Wonderful. Love the aura of this restaurant. The twinkling lights everywhere add to the festive feel. No Christmas tree here, though, but still has a holiday spirit. It's a small restaurant with tight seating upon first glance when walking in; however, it's not at all. Our booth was smack in the middle next to the bar but not cramped. Looking around, each table was perfectly placed to create a private "space" to enhance one's dining experience.
The dishes they serve is truly a food connoisseur's delight. Which is where I get myself in trouble because, of course, I'm just the person who orders many items "Just to See."
First, the appetizers, Buffalo Cauliflower and The Master's Pimiento. Both were spicy but most definitely the best dishes of the meal. Please try the cauliflower. It's sooo delicious.
Next to the sides, we selected the Brussel Sprouts and the Artesan Garlic Bread. Both would be construed as "eh." Brussel sprouts were loaded with bacon onions, both grilled, which I get but it's passable.
Next, the Caesar salad. Presentation wonderful. It has on it all you'd expect with added anchovies across the top and, surprisingly, tomatoes. Artichokes added to the side was a surprise, but nice. The dressing, which if we're honest, is the best part of a Caesar. I found it a tad too thin and just didn't quite hit the right notes. Frankly, needed more anchovy paste blended in in the dressing and parmesan. Maybe salt or pepper to bring out the flavor, which our very astute waiter would have happily brought, but my friend said. "No. You don't need it. Try to stay away from the salt. It is not good for you." So I did, but I shouldn't have.
Lastly, the entrees: Terry's Fried Chicken and Grey Goose Shrimp and Penne. Both plates have nice presentation. Very generous serving of chicken. I tasted it. It's good. My family friend ordered it. We both agreed it wasn't for us. My pasta dish was served with five large shrimp across the top. The Vodka sauce was spicy and wonderful. I needed more. If the dish was served with any pasta but penne -- which it possibly could be because unlike other restaurants, I did not ask to switch for a lighter pasta - this would be my return-to dish.
Sorry, no desserts were tested. As for drinks, my friend immediately ordered lemonade upon sitting down and I had the red wine Sangria. Loved it.
With ALL that being said, I like it. I'm going to return soon. Although, we were able to just walk in and be seated on a Wednesday night at 6:00, you may want to make a reservation just in case. Just make sure you try the Buffalo...
Read moreOnce upon a time there was Old Woodward Grill, and since it’s closing I had been hoping for another great restaurant/bar in the 555 Building. Assuming there was such anticipation for another great establishment here, maybe the Triple Nickel was willed into existence, since it was a great eatery. Although I was sad to see it go, in its place appeared the Birmingham Pub. Since its opening I have been claiming that the Pub has the single best burger in town, with its combination of 3 different types of beef!
I have yet to order a burger as it comes, but I have discovered the way that I truly have found a burger that is even better than the famed Redcoat Tavern! Although the inclusion of thousand island dressing adds pizzaz to the sandwich, it completely hides the unique combination of flavors of the variety of beef in the patty. Also, I’ve found white cheddar to be a much more suitable compliment than the American cheese, which I’ve found also drowns the flavor of the beef.
Although the food does and in my opinion always should be the highlight of a restaurant review, the reason I am here is my exceptional service that was had the last time I was in. My waitress was Danielle, and what ultimately made this experience different from the others is that I seemed to have a much easier time getting my order straight. I am guilty of upsetting staff at other establishments with my special orders, so having a server who is able get that order correct without any hesitation is valuable in my eyes! On top of that her personality is very down to earth and she seems to easily relate to her customers, which is a skill that is more valuable than any other in the service industry. After having spent 15+ years there myself, I know beyond a doubt that relatability is the one aspect that that perpetuates longevity...
Read moreOk, not being mean.. trying to be fair - even found reasons for 2 stars - one reason per each star. 1. Regardless ridiculousness of the whole experience the staff was nice (not meaning professionally nice. Just nice and fun people). Friendly host and server, the server didn’t mistake or mix up anything in the order. 2. The only good part of the whole meal was patty in the burger (btw don’t mistake for very good/excellent, just good enough), not the whole burger.. out of 5 dishes we shared and multiple drinks we had. Am not trying to practice sarcasm or exercise humor here so will try to get to the point with less verbosity. WHAT WAS NO GOOD ? Our reservation didn’t go through. Obviously we had proofs - for the first time in my life they came in handy. The host was cool tho to sit us anyway even if they ended up not finding our reservation in their system. Drinks were not good, amateur level.. Literally the worst calamari I ever had - deep fried something with no taste of actual calamari inside. No real taste of anything deep fried either.. just chewing on crispy paper kind of feeling. Fried cauliflower was just a joke. Burger + shoestring fries: no way anyone has his/her shoestrings that thick 🤣! You never gonna manage to tie them! Tastes like paper ((YET AGAIN) brioche bun of poor quality horribly sliced dull veggies (Meat patty wasn’t bad tho, read ⬆️)
