I was hired to DJ for Final Score and a good relationship went sour based on poor communication. However, there were subtle tones in the communication that concerns me about the bar. There is no need to mention names but the current ownership and marketer are solely responsible for how this business is run.
When you ask a DJ to promote your own bar and expect the DJ to bring a following there is a bit of a problem. Especially if you do not provide the DJ with access to control or market however they see fit (That was never an agreement that was made by the way). I offered suggestions on how to build a following and I was met with resistance. When I suggested that the bar advertise to the locals that live in the area (which primarily consists of Latinos and Blacks) I was told that "we don't want those demographics in in our bar". Perhaps maybe the demographics they were referring to was a higher end customer regardless of race but when you want to exclude the locals of those demographics its hard to think otherwise.
Another indication of bad management was the explicit direction to not play RAP music and only play top 40. (Rap music is included in top 40!) That's not the point. The point is that why is RAP music not allowed to be played by the DJ when it is clearly played by the patrons on the installed music digital jukebox?
I was specifically told by management that beginning 12-1-2018 the DJ would have to bring at least 10 guests and if they do not bring 10 guests it would affect how the DJ would be paid. On the night of 11/24 I was asked to end my session early because I did not bring any people with me... (Mind you I brought 3 guests that night anyways). The night was ended prematurely based on the fact that I didn't bring 10 people which was clearly a direction that was supposed to be enforced on 12/1/18.
If you choose to work for this bar, make sure you are clear as to what management wants. They want to operate like a night club but they are just a bar. I am disappointed that I never felt comfortable with what the direction was or what was required of me. It was never about the money as I am a very well paid DJ and I have my own clients. I happened to enjoy Djing and providing entertainment for those who enjoy good music. I always manage to play music for EVERYONE! I make sure everyone enjoys everything I play and when you tell a DJ that they can't play a specific genre of music you limit their creativity.
You will have to go to this bar and decide for yourself what you think of it. I personally cannot recommend it. This has nothing to do with the staff or the patrons that attend it but rather with the management who absolutely have no idea what...
Read moreUnfortunately, no stars is not an option. Service (if you want to call it that) has gone down hill and the place is now a dirty roach motel, at best . I felt like I stepped into a third world country that was stuck by a tornado of failure. That toilet sludge they call "Red Bull" isn't fooling anyone. My taste buds are still offended. I was told they buy the "Bazooka" because it's cheaper. Someone needs to blast that garbage back into non-existence. The last two times I made the mistake of giving this failed business another try, the bartnders boyfriend was throwing a temper tantrum. He was having a spastic hissy fit, yelling at people to get out between 1:30 a.m and 1:45 a.m... BOTH TIMES. He must have dropped his pacifier in the dirty mop water they pass off as Long Island Iced Teas. Drink prices vary by bartender. I will justify the one star I had to give by the fact that I've been asked to name my own price a few times since they were stumped. Final score could have given the Titanic pointers on sinking... I've never been that desperate for a drink. I give it a Final...
Read moreI wouldn't recommend the place. My husband DJ there for a few weeks as a favor to a friend. He had to bring his own equipment for a very very small pay. We typically do private and community gigs in Philly. What disappoint us is the interaction with management. They want us to promote their bar, were told they don't want a certain demographics there, which was the locals who were mostly latinos and some black, were asked to bring a guest list of 10 names (it's a local bar not a club mind you) and were told effective 12/1/18 or it will affect the pay. So on 11/24/18 we were asked not to play rap, asked to wrap up at midnight because "no one came" (when we had 2 friends came and drank all night). There were just many things to make sure that we would just leave. We felt very discriminated. If you want your bar to thrive then treat everyone with the same respect and don't be shady. I'm very disappointed and insulted and will definitely let everyone I know about it. We don't need the money we work full time jobs and do this...
