I was a regular of this place, up until last night, Saturday Feb 1. Had some out of town guests visiting and was excited to take them. Two bartenders were on shift when we arrived around 6:30. The female bartender could not have been more pleasant and helpful! The male bartender however was another story... he was aggressive and antagonistic towards our guests upon their arrival. The deal breaker came later however, when we went up for a second round, due to our food taking overly long. I ordered a beer, but my guest naively asked for a taste/sample. He had done the same upon ordering his first beverage, which is not surprising being from out of the area and unfamiliar with our local flavors. The bartender somewhat blew up at the request, saying "You're done. I just took an OLCC server exam and you've had your three samples." Now obviously, establishments can refuse service for really any reason, however that's not even an OLCC rule. He's apparently conflating it with the three ounce sample size limit. Source: OAR 845-006-0450, plus I too have a server permit. Secondly, couldn't you just say "I'm sorry, we limit the number of samples we can give out", rather than angrily admonishing someone and shouting that they're done, publicly humiliating them and apparently looking for a fight? There's just absolutely no reason for that approach. I'll miss Abe Capana's, but I'll never be back. Life is too short and we have way too many other/better options where you don't have your party leave feeling like garbage on what should have been a festive, fun...
Read moreThis is and probably always will be my favorite taproom in Bend. The food trucks are good (the Chicken & Waffles truck and the pizza truck shine, the drink selection is great, and the atmosphere is just stellar. Cozy, warm (in all ways imaginable), and worth fighting for a seat when busy (which is usually later in the evening and weekends).
If you don't want beer, they have cider, seltzer, non-alcoholic drinks, and batch/draft cocktails available as well as a rather fleshed out whisky selection and other hard alcohol options.
It is dog-friendly outside only, which is a bummer, but understandable. There are firepits outside for the cold days and cool evenings and umbrellas for the hot days.
It can get noisy inside, but it's the fun sort of noisy unless there's a dude-bro or woo-girl convention in town. Then it's just as obnoxious as you'd expect. We've never left early due to the atmosphere, though, so even when it's nutty, it's not bad.
WIFI is good for working if you want to spend the afternoon part of your work day hanging out here.
Tuesdays are locals days, $1 off per pint...not sure if the other drinks get discounted. Not that a buck is a huge amount, but it does make you FEEL like you're saving money, so may as well drink more.
2025 now,...
Read moreThis place was such an amazing space to host our work Christmas party! We rented out the loft area upstairs that host about 25 of us comfortably. Alison was such a great event coordinator, and she helped answer all of my questions throughout the booking process. She was very kind and easy to communicate with. Bob (the owner) was very delightful to work with and he made the set up process very easy as far as allowing us to decorate, open up drink & food tabs for our guests and was always checking in on us. Kyle & Jeff (the bartenders) did such an incredible job keepings us updated with our open tab and tending to our party. They both were so friendly and provided us with excellent service. Lastly, Nate & Brett (@ the food carts) were very easy to work with and have such amazing food (Abe Capanna's specifically). Their deep dish pizzas are the best I've ever had and I would recommend their food cart to anyone looking for authentic deep dish pizza!! All in all, we had an incredible experience here and I would highly recommend this rustic cabinet taphouse gem to anyone looking for an amazing experience!!!! HUGE thank you to everyone who made our work Christmas party...
