My husband and our 2 children went to Luna’s in Baytown this evening for dinner... was the worse experience ever at a restaurant. To start the waitress Samantha came to the tablet looked very unkept.. hair everywhere , sloppy dressed, no personality, no customer service skills at all .. you would think working with the public like she does she would have come to work a little more presentable and maybe a shower. But hey not everyone feels the need too. She won’t write our drinks down instead ask us several times until she remembered the right drinks.. ok maybe she was practicing on a slow Wednesday night on bettering her skills of her job.. cool.. FINALLY brings our drinks and goes to walk off doesn’t say a word to us, um excuse me luv can we order Chile con queso.. she acted like how dare I. Someone else brought that out to us.. still don’t see her.. ok here she comes. Takes our order still not a smile I’m starting to think it’s broken all she is all frown... speed up to dinner comes table.. I open my taco to put fixings in and a long semi wavey hair is laid neatly down the taco.. so my first reaction pick it up and drop on ground.. I mean gross. My husband wouldn’t let it go.. went and found her with my plate to ask for another one.. she actually sighed in his face.. like he was bothering her,he came back to table a little ticked off..I was just ready to go.. now mind you she never said sorry, or silly cooks need to be more careful, something anything, but she does come back to us and asked if we still had the hair her manager wanted it.. I said I dropped it in the floor.. she wanted us to find it. I calmly told my husband you better not get down there and look for that hair omg.. she says well to adjust the meal off the receipt I have to show manager the hair. We never asked for an adjustment, never ask for a manager , never asked for anything free just for my dinner to be hairless.. by this point I had had enough. Grab my son went to pay our bill. My husband was gathering our other son and belongings. I ask one hostess to please check me out I had no ticket was explaining where we were sitting, here comes Samantha saying oh they want something free.. I lost my cool and probably acted in a way I shouldn’t have.. how dare her.. not only did we not want something free my husband had told her we would still pay for the food with the hair In it and the fresh dinner if they would fix my plate. The hostess was pushing Samantha in the other dining area , so I assume Samantha had intentions on fighting me.. the manager comes out and here he goes about adjusting our bill.. I told the hostess don’t you dare take a thing off my bill.. he was telling us we had to fill out a complaint card for him to be able to do anything to Samantha for her actions. Seriously.. you heard her .. you saw her.. your the manager.. handle it.. all in all I’ve never ever in my whole life dealt with anything like this before at a business, or interacted with an employee anywhere that was like Samantha. . Terrible food, Terrible service, terrible management.. if I could comment with zero stars I would have.. having to give them one star is almost not worth the review. Do not go to Luna’s in Baytown worse ever... if you do go .. I would recommend not to use ladies restroom either absolutely stomach...
Read moreMy wife and I have enjoyed eating at Luna's for over two decades! When we started dating, Luna's was still located in a strip center across from Target on Garth Road (circa mid 1990's). This is our go-to for Tex Mex in the Baytown area.
Positive observations:
I've found that this restaurant can quickly seat us even when crowded with a nearly packed parking lot. With three dining areas, they appear to always keep people moving. I honestly can't remember ever having to wait for a table. They operate with a very large staff. I have not noticed servers becoming overwhelmed with tables; we usually receive a consistently good level of attention. While the staff is large, I do see familiar faces for rather long periods of time, especially among the supervisors/floor managers. One of the more tenured servers goes out of her way to greet my wife and I, even when we are not at one of her tables. Their team gives us a valuable sense of community that makes our visits comfortable and friendly. They also appear to have good morale, enjoying their work and giving their best to their customers. For restaurants in this reasonable price range, I find Luna's has the best Tex Mex food in the Houston area. It is always prepared with consistent quality and I find it delicious. My favorites include the fajitas, the Vaquero (combo plate that includes fajitas), and lately the Luna's Sampler. Probably the best bang for your buck is the Tour of Mexico. This will comfortably feed four people (of average appetite) and is a great variety of their signature dishes. Luna's is especially fun and festive during the latter part of Friday evening. Karaoke is done in the rear dining room and a delightful (but LOUD) Mariachi band performs in the main dining room. This may occur on Saturdays as well, but lately we end up eating here during the early part of the week or on Sunday afternoon.
Opportunities for improvement:
I strive to be very impartial and fair in my reviews, especially if it will help a restaurant correct an issue, but I am at a loss here. I remember this restaurant had some negative quirks when they first moved into the current location many years ago, but the wrinkles have since been ironed out and the place is solid.
The bottom line is that this restaurant and its great staff are a valuable Baytown-area landmark and a great part of the community. All of our out-of-town family who have visited our home know about Luna's and are always eager to eat there each time they return. This restaurant also holds a special place in the hearts of my wife and I. It is "our...
Read moreIf I could have put zero stars i would have. My family and family friend went to eat here last night and I don't know where to begin. The first incident was our two year old son knocked over his lemonade on accident. I wiped it up starting with our utensil napkins. Once those ran out we finally were able to get our waitress to bring us more and what does she bring? A few drink napkins, so I cleaned it up to the best of my ability. Second my wife finished her drink and our waitress not once asked to refill it until finally a random bus lady sees it empty and offers to get her a refill. She was very sweet and the only good thing I have to say about this place. Now comes the worst part. Our son started choking on a chip and I mean seriously choking. My wife has him upside down patting his back trying to get it dislodged. Our waitress is off to the corner with another waitress talking about what's going on but keeping their distance from us. We have a sweet customer guiding us and helping us because we are young parents. After a minute or so he finally passes the chip and almost instantly starts throwing up. After he is done I start using the 1 drink napkin left to wipe it up. All while the waitresses are watching me. After I realize we will be receiving no help from any staff or management, I walk over to the counter and grab more napkins myself. At this point, as I'm finishing they have a mop bucket waiting to the side. No one has checked on us yet, and were calmimg our son down because he is terrified. We stayed for about 10 more minutes and finally had to ask the waitress for our check. Not once did anyone ask if our son was okay. They didn't start mopping anything until after we left. The only assistance of any type came from a complete stranger, which was one of their customers. We were furious and still are. 0 out of 5 stars. Never going back. Worst service and restaurant we have ever been...
