I sincerely hope that the management of Storehouse understands that the following review comes from someone who absolutely wants to see them succeed, but has unfortunately had some pretty disappointing experiences during recent visits.
We've been coming to Storehouse since opening weekend and were so excited to have something of its quality in town. Sure, the menu is pricier than your average Bastrop restaurant, but that's because the food is of infinitely higher quality. Chef Sonya Cote is a genius, and the ingredients are grown fresh from their farm just down the road. Such a delight.
In its earlier days, the service at Storehouse was also top tier. The staff was full of familiar and friendly faces, and it felt like everyone took a lot of pride in what they did.
Over the past year or so, however, each of our visits have been disappointing. While the quality of the food remains incredible, the service is just downright bad. "Inattentive" would be the most polite way to describe the attitude of the service staff, as well as overwhelmed (Even though the restaurant is small and it hasn't been particularly busy on the days we've gone).
After finding that the price of Storehouse wasn't aligned with the quality of service we received, we hadn't felt compelled to visit for nearly a year. But we were enticed by their new brunch menu and decided to give it another try last week. Truly, what a disappointment that was. The bartender appeared more irritated by our presence than anything else. She rolled her eyes at us when we arrived and it took her 20 minutes to make/serve our coffee and iced tea. Our waitress was nice enough, but she very rarely checked in on us. We ordered their basic breakfast (eggs, toast, potatoes), which took 45 minutes for them to bring out. When it arrived, it was missing the butter and jam it was supposed to come with, and our waitress didn't check in on our table again for 20 minutes, so we were unable to ask for these ingredients.
Again, the food is delicious. No doubt about it. I just wish that service was a higher priority for Storehouse. I want to support this place so badly. We need restaurants like this in Bastrop. But unfortunately, I can't justify spending upwards of $100 on a meal if the...
Read moreMyself, husband and friends are in utter shock with the way we were treated this evening. We had reservations for 5:30pm and arrived early a little before 5pm. There was an open sign outside and the doors were open. We went inside to either wait for our reservation or see if we could get in sooner as it was raining pretty hard. We stood inside for maybe a minute and a women with brown hair maybe in early 30s or late 20s comes marching around the corner and in a rude tone says “you can’t be in here, we aren’t open yet”. Just prior to her comment we heard a male speaking to another women in the back part of the restaurant that came through the patio door. She told him we are not open yet but feel free to sit and wait. My husband said we came in because your sign outside says you’re open and we have reservations. She said again rudely “well we are not open and you need to leave now”!! I said it’s “raining allot” can we just wait here by the door especially since you’ll be open in a few minutes and we have reservations. She literally went to the door and opened it and said they were doing staff shifts and we needed to leave now. She went and grabbed the open sign and then as I left she grabbed the door slammed it and locked it! For being in the service industry you wouldn’t expect to be treated this way! You think after the way she threw us out and treated us we would actually wait in the rain and then return for our reservation? I don’t think anyone would! We walked to 602 where we received amazing service and enjoyed a wonderful meal! Not sure if this women was the manager, hostess or waitress. But it is apparent that she does not know what service means and would be in the restaurants best interest if she didn’t represent your company! We will absolutely not be coming back and will be letting all our friends in Batrop and surrounding areas how we were treated!!! It’s really too bad as we have enjoyed your meals prior to this...
Read moreI have been to this restaurant several times and have enjoyed wonderfully prepared meals. For this reason, I chose it as the restaurant for a celebration of my father's 94th birthday. Today, however, was a huge disappointment. We waited over 5 minutes for the hostess to seat us for our reservation. We we waited 15 minutes for our waiter to take our order. In general, food was very slow coming out (which I can forgive if it's good when I get it).
For brunch they serve a basket of biscuits for $12 that contains 3 biscuits (so, each biscuit costs $4). We ordered 2 baskets. The small biscuits were over-baked to a dark brown. We returned one of the baskets and received a replacement slightly over-baked, but edible. $4 a biscuit and it's not perfect? Seriously? I say go to Texas Grill where they make perfect biscuits.
The fried chicken dish came out with blackened spots on the crust (that is burned) in several places; again over-cooked. When we returned the chicken, the chef sent a message saying the chicken couldn't be fixed because that's how it's made. Really? How many of you serve fried chicken with a crust so burned it's black in places? Popeyes doesn't even do that.
I am still furious. Yes, they removed the charges for the over-baked biscuits and burned chicken. But, that didn't fix that a special family celebration was marred by a very poor performance in the kitchen.
I note here that the French fries which are usually delicious were also overcooked.
Get your act together Storehouse. You have been a great restaurant. But gaslighting the customers for your mistakes in the...
