I won’t write a negative review without giving a restaurant a chance to make it right. When I did so, at 14 Global, I was treated rudely. The dishes I got were terrible.
I sat at the bar and ordered a Manhattan, which was very good, and why they get one star.
They were out of ahi tuna and suggested the Togarashi fish Tataki as a substitute. I did find a bite or two that was edible but the fish was so rubbery, I couldn’t cut it with a knife, let alone chew it. When I moved the plate away, the bartender asked if I was finished and I said yes. She said, “Oh, I guess that just wasn’t for you.”
Then I ordered the flash-fried cauliflower. It couldn’t have been flash-fried because it was mushy and saturated with oil. I sent that back, too. No one asked me why.
I’m not good at complaining, and they were busy. Even though it was obvious I did not like the food, they did not offer to remove anything from the bill, so I paid and left. I had one Manhattan and no food, and it cost me $58.
The next day, I called and spoke with the manager. She was rude and condescending. She kept saying that the fish was their best seller and she was taking it to a competition – clearly implying that I just have no taste. She was as defensive of the cauliflower. She even said she ate the fish off my plate when I returned it and it was delicious. EWWW. She ate from a plate a customer returned!
I told her I thought that servers should inquire more when a patron returns not one, but two dishes. Once again, she made it clear that their food is wonderful and she couldn’t understand why I didn’t like it. Again, very...
Read moreThis is one of our favorite restaurants in Bethany! It's a hidden gem, well not so hidden, but definitely a gem & I am always surprised how many people don't know about it. We have been going there since the week it opened. Perhaps we found it accidentally & have been going & recommending it to people ever since. They have tapas plates for sharing, which we like the best but also full sized entrees. Some of our favorites are the Goat Cheese Balls & the Bacon Wrapped Chicken Stuffed Jalapenos. Really everything is good! Their handcrafted specialty cocktails are some of the best we have ever had!! The place is not very big inside & can be loud when it's full, but they also have a charming outside area with some tables & that's what we prefer when it's crowded. During the height of summer we often get takeout & it's always been spot on! Hot & ready on time. The pics are from 2 different visits, one is takeout with Elk Sliders & handcut fries, Fish Tacos & the Stuffed Jalapenos. We also had the Goat Cheese Balls, but they were gone before the picture was taken! The Champagne was ours, not purchased there. The other pictures are from a visit eating outside there. Goat Cheese Balls, Lamb 'Lollipops', Stuffed Jalapenos, Mahi Tacos & cocktails, Lavendula & the green one is The Garden of Eden. My current fav! Yes, it's pricey, but so is every nice restaurant here at the beach, so if you have to pay beach prices you might as well have excellent food &...
Read moreTo set a perspective, my family and I have eaten here many times over the past several years. However when we ate there last week, I experienced something unique and disturbing. I ordered a scotch on the rocks (X2) and for each drink, I was charged an ICE SURCHARGE!!! They charged me EXTRA for the ice which is part of 'scotch on the rocks'. This was absolutely ABSURD!!! When I questioned it, Denis the manager said it's their policy. He took $1 off my bill which was NOT THE POINT. It's ABUSIVE to charge for ice in a drink which is supposed to be served with ice......maybe next time they'll charge me a glass surcharge, or maybe a spoon surcharge. So, despite having a great meal, this petty gouging of customers is annoying and insulting. If you need to cover your increasing costs, raise the price of your drinks, don't nickel and dime customers and annoy by giving them a bill with bogus charges. The exchange at the end of the meal after receiving these abusive and bogus charges ruined what had previously been a lovely evening.
As to the owner's explanation below, thanks for the information, but the bill said it was an ICE surcharge and you manager Denis, when asked about the $1 per drink, not $2 charge simply said it was policy. A more informed explanation would have...
