If you have stayed at a Hilton Garden Inn, you sorta’ know what to expect. There is a design aesthetic that leans heavily on the “comfortable and manufactured” elegance approach. Nice lobbies. Breakfast areas that don’t feel like they are shoved into an old conference room. Rooms with inoffensive art and the necessary bells and whistles. This place had those things. It also had some great (and one rather odd) additions that recommend it.
First thing first, if you are from out of town and attending a concert at Hayden Homes Amphitheater, STAY HERE. You walk out the front door, down a path, across a bridge and you are at the venue. Amazing. Yes, you are paying for that privilege. But who cares? That walk also includes a partial jaunt through the Old Mill District. Basically, it is a glorified strip mall filled with chains, upscale eateries and bars that might appeal to those who pine for a bit of the Bay Area in Bend (think Santana Row in San Jose and Eataly in far too many other places). Personally, my group decided to go a bit more local-ish and visit the McMenamins twice on that visit. Yeah, it is a chain too. But it is a regional one (like Elmer’s, with less old people and more hippy whimsy).
Second, the staff and the overall hotel are great. You can tell they take care of the place. Rooms are comfy. It is, again, a Hilton Garden Inn.
But, third, there are some things I think they should consider. The hotel elevator is very, very, very slow . . . and hot! On my visit it was a fairly nice day out. But the elevator was like a heat-sink. I can count three times when I was on that slow ride to the third floor and other guests commented on it. There is also the issue of the ‘other’ room. Just off the main lobby, and to the left, there is a patio area and also where they store the bikes for guests to ride/rent. When you exit that door, and if you look directly to your right, there is another room with a locked door. In it? I have no clue. But it is a very, very odd room. And, from the inside there is no entrance that you can see in the main lobby all the way to the elevators. I am sure it will eventually be used for something other than abandoned furniture and odd metal chains hooked to the walls. In the meantime, perhaps some blackout curtains?
All in all, another great stay at another HGI. Location was the best. Prices were okay. The hotel was well looked after. I would stay here again. Thanks for the...
Read moreI stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn in Bend for work this past week. The reservation was booked by our executive team using a company card as usual. Upon checking, I was told the card on file for the reservation couldn’t be used because the name on the card didn’t match the reservation (we’ve been using Hilton for YEARS without prior issue). So I paid out of pocket, no biggie. Breakfast isn’t included with the reservation which is a little crazy given the price tag. I tried to call down to room service one morning, but got a busy signal for 30 minutes straight. I went down to the restaurant and had to wait 10 minutes to be acknowledged. The number listed there for room service isn’t the same one listed on the phone in the room, so I have no way to confirm what the disconnect was. $10 for a breakfast buffet of yogurt, juice, and bread. The icing on the cake was check out. I informed the man at the front desk that I needed a paper receipt for my reimbursement since they wouldn’t charge our company card as normal. I had coffee in one hand, a water bottle in the other, in addition to my luggage and my purse, as well as my room card in between my ring and pink fingers. I tried to hand the card to the man at the desk and he said I only need your room number. I provided it to him and again extended the room card. He said “have a great day”. I reminded him I needed a paper receipt and he said “we will email it to you so you can print it out”. I informed him I needed it because the email on the reservation wasn’t mine. He said “ask them for it then” and turned to his side. I put the room card on the counter and he said “there’s literally a basket right in front of you” and picked the card up and threw it into the basket then said “you already had coffee, I’ve been watching you” and laughed. I could not leave quickly enough. I would recommend the Hilton inn and suites across the river, the staff is much more professional and you get a free hot breakfast with your stay. The resultant here has about 6 options for breakfast and dinner, respectively. It never has customers...
Read moreWe stayed at this Hilton during the Holiday Day Weekend and it was not a very good one. I’d never stay at a Hilton again. The only plus is the location, but it doesn’t out weight this worst experience.
First the clerk front desk was not at the front desk when we arrived. The front desk doesn’t look like a typical check in front desk, so we didn’t know where the front desk was. Circling a couple of times. When then have to stand there for about a minute confused hoping it was the right place to check in. Clerk finally came out.
We finally got checked in. One of the keys didn’t work so hand to go down stairs to wait for the missing clerk to show up again to reprogram it.
After settling in. We noticed it was missing the standard shampoo and conditioner. Like the house keeping staff didn’t stock it or it was a used room. Wouldn’t be surprised. The room seem to have underwent some abused conditions.
It was around 11pm. Had to call the front desk 3 times before I can get someone from front desk to bring the missing standard amenities.
After showering we found a bug crawling around in the bathroom floor. First time ever seeing a bug at a hotel. Never seen one at any of our other stays at hotel or motels. Gets me questioning the condition of the beds.
Trying to sleep, the walls are paper thin. We could hear opening and closing doors and shaking walls all night from people on the entire floor coming back from their night out.
Worst the mini refrigerator loudly hummed as compressor kicked on in the middle of the night around 2am.
Even worst, check out is at noon. The Maid comes knocking at 11am to ask when are we checking out. Didn’t understand the rush to get us out. It was slow day. This was also a first.
I was getting ready to tell them about my stay but they never asked “How was your stay?” Nor did they care.
Learn from my mistake. If you are looking to book a hotel pick another one, there are plenty of options that is better than this one. They all are close to the attractions and walking distance in...
