This was the very worst experience I have ever had at any restaurant!! Chans has always been my very favorite restaurant. Since we have moved and lived in central Oregon 20 plus years ago.we have been going to chans originally when I moved to Redmond 15 plus years ago ! Loved there food and service.
Then I moved bend and was very excited to find a chans on 3rd Ave.
So I started going there . I did not expect every to be the same At 1st they were kinda rude. Took our order if dinning in .and did not see anyone again until food came . And only got part of order And the did not see them until they had the rest and by that time we were done.
We mentioned it to them and they were rude .and asked if we wanted to go then. I said we ordered our food for our family to eat together. And they gave use togo boxes I was very upset talked to I guess the manager .he said it would not happen again. And made sure we had Togo boxes So I did not dine in again for months.
Only did delivery and pick up instead .
So tonight I walked in to try again.
They were not busy what so ever!!!! I walked in no one was at the counter or in the bar right next to it. So I grabbed a Togo menu sat down still no one So I seen a couple in the bar so went there and sat And waited for awhile still no one. So went back to the front and still no one. Then Finley a older lady came. Said in a rude voice this is to go right ?! I said ok . I asked her how much house rice was.she sighed and said something under her breath and I said it's ok I just want bbq pork fried rice please.she looked a little upset and sighed again and said bbq fried rice right? I said yes please.. She said in a rude voice. So you don't want the house fried rice then? I said no thank you . Just the bbq pork fried rice please .. So again she ask me you want just bbq pork fried rice right?! I said yes please that's right.. And she said no house fried rice. I said no thank you.. So she said in a really short rude voice. Are paying with cash.or card?!
I said I would like to pay with my card please and handed it to her. She grabbed it and ran it . And said rude .you don't have enough on your card.so I said I'm sorry I have cash . The she was upset and said as she showed me the screen 10 something.
I'm going to not charge you .and the did not see what she did. And she said again I didn't charge you. But did not show me screen. So I asked for a receipt.but she walked away and said nothing. I did not bother or ask her again.but when she finely came back with my Togo order I had a text message from my bank . And it was for the same amount she told me she was not charging me . She LIED ABOUT CHARGING ME. I GAVE HER CASH TO PAY FOR MY ORDER IN FULL. SHE PRETTY MUCH DOUBLE CHARGED ME. ITS CALLED THEFT IN MOST PLACES.
IM VERY UPSET WITH THE SERVICE HOW I WAS TREATED THERE . AND DOUBLE CHARGED EVEN AFTER SHE SAID MY DEBIT CARD WAS NOT BEING CHARGED. AND WAS GIVEN CASH FOR MY ORDER.
BUT I DID GET THE Receipt AT THE END..
AND TO TOP IT OFF AFTER ALL THAT . THE ORDER WAS COMPLETELY WRONG!! I HAVE CANCER SO EVERY ONCE IN AWHILE I FEEL WELL ENOUGH MEDICALLY TO GET OUT FOR A WALK. SO MY WEEKLY WALK WAS WASTED ON CHANS RESTAURANT.

Read more1st visit...HAO waited our table. Fabulous service! Best we’ve had in a very long time! So enjoyed his personality and outstanding service. The food was the best Chinese food we’ve had in over two years of searching throughout Oregon and California. And best news is they do not use MSG!
HOWEVER...now that we have been here 3 times, I would say the management are “stiff”, COLD, and very curt! They are NOT the least bit warm or friendly! They seem downright bitter and angry! Once I asked where the restrooms were and got an abrupt finger pointing down the hall! Were it not for the wait staff we’ve had we would NEVER return. I don’t know how they can work in such a cold, hostile environment!! Management is apparently all about $$$ and do not treat their employees well at all!! We are looking for another Chinese restaurant that takes care if their patrons AND employees!! it’s more about a pleasant ATMOSPHERE!!
**Now we’ve been here multiple times, each time we are treated with the same cold, indifferent rudeness from staff who are not usually servers. It ruins the tone for an enjoyable meal! Read moreFood is fine, portions are huge. I balked a bit at the price at first, but you do get at least two meals (or four, if you're my Canadian friend). Some of the meals don't seem to have the components mixed until the very end, so they taste better as leftovers.
I admit I do really like the eggflower soup, and their hot tea is pleasant. Note that they do seem to use dark meat chicken, which is often a Chinese preference (and mine), but I thought it worth mentioning since I see some reviews complaining about it.
They do go very light on the vegetables, which is a shame for me, but if you're the sort who is there for the meat, they've got you covered.
The waitstaff have been very good to us and have already started to memorise our orders despite only visiting a handful of times. Occasionally the hostess can be a bit curt yet she's never been actually rude to us. Food comes out very quickly.
My only real feedback would be: please keep an eye on the restrooms cooking a dish with all the ingredients together helps the flavours meld, and would improve most of the meals I've tried please check in for drink refills more often. I'm diabetic and absolutely destroy water, which makes me a bit of an edge case, but it would be nice.
