My first visit here was decent. The food was not excellent but was good. If the price was a little cheaper, it would make more sense. It is overpriced for what it is... their quality just does not match the price. The only thing I really loved was the frozen strawberry margarita but this was also really expensive.
I expected my second visit to be similar but it was horrible. My server was really bad at doing his job. Once I entered the restaurant, he touched my shoulder and called me, “friend.” Acting friendly is not something bad but he acted like he knew me and kept touching my shoulder and was too close to me when he came by. Then, he brought us a wrong order. I asked for a combination fajita for two people but he gave us one combination for one person. I asked him three times to make sure and he said yes I understand. But, he didn’t. Then, he brought out the other half after being corrected. He kept coming by asking if the food is good and if we needed anything else. I told him we are good. Then, he came again and asked us if we are done with our nacho and salsa and even before I could answer, he put in trash in the bowl. Then, I said no we are not done... and he took out the trash out from the bowl and tried to serve it back to us. After we got done eating, we got charged for two combination plates which was a dollar more than the combination for two. We were so fed up and just paid and left. He kept answering yes to my questions but it took him at least three times to understand what we wanted. This is unacceptable. I understand if your first language isn’t English but this has to deal with service training. I don’t know how they expect their customers to deal with a server who doesn’t understand how to understand and know how to serve. Although, the ambience is nice, their food is overpriced and their service sucks. Don’t waste your money. You will...
Read moreI was really excited about trying out a new taco n tequila spot in BR. I mean you can't really go wrong with Tacos and Tequila right?... WRONG. Everything was less than mediocre. When we first arrived the building inside and out looks amazing. The atmosphere is perfect the décor is stunning. Now the food and service is another story. We ordered drinks and waters at first and they actually came out in a decent time. Now we we were trying to order off the menu but couldn't find tacos no where on the menu. Now there was a Tuesday menu with tacos on it but we were there on a Monday. So from the naked eye I didn't know if we could order tacos on a Monday or what is the price. Also next to some items on the menu it stated "pick your heat" well again I'm assuming we can pick how hot we want the food...like with a special sauce or something. Well that wasn't the case. I order one of the items and never got a chance to "pick my heat" The food came out and had ZERO flavor. My dish had too much juice in the bottom of the bowl... seems like they forgot to drain the meat before putting it in the bowl. My brother said the tacos had no flavor at all. So by this time our waiter had disappeared. We were just over it and ready to go. We sat for about 20 more mins and I asked the manager for our check and he brought more chips out. I said no we want our check. Well the manager ask who was our server? I couldn't give him an answer because the servers don't wear name tags and they don't greet the table by introducing themselves. I assumed he should know what tables he assigned he wait staff. Now I don't mind paying for good food and great service. But my 43.00 bill did not match up to my experience at this restaurant. What I would suggest is bring someone into the kitchen to take over and add flavor to everything...
Read moreA solid new contender in baton rouge. This place is between authentic and tex mex.
First of all the margarita is excellent!! Fresh squeezed frozen with a not too sweet not too tart flavor.
The blanco only option queso was very similar to don Jose on College dr. Finely minced peppers, slightly runny sauce. The chips were dry (kind of crumbly and you need a close drink) and not much salt. The salsa had a tomato juice base, and I mean not chunky.
The first soup shown was the blue corn soup. It was piping hot but I could not appreciate the very authentic flare.
The second soup shown was the cantina soup. Even though it was described with fried shrimp as an ingredient they were apparently not. Let me tell you though. It had the deepest shrimp stock taste I've ever experienced with a soup. Chef quality! It had a red peppery spin I might add. Salt was on the mark.
I ordered the mahi mahi peruano and shrimp ceviché, mild. They sent one with habanero instead. It didn't take me long to send that spicy one back. The corrected mild version was off the chart great.
The kids got the chicken and steak fajitas. They were very good. Not just an everything cooked together flare. The side black bean only option was not impressive. The guacamole on the side was excellent and the pico was as well. Rice was A+ on presentation and very edible.
The corn tortillas were authentic and pliable, but could have used some flavoring like salt. The corn shell for the ceviche was bland also. Maybe that's authentic???
The cactus was an excellent side. Even the corn in it was excellent.
Also pictured was the kids quesadilla. This place can contend with the...
