We take brunch very seriously in our family, so when I say One Thirty One was the best brunch I've ever had, please know I do not take this proclamation lightly. My husband and I took a long weekend in Biloxi at the Beau Rivage, and found this magical place just a very short and scenic walk from the resort. We arrived just after opening time at 10am, and were greeted like family by Michael the bartender and our server Nikki. The service was beyond exceptional without being overbearing. And then comes the food & drinks.
First stop: mimosa flights which come with your choice of fresh squeezed juices at a very reasonable price. We opted to try all the options which includes orange, pineapple, strawberry, peach, cranberry, and blueberry lemon. It's hard to pick a favorite, but the blueberry lemon was a pleasant surprise.
For entrees, we chose the bananas foster pain perdu (french toast) and fried chicken huevos rancheros, and WOW were we happy with our decisions! The fried chicken was delightfully seasoned and oh so crisp and juicy, complemented wonderfully by fresh seared veggies and perfectly cooked eggs. The bananas foster pain perdu had the thickest, fluffiest bread mounded with sweet caramelized goodness. And, as if we weren't already thrilled with everything, the bartender insisted we try his special 'Mother's Milk' recipe on the house, which consisted of cofee swirled with godiva liqueur, butterscotch schnapps and Bailey's. We then got to meet the owner Ryan, who was insistent we try his famed bacon Gouda fried oysters even though neither of us are fans of this particular shellfish. I had to politely decline, but my husband took one and has now found an oyster preparation he actually likes as an added bonus.
Our brunch experience at 131 was one for the ages, and I can honestly say I'll never forget it. For anyone visiting the Beau Rivage, Hard Rock Casino, or other area casinos, please do yourself a favor and take the short walk to see some of the local Biloxi culture and support this fine establishment! I have no doubt their lunch and dinner options are as great as their brunch selection. We applaud the fine folks at One Thirty One and can't wait to visit again so we can explore more...
Read moreWow. I have not had such a middling experience at a restaurant that was supposed to be nice in some time. The fact that it was completely empty when my impromptu group of eight walked in at 6:30 on a Wednesday should have been a clue. However, we were hungry, the reviews looked okay, and the decor inside seemed good.
They were quite clearly short-staffed tonight, so perhaps on another night the experience would be different. The cocktails were decent and decently-priced, although the young lady bartender clearly didn't know much about balanced drinks, as everyone who got a cocktail described it as 'too sweet'; from a custom Old Fashioned to a Lemon Drop to a French 75. Disappointing all around.
Ordering was a bit of a mess, after everyone had ordered she came back to let us know they were out of oysters completely. Given the place was empty when we arrived and remained so except for another party of 10, you'd think that she would have said something as person after person ordered the non-existent oyster plate. C'est la vie, I guess.
I ended up with the Seafood Alfredo. It didn't seem worth the pricetag, came with no toast and insufficient pasta to sop up the sauce. It was not bad, but it wasn't anything I'd write home about, either. A male colleague who also ordered the same thing had too much pasta and not enough sauce. A pair of colleagues had ordered the pork chops on the bartender's recommendation (she was also, I guess, our wait staff?). The two thick chops came out together (after a 40 minute wait!) and one was cooked well, the other had been butterflied and was too charred and dry to eat. The shredded Brussels sprouts slaw was inedible.
Overall a very disappointing experience, although some portion of the problem was that there was only one person in the kitchen and it seemed only the one bartender/waitress, so maybe the night was just spectacularly off for this establishment.
Finally, when she came back to ring us out, she didn't tell me the amount and failed to let me see the transaction, and also did not offer me a receipt. I have to go check the card statement and see how much the disappointment cost me, which is annoying.

Read moreMy husband and I drove over from Mobile, AL based solely on all the 5 star reviews this place had. I can not tell you how incredibly disappointed we were. Either they were just completely off their game or those reviews are false. The place is lacking a hostess and hostess stand. We were yelled at from the bar if we had a reservation, which we did. They advised we could sit where ever we wanted. Now our first give away should of been that it was Friday at 7:30pm and there were maybe only 5 other tables in the whole restaurant with guests. The menus were dirty pieces of card stock. We didn’t receive our drinks till after the appetizer came which was their duck poppers. These things tasted like they had been pre made and cooked earlier in the day and were barely reheated. The waitress advised that their specialty soup was so good that it sold out already… it was 7:30pm. My husband is a steak man and the only thing on the menu he was even willing to try was the beef culotte and guess what, they were out of that as well so they substituted it with venison. I had the fish pasta that the waitress raved about. Let me tell, that was probably one of the most vile dishes I have ever had at a restaurant. The pasta was literally COLD underneath the fish. The fish had a weird smell and did not flake apart as cooked white fish should. Needless to say, we cut our loses and did not have desert. The drinks were ordered were not good, my husband even told the waitress that the first drink he ordered was horrible. We love good food -and we have no problem paying for good food or traveling to a good restaurant because Mobile is lacking when it comes to fine dining. This restaurant was absolutely awful and I am completely befuddled on how it has received so many 5 star ratings. MAYBE they were off their game but based on the lack of patronage there with majority of the tables being empty, I’m pretty sure those 5 star reviews were fictitious. The only positive was the pleasant waitress. Don’t...
