Yikes. Ok, so when I first arrived at 2pm the doors were locked to the lobby and you had to be buzzed in by the front desk with a loud magnetic door locking sound like you would expect at maybe a pawn shop or something. Once inside the front desk has a tv on the wall with the live video of you standing at the desk with red bold letters which read "recording in progress" to obviously let everyone know your being watched.
The lady working the front desk began asking with a very monotone voice my name, what room I was visiting and name of the person I'm visiting while entering it into her computer without once looking me in the eye. I stopped her to say I'm here to check-in which she then began to do. While she was checking me in I asked why she was asking me all that info if I had been there to visit someone and she said "cuz I need to know who you are and where your going in the building" I also asked why the doors are locked at 2pm and was told " for the safety of guests and the buildings security". I asked did they have some problems recently or something to which she replied "not really"... Fun related fact here.. the hotel does not accept cash for anything, even the vending machine ONLY takes credit cards, something I havent seen before. The signs that hang around the hotel which notify guests of various hotel policies aren't in the form of " dear guest, please remember this or that, thank you for staying with us, signed your thankful staff" but are instead in the form of " ATTENTION, this is our policy, it is required, this is not an option . Not following these rules and we'll kick u out, signed management". the hallways are dark, there is no furniture or much of anything when u first walk in the hotel, the public areas aren't really dirty but also aren't really kept clean as you would expect a hotel in this area to be. The room is bare bones, the kitchen area is basically a hotplate, a microwave that barely fits a bowl in it , fridge and sink. All the appliances are outdated almost to the point of retro, but only almost. Alarm clock looks like a hand me down, same with the phone. My room was a single queen bed and I doubt it's a queen. Like a mini queen or something. Overall the hotel can be described as maybe a super 8 motel someone tried to dress up as a holiday inn or something. If you saw it you would understand what I mean by that. The place has clearly had security problems and isn't too concerned with guests feeling welcome and cared for which makes me think it's a result of the type of problems the guests they are attracting have caused but I'm not sure since I haven't really seen many other guests since I've been here to know.
NOW WITH ALL THAT BEING SAID:
The staff in the morning was very helpful and accomodating when I found out I would need to stay until about 5pm and wanted to pay for a second day since checkout was at 11. I didn't know until that point that they didn't accept any cash payments and didn't feel comfortable using my debit card. So the lady working let me keep the room until about noon while I went down the road to buy a prepaid visa card which they would accept as payment. I came back, paid for the second day and went on with my day. I thought it wouldn't be fair if I didn't mention this.
So for what it's worth, that's my review. I'm still shocked this place is the way it is being in a prime location in beachwood ohio but there must be a reason for it that I...
Read moreArrived after midnight and it took over 10 minutes for the front desk to let us in. While checking in we didn't feel welcome at all. Things only got worse from there. The hallways smelt bad, old cigarettes and cooking, the room was unmaintained and had an old smoky smell. The bed had multiple large stains, at that point we decided to leave and go somewhere else.
UPDATE: Since they decided to pull a fast one and attempt to steal from me, so I'm adding to this review....
We returned to the desk to inform the desk clerk that we would be leaving immediately and going to another hotel because the room was filthy, he proceeded to check us out on the computer and when we asked if anything needed to be signed he said no and that we would receive a refund in the next couple days.
After waiting a few days and realizing that my refund never came through I made several phone calls to Extended Stay America, once in the morning which I was told that the manager was not in and they would have to approve it and that they would be in later in the afternoon, I asked if they could have them call me and told me they would.
I never received a call so I called them back during the afternoon, a different person answered and they said that the manager was not in but that they are only around during the morning shift. When I started the explain that I was told otherwise during the morning they hung up, I called back, and was immediately hung up on, I called a third time and explained that if they were not there in the morning when I called I would come in personally.
My girlfriend called them during the morning, she was told that the manager would be there in the afternoon and to call back later.
Friday afternoon I went in and spoke with the front desk in person, she told me that the manager would be there the next morning and they would call me and to leave my number.
This became the pattern, and I never received a call at any point.
This led me down the path of resolving the issue with my credit card company over the course of about 2 months, I eventually got my money back, but not without them fighting it, they were well aware of what they were doing and I have to believe I am not the only one with this issue.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
I leave you with a photo of the mattress...
Read moreAgain I wish this would allow me to post pictures, Expedia didn’t allow me to either. I’m a traveler stayed at some sketchy places to save money so for me to actually review this place, means something! Walking in at 5pm ish the foyer was dirty. Guy at the desk was rude. Our room smelled cleaned, however the floor wasn’t swept or mopped, the night stand had ashes all over it. The lamps looked like they haven’t been wiped down in ages. Caked on dust. No blanket just a sheet with another sheet. I called for a blanket and was told I had to wait till laundry was done for the day to see if there was one. No extra pillows (2 flat ones on bed) hair and papers on floor still, no toilet paper in bathroom, when I called for a roll to be brought up, was told she wasn’t bringing it up I had to go down to get it. The plastic on the (like a bath fitter insert) bathtub was broken and peeling back. Drain wasn’t draining so I could shower, then the most disgusting thing ever the broken drain was clogged with life’s most disgusting clumps of hair I wanted to puke! Toilet and towels in bathroom were dirty! Looked refolded and put back. Breakfast the next morning went down at 9am to nothing out breakfast was over at 9:30- couple cereal bars left and few packets of oatmeal- NO COFFEE! When I asked if there was more coffee I got an eye roll and he said what time is it? He made the coffee I thanked him. And asked if we could have a late checkout, he said I need you guys out by noon cause I need that room cleaned for another reservation. That’s when I lost it, and said well talk to you cleaner about actually cleaning the room then! And told him everything above. The response was. You should have said something at check-in can’t do nothing about it now. I said well I’m looking out for the next ones coming in cause they may not be as understanding. We won’t stay at an...
