To tee up this story, I travel around the country and have been in hundreds of steak houses.
I recently went here because it was close to my hotel and I was in the mood for a filet mignon. I had never been to this small chain before and was eager to try it. I walked in on an off Tuesday night at dinner time, around 640pm.
The first problem was the parking. They offer 'free' (pressure) valet. Worse, they block off most of the spots close to the restaurant with cones and obstacles. This gave me a true low class vibe. I must admit I was surprised by this odd strategy. Strike 1.
Next, I was able to get a quick seat at the bar with the help of the hostess (thank you). I was then greeted by a bartender quickly. Before too long I had a great glass of relatively expensive Chianti in my hand. It was delicious worth the price ($16.25) - cannot remember the name but it was the only Chianti by the glass. I ordered the 8oz filet mignon (medium) with a side of baked potato, butter on the side. I was asked if I wanted bread (((please just bring it, don't ask))) and I said yes.
This is where things got weird. I hadn't even cut into my filet when the bartender had asked how my meal was. OK, no big deal, I told her I wasn't sure because I hadn't tried it . She also was astute enough to notice I hadn't gotten any bread (Strike 2). She asked if I wanted the bread after all - I declined.
The baked potato was perfect, as ordered, hot and fresh. The Filet? POOR. It was a charcoal briquette for a few millimeters on the outside. inedible. The inside was medium to medium-rare. They clearly whipped this filet out of a too-cold refrigerator, then cooked it in a too-hot oven. NO WAY anyone properly cooked or temp'd this piece of meat. (Strike 3)
The bartender again asked how my meal was. I told her the filet was just 'ok' and 'could be better'. I had no desire to stay any longer -usually, I'm ordering another glass of wine AND dessert 90% of the time (seriously).
As I was paying, the manager made a necessary (but feeble) attempt to comp some free dessert or add a few splashes of wine to my empty glass. I declined.
Note to restaurant: You can't charge $100/head and drop the ball ANYWHERE in the service and meal delivery process.
This visit is in the bottom 20% of my steakhouse visits (see above for experience) and I won't be back - even though I'm going to be visiting this area every week for the next 5 months. I am sorry to say, you really blew it Hyde Park :( ...
Read moreMy wife and I decided to go to Hyde Park at Beachwood for our anniversary. We'd been there before some time ago and were really looking forward to an opportunity to go back. This was it!
When we were brought to our table, we were pleasantly surprised by a sprinkling of rose petals on the table, and a card from Hyde Park congratulating us on our anniversary.
However, that was immediately trumped by the dirty seat that was offered to my wife to sit in. Mine had bread crumbs all over it as well. After requesting that our seats be cleaned and waiting for them to dry, we were finally able to sit down.
Our waitress, although friendly, seemed very distracted and, as a result, somewhat inattentive. I know that waiting tables can be a tough job. I've done it before - it's not easy by any stretch of the imagination. Whereas I did have compassion for her, this was our anniversary. So that took away from the occasion for us.
When we ordered our food, my wife and I both got steaks, a salad, and some sides. I had Surf and Turf with the Filet Mignon and the Lobster Tails, a Baked Potato, and Spinach with Mushrooms for my sides. My wife had the New York Strip, Whipped Potatoes, and Brussel Sprouts. It did seem to take a REALLY long time for it to come out.
When it did, the food was lack-luster. The presentation of the food left much to be desired. It looked as though they'd thrown my food on the plate just to get it out. My wife's Brussel Sprouts were both burnt and underdone. And my steak was not very well seasoned. It wasn't horrible, just lack-luster.
We sent the Brussel Sprouts back with no issue. Our waitress took it off of our bill right away. But the experience overall was disappointing.
We were really excited and looking forward to getting back to this restaurant. But this visit just didn't provide us with the level of service and quality meal that we were expecting. Especially in the light of the fact that we spent over $200 on that meal.
I'd say the final blow for me was when we got up to leave, and I found dust on the sleeve of my coat that I'd set on the bench beside me while I ate. (There was a LOT of dust, like it had not been cleaned in a long time!) It made me feel that the cleanliness this restaurant once had slipped pretty far from where it once was. Which further indicated to me that coming here was not the best choice.
There's a pretty good chance we won't be coming back to patronize this establishment again. That makes...

Very attentive, friendly, our server even was joking along with us, and the woman who brought our entree to the table even offered to take our food back since my boyfriend was in the restroom and not ready for his meal...obviously I said it was fine but the thought really counted.
Our food was the best around! The bread basket that came out was so warm and fresh and the oil over the butter gave it a great flavor. We decided to try the crab cake which was delicious with that hint if lemon zest, but we just wish we had slightly more sauce for it. We decided to dine before 6pm and had the early dinner menu with the petite filet mignon. Lobster bisque was what I chose for my starter and it was so creamy and they put the Lobster fresh into the bisque right in front of you. Probably the best Lobster bisque I have ever tried. Our main entree came out with great timing after our bisque and they cooked my medium steak and his rare steak to perfection. The steak was so melt in your mouth. The sauce paired with the twin filets was on point and I enjoyed the onion straws with my bites of steak. The best part....dessert. I'm a red velvet cake fan and i am SO glad we decided to split dessert because HELLO...look at the size of that thing 😂 our server came over and cut the cake for us so we had a good portion yet didn't ruin it to package it up for home, which it still couldn't fit in the box. We are big water fans and don't drink alcoholic beverages so for all of stated above, our meal was $112 which is a great price for what we both got. Again this is based on the early night dinner menu that's before 6pm. I would 100% give this place a try if you have not! I think it's even better than it was 10 even 5yrs ago. I love seeing my favorites still on the menu like the calamari which we didn't get this time, but the Thai Chili flavor is amazing on that appetizer. Plus I have never known the staff to be so friendly before. It was appreciated...
