Monkless was mediocre. We were seated right away and our drink ordered were taken quickly. When asked for a couple minutes to look at the menu for food we had to wait about 10 minutes or so for our server to come back to order food, time waiting for food was about normal for a restaurant. When we did get our food it was just ok. On one chicken bacon baguette sandwich the chicken was dry and the sandwich was tall and hard to eat, the frites were the best part of the food with fry sauce and ranch. Also ordered the Steak Frite which says 8 oz steak was cooked correctly to what we asked but they pre cut steak and it looked more like 6 oz (we eat a lot of steak and are very knowledgeable). And the service was honestly horrible, our server was very inattentive, her pants looked dirty. Where we were sitting was right next to the entrance to the back near the kitchen and our server kept going in the back and disappeared for awhile. When we were ready for the check and clearly visible we were done, we didn't see our server and waited for about 20 minutes and then our server appeared but was busy walking around and doing other things than checking on us. I believe in honest reviews and my recommendation for Monkless is ✨️6/10✨️ wasn't really impressed and will probably not go back.

Food was very bland. On all dishes. We got the Poutine. At $20 it was expensive and I thought there would be more meat on top like I have seen. Not enough flavor or gravy. The beef bourguignon red wine stew was just your basic boring pot roast.. but not soup liquid! Like they cooked it all down. But it still lacked flavor, richness and complexity like I have had before. $23 Porch small for price and not liquid stew portion. Pork Schnitzel Plate- The pork Schnitzel itself was large and crispy. Decent flavor. The noodles were lackluster and my husband was disappointed. It had an overwhelming flavor of mustard also vs being creamy and subtle. The other side was just... plain no seasoning at all slaw/cabbage. No Mayo, no seasoning of any type. Confusing.. I asked about the cabbage and was told I could get salt and pepper for it. I asked about a sauce or dressing or anything. She got me a cup of balsamic vinegar when just a tiny dollop would have been enough. Didn't use most of the balsamic vinegar. Wasn't told there would be a fee to fix their poor tasting salad. Charged .50 Nothing "bad" but nothing good either. Overall we were not impressed. Would not return.

We have made a point numerous times to visit this place whenever we have spent time in Benz. It was always either too busy or closed. Today our luck changed! We got seating right away inside. It was a bit on the cold side, 39 +/- degrees. And the sun was shining - how much better could it get, not much! The menu has some vegan friendly options which is always much appreciated. The food menu is not extensive but what they have they do very well! The bier selection was great and the non-alcoholic options included kombucha and a house made ginger ale that was snappy good! We had the frites and hummus platter. Neither disappointed us. The frites were hot and deliciously fried in bier batter - try it you will love it 🥰🙌. The three speciality sauces were fantastically spicy to add to the flavor profile. The hummus had crispy capers with a light layer of olive oil on it. It came in what seemed like a small jar and surprisingly made it through the entire tray! The fresh veggies were plentiful and fresh. During the winter that is almost unheard of for restaurants. You won’t be disappointed with this stop! Cheers 🍻

This is probably one of our favorite spots during the summertime. The view is great sitting outside enjoying a beer this particular time me and my wife went on a Saturday evening. We ordered our beer, which was great. The waiter came back and asked her. Are we ready to order? We said sure I would like the burger and could you make that with extra raw onions please I don’t want them grilled, his response was we don’t have onions. We only have grilled onions and I said OK. Well I’ll take my burger without the grilled onions and my wife ordered sausage platter plate so we got her food. They were grilled onions on my burger. I didn’t say anything because I really don’t like sending food back because I have a trust issue so I took the onions off of the burger proceeded to take one bite can’t stand it. I didn’t eat my burger later on the waiter came back and he seen that I didn’t eat it. He didn’t say anything he didn’t ask me was their problem we paid for our meal and we left, so out of curiosity, I decided to stop by there A couple days later went in sit down got me a beer ordered the same identical thing but I asked her if I could have extra onions extra onions I don’t want them grilled she said sure, sir got my burger and lo and behold raw onions i’d have to give you a one star on your service all I could think is if you have onions, you just don’t grill all of your onions. Some customers prefer regular raw onions so can someone help me understand this?

Manager did respond he suggested that I should’ve asked for a manager to resolve the situation. Unfortunately, when it comes to complaining, I have some trust issues with my food being returned. The views are great there. The atmosphere is great. I think me and my wife will give you guys another chance. Thank you again for responding to...

This is a review of our experience. Would give it a three-star but, that wouldn’t be fair due to adjusting to the recent lifting of restrictions: “Beautiful space with glorious Deschutes river views from the patio. We all thought it would be a great date night venue for us in the future. Took a long time for service which, in our case was fine but, wouldn’t recommend for a quick bite. Our food arrived as huge, food truck/diner-sized portions and although visually appealing, alas inedible due to over frying and breading issues. We waited for any sight of a floor employee to raise this concern, but too much time passed before their check-back to even bother giving immediate feedback. It was a casual lunch so we continued our get together. Even after paying our bill our table had still yet to be cleared of our unfinished food plates and empty glasses for our party of seven’s table. Considering local post-restriction dining timing and current staffing shortage, overall they were probably doing the best they could. There were mixed reviews of the craft beer and home-brewed hibiscus ginger beer. (From a few still-full glasses I’m guessing they weren’t enjoyed. Could be personal taste?) We visited for lunch. Will try again for dinner. Tip: the space has high, uninsulated ceilings and between that, the schnitzel pounding in their open kitchen and the eccentric piped-in music it’s not a good spot for conversation. Maybe get a...

Monkless Restaurant is a hidden gem that truly stands out in the culinary scene. Nestled in a cozy corner, this establishment offers a warm, inviting atmosphere that instantly makes you feel at home. The rustic decor combined with friendly staff sets the perfect tone for an enjoyable dining experience.

One of the standout dishes on the menu is undoubtedly the schnitzel. Cooked to perfection, the schnitzel features tender, juicy meat encased in a golden, crispy breading that strikes the perfect balance between crunch and flavor. The seasoning is spot on, allowing the natural flavors of the meat to shine through. Each bite is a delightful combination of textures, complemented by a side of flavorful potatoes and a refreshing salad.

The attention to detail at Monkless extends beyond just the food. The service is impeccable, with staff members who are knowledgeable about the menu and eager to make recommendations. They genuinely care about your dining experience, ensuring you feel valued throughout your visit.

Whether you're a local or just passing through, Monkless is a must-visit destination for food lovers. The schnitzel alone is worth the trip, but the overall ambiance and service elevate it to something truly special. Don’t miss the opportunity to indulge in this delightful dish and explore the rest of their thoughtfully crafted menu. You’ll leave with a full belly and a smile,...
