miss it!

Visited beautiful Hyannis Cape Cod and on a lookout to find a good seafood restaurant with high quality food and won't break the bank. Local recommendations led us to Spanky's and were glad that we tried this place. We sat outside overlooking the harbor and enjoyed the cocktail drinks we ordered - Love on the Docks and Dark & Stormy. They don't cheap out on the booze but just disappointed that they're served in plastic cups. We wanted to try the Stuffed Quahogs for starters since this is one of Cape Cod's delicacy. There's so much flavor packed into one bite - crispy from the breading, tender clams and cheesy and garlicky from the other ingredients. Must try when you're in Cape Cod. For mains, we had the Lobster Roll and Cape Cod Fish and Chips. Both came with french fries and coleslaw. Portion sizes were very generous, prices were reasonable and seafood was fresh and cooked to perfection. Would have preferred the lobster roll to be a little bit warm and more spices incorporated into the dish. Service was excellent with Catie being our server. Such a sweet and nice person, always checking to see if everything was okay or to refill our water glasses. If you enjoy seafood and wonderful seaside views, you would definitely want to try Spanky's Clam Shack & Seaside Saloon.

This place is an overpriced tourist trap. I ordered the fried clam strip dinner with coleslaw and fries. The slaw lacked any flavor, and the clam strips were placed in a single layer on top of a large mound of soggy room-temperature fries. The restaurant is located next to docks where ferry boats that connect to Nantucket Island and Martha's Vineyard load and unload passengers. So, they have a captive clientele who want to eat before leaving, or after returning to, the mainland. Although the food was disappointing, the service was very good, and the ambience at their outside tables was exceptional. UPDATE-1: A year after our first visit, we decided to give this place a second try. Overall, no improvements but we may be learning how to order better. Tried the fried shrimp platter. I asked them to separate the fries from the shrimp, and indeed the fries were crispier than on our first visit when they were limp after being covered with fried clam strips. However, the fried shrimp were not as good as the fried clam strips and the coating fell off easily. My wife enjoyed her seafood bisque but found the lobster salad bland. UPDATE-2: Went back to the fried clam strips with french fries on the side. Quite enjoyable. My wife liked her scallop salad.
