This location was packed, you should definitely call in ahead to see if they will allow you to reserve a table. I called the night before and was informed that I could not reserve a table the day before, but would be able to the next morning. I neglected to call in that morning. This resulted in us having an hour 15 wait, but thankfully my table was called for seeding approximately 32 minutes later. Out of all these specialty roles we tried, we like the masa roll the best. And found that the regular Crunchyroll to be much better than expected. That stated we were rather disappointed in the double Crunchyroll which is on the specialty rolls list. The inside of the roll had far too much sweet potato hash and we didn't find that the cream cheese did anything for the roll. The center of the roll was just mushy almost like baby food. If some of the crab meat would have been it in the center of the roll like it is for the regular crunchy roll, we both thought that would have made the role much better than what we experienced. The quality of the roll was fine, it was just far too much sweet potato and cream cheese. I feel as though the roll would be fine with either the sweet potato hash or the cream cheese if there was crab at the center of this roll, but having both without any crab, did not please our table. For those reasons, I just don't recommend you getting the double crunchyroll. The tuna totaki was probably the best thing we had. It is an appetizer and we ended up ordering 16 pieces of this item. Comparing this appetizer to the Lafayette location, though, I found something was not right with the sauce that is on the tuna. It It appeared to be watered down or the very least the flavor or potency of the sauce was not nearly as vibrant as what I've come to expect when I visit the Lafayette location for the same appetizer. The tuna totaki was still our favorite for the appetizers we tried, it is not the same appetizer that you get at the Lafayette location. As what you should expect at a sushi masa location, the customer service is great and even though the restaurant is at capacity, you will get your in rolls and within a few minutes of ordering them, however, our waiter did take substantially longer to check in on us for us to put in those orders then in previous experiences at other locations. To be clear, this was our first time at sushimasa at their baton rouge location. While the experience wasn't terrible, I would 100% go back to the Lafayette location and be excited about it, but I'd only go back to the baton rouge location if I had a friend that wanted to try it who has never been to any sushi...

My food was fine. Two simple rolls. However my friends did not have a good experience. Our server skipped over us multiple times while we had empty glasses. One friends chicken was not cooked right, either overdone or undercooked. Several tables came in after us and left long before us. His second order took way too long to come out and other tables had their food before him.
Despite how good my food was, I will not be returning here. Another Sushi Masa will need to do their damndest to make me feel like coming back.
Here's an update. My friend got his food nearly 30 minutes later, after his wife got two more items. His food had been done and was just sitting back in the kitchen. This is sad.
Here's another one. They include gratuity in the price automatically. No options for any kind. Our service was not worth 18% gratuity.
Now, granted it may have been our server, but he (Alex) waited tables much better than he did ours. If I were to come back at all I would ask for another waiter or waitress.
NEW REVIEW:
Tried Sushi Masa once again after hearing from several people that the experience has been greatly changed for the better. After arriving, my friends ordered once again the All You Can Eat, and this time, food was delivered within five minutes, everything they ordered was delivered within that timeframe or slightly longer (but not super long). Everything was fresh and warm, and cooked correctly. My personal order was delayed only bc of the influx of orders, not a problem. Our waitress, Maxi, was an ABSOLUTE delight. She made sure to check on us and provided 10/10 service. After this renewed experience, I do not mind...
Read moreWe ordered the salmon nigiri, the salmon, kinda not there. It was really skinny like I could see the rice through it and not only that, but it was really fishy and not very smooth and buttery as most salmon nigiris are. Might get poisoned going here. Rainbow roll: was alright, for some reason our second round of rainbow roll was very bitter at the after taste. How is that possible? Maybe the cucumbers but like no answer to that just seemed normal to our server. Mango roll was pretty decent not terrible not great. Shaggy Dog Roll: or something like that was pretty mid do not get its like grocery store sushi level saucy nasty kani only. mid. Clear soup was not even clear first of all, but also that thing was ocean water filled with salt and big ol slices of mushrooms. Disgusting do not get. Chicken Fried Rice: was by far the most mid of the mid fried rice ive ever seen. Would not eat as a struggle meal. That chicken came from a can I know it. And it was old. Ginger Salad: why is ginger salad so spicy?????? Like not a single drop of sweetness like every sushi resturant has almost the same ginger dressing like go get you some kikoman ginger dressing man that thing was nasty. Spicy Kani Salad: was super saucy like tooo saucy maybe dont get that if ur not a fan its also grocery store level. Tempura Shrimp: why is it tempura shrimp if its not tempura? Why is there panko? Do y'all know what tempura is? I know you do because your vegetables ARE TEMPURA???? MAKE IT MAKE SENSE? Tempura Vegetables: by far the best thing we could find the whole lunch menu. We had to order sweet potato and onion tempura to fill up because the rest of meal was so atrociously bad.
