Where do we start. The atmosphere was lively that's a good sign.
First off drinks,
I chose the Bayou Sunset. Nice tasty zing of orange with rum in. It. My other half had a coke. Filled just right not too much ice and taste great.
The appetites was awesome. Boudin balls, shrimp gumbo, bacon wrapped shrimp in BBQ.
It was very tasty, the bondin sauce got a kick to it. So it will clear out your nasal. Gentle touch on the palate.
Bacon wrapped BBQ shrimp quite tasty, the shrimp was cooked to perfection and the bacon was crispy.
Gumbo shrimp mmm very tasty plenty of shrimps and other hidden gems.
Next up Sald, very vibrant salad crisp crunch very refreshing salad with the choice of raspberry dressing and mine was vinegar and oil.
Bottles coukd be cleaned bit better feel the oil on the bottle n vinger was bit gritty.
Next Main course,
Vermillion
Very tasty the Mahi had sautéed shrimp with a nice layer of garlic butter onion mushroom on top of the Mahi. The Mahi on the thick side was a bit dry in the center and the thinner portion was moist. The side was Sweet potatoes mashed. Very vibrant in color, the hint of cinnamon, brown sugar and walnut. Over all great plating as well.
Delacroix about the same as the Vermillion the shrimp was spot on garlic n butter hint of lemon and was very tasty. The hushpuppies are amazing crispy on outside n crunch on the inside can't go wrong. The Mahi same as my partner the thicker part was dry n the thinner part was moist. Even dipped in the sauce the thick part was dry...
Lastly the Table. It was a table that shoukd been leveled a rocking table tends to spill your drink. It was a bit of challenge holding the table down with our feet to keep it rocking.
Over all the waiter was awesome gave him some heads up one thing I woukd not recommend putting a glass of water on the outer edge of the table someone come by whoops its on the customer n on the floor.
Overall it was enjoyable. Can't go wrong woukd come again but please...
Read moreAfter leaving Muncie, Indiana yesterday morning and driving over 900 miles over two days, my first stop in Baton Rouge was Parrain’s Seafood Restaurant. A quick search for oysters led me to this highly rated spot, and given my love for raw oysters—or really, oysters in any form—I had no choice but to dive right in.
Despite it being 2:30 on a Sunday afternoon, the place was packed, which, according to my server Jared, is the norm here. That’s always a good sign. Jared offered cheerful and attentive service and readily answered all of my questions.
I started with a dozen Gulf oysters on the half shell—fresh, plump, and briny in the best way. To contrast the delicate raw oysters, I followed up with a half-dozen of their char-grilled Black Jack oysters. Topped with a pepper jack cream sauce, crumbled bacon, pickled jalapeños, and buttered toast points, these were rich, smoky, and decadent—an incredible contrast to their raw counterparts.
For my entrée, I went with a local favorite: andouille-crusted fresh Drum, panéed to perfection. This dish featured a crispy crust of andouille sausage, crawfish tails, and mushrooms, all smothered in an andouille cream sauce. It was indulgent, bold, and bursting with Cajun flavors.
A crisp house salad with their unique Tabasco-Pepper Jelly Vinaigrette added a bright, tangy contrast to the richness of the meal. And, of course, I paired it all with an Abita Amber lager—because nothing complements Louisiana flavors better than a local brew.
The energy in Parrain’s was infectious, the flavors deep and soulful. Cajun and Creole cooking is an experience unlike any other, and as I soaked in the aromas, the sights, and the sounds, I could almost hear Louisiana whispering, “Welcome!”
I certainly plan to go back to this new discovery. If you’re visiting Baton Rouge, I would certainly recommend this amazing restaurant.

If you know by know, you know I’m always dining with my dearest of friends, and this time was no different. In addition, we were in town to support another dear friend and colleague for her wedding. This meal plus that ceremony made for a truly celestial experience.
For starters we ordered BOUDIN BALLS and share a SEAFOOD GUMBO. Ohhhh my word, when I tell you, I had to seatbelt my self to the chair because I was about to float away in pure bliss!! The Gumbo was so hearty, packed with flavor and the perfect balance of savory, spice and a bit of tang. And those Boudin Balls! I could have easily had two additional orders to go…but I had a suit to put on. :)
For the Main Course, I had the CATFISH PLATTER (BLACKENED), which came with DIRTY RICE, FRIES & HUSH PUPPIES… My stomach just rumbled, see what happens when I leave a review on an empty stomach? I NEED that dish again. The Blackened Catfish was made to perfection, the epitome of Love given the Cajun seasoning and spice; that Dirty Rice was everything to live for. Honestly, I have never had Dirty Rice so tasty, so if there is another restaurant who can contend, then this is your call in to show me. The Hush Puppies were seasoned to perfection, dense and fluffy at the same time on the inside (I don’t even know how that’s possible) and a crispy golden layer on the outside. Pure. Heaven. Anyone who knows me knows how much I love Fries, so that was the cherry topping for me. Washed all down with an Arnold Palmer and floated on to the wedding.
All that to say, I am willing to return to Baton Rouge solely for another Parrain’s Seafood experience. If you’ve never been I urge you to get there yesterday, and tell them I sent you! If you happen to see me there, you already know what to do! Don’t just stare, pull up a chair, say hi and let’s dine...
