There are a number of reasons why my review is so so. The first time we went to Clawson's to check out their event space, we were treated wonderfully. We told our waiter that evening that we were thinking about having our wedding reception there. He went ABOVE and BEYOND. He brought us samples of their pimento cheese and their salad dressing that they offer for events. He took us up to the dining room they use for special events and really helped us see how special the space could be. I initially planned the reception with Valerie. She was AMAZING!! She quickly responded to all of my emails and answered all of my questions. We went to Clawson's a few more times to try out the menu and continue planning out how the dining room would look with all of my decorations. Valerie was SO accommodating. She had tons of great suggestions for the space. About a month before the wedding, Valerie told us that she was leaving to move back home and that a gentleman named Danny would be taking over. My poor ratings are for Danny. He was not as responsive and wasn't even working the day of our reception!! You are the event coordinator and you're off when you have an event scheduled?!?! That made ZERO sense to my mother and I. We were told that the dining room would be 100% set up the night before our reception. When we got there Saturday morning, the tables were not set!! The AC was not on. It was SO HOT in the room. Which is not good for a wedding cake which was being delivered that afternoon. WE turned the AC all the way down when we got there. We did not have any issue decorating the room. They let us right in. We were also VERY disappointed that we only had 2 servers for 55 people!! Everything moved SO SLOW. None of my guests were offered anything other than water to drink. We were initially told that my guests could have water or sweet tea. It was a disappointing experience for my wedding reception. My mom tried to speak with the manager on duty and was brushed off. My one compliment is for the food. Everything was delicious. I received a lot of compliments for the appetizers and entrees. I wish the service had been as wonderful as the food, but it was lousy. Not what you expect for a...
Read moreThis is the first Google review I have ever done on a restaurant and I do not leave bad reviews but here goes. It was recommended that we go to Clawsons by my father in law who lived in Beaufort forty years ago so we decided to give it a try. This was sadly a mistake as things have obviously changed. The restaurant decor is great and you can get a feel for the history but the food was not good. I asked if the crab cakes were a good idea to order from the waitress as recommendations are always helpful. I was told they were so two of us ( my daughter and I) ordered them, and my husband ordered Salmon. The crab cakes were ninety percent bredding with a little crab sprinkled in. There was some sort of Spivey orange sauce that made them impossible to eat.. The crab cakes were supposed to come with a cheese grits of which I even inquired but they came with potatos. Mind you, I researched the menu well in advance.. My only guess if they ran out of the side dish and choose to just serve the crab cakes with potatoes or it was the end of the night and they thought we wouldn't know the difference. Either way this was not what we ordered nor was it what is on their menu. The salmon which was the fish of the day was very good so I would strongly suggest you order the catch of the day and avoid the crab cakes or the crab dip. The crab dip had the consistency of cream and no crab. Again, maybe crabs aren't something that's good locally but I asked specifically for a recommendation and being from the Northast maybe this just is something I should already know. The waitress was polite but did not even bother to come back to the table as it was towards the end of the night at 8 pm and said she had an emergency and left someone else to attend to our check. My guess is she knew the food was not good. All in all, I would not recommend this establishment. and most certainly never order the crab cakes. Perhaps becuase it was 8 o'clock and the restaurant closed at 8:30 they were in a rush to leave but the food should be consistent no matter what time it is as. This is just my experience. My daughter and I did not eat our meals and went...
Read moreMy Hubby and I arrived at this restaurant around 6:30pm this evening. We sat on the back patio as our pups were with us. The waitress came out and greeted us and asked for our drink order. My husband and I only drink water, but the water in the area has a sulfur taste, so we get lemon and lime to cover it. We relayed to her our wishes for lots of lemon and lime, she brought one lemon wedge each. We let her know we wanted to start with the French Onion Soup, and she asked for our entree orders. My husband and I try not to order the same thing at new restaurants so we can each taste different dishes. When I asked him if he had decided what he wanted, the waitress snapped "I am just going to put your soup order in and come back. I have 4 other tables!" She returned about 15 minutes later to take our order and informed us our soup would be ready soon. Our soup was delivered shortly thereafter, and we waited another 25 mins for our entrees. We surmised that she had not put our order in right away. While waiting, we began discussing the events and decided to have our order boxed to go. My husband informed our waitress and asked for the bill. She brought the bill out promptly (imagine that!) and we paid cash. Keep in mind we had been leaving 25% or better for tips all week, but on a $40 bill left this time $2. When the food arrived, it was apparent the boxes had been overturned as the food was completely disheveled. I would love to give a 1 star, but the food, despite her best efforts, tasted AMAZING! I ordered the Crab Cakes and my Husband had the Smoked Barbecue Chicken. They were well seasoned, perfectly cooked, and delicious! Had we received better service, this place would have gotten a MUCH better rating. I would consider a serious reprimand or even replacing this rude girl who is obviously overwhelmed...
