Ono Poke's $10.50 Big versus the$14.50 Kahuna sized Hawaiian Bowls are rather unique to Birmingham, and plenty enough as a light dining option prior to attending some nearby event or enjoying a pre-planned, networking meeting located at the PIZITZ Food Hall. The bowl choices include pick 2/3 Tuna, Salmon, Shrimp as a raw seafood base; included added ingredients such as white or brown rice, fresh garden greens, pineapple, various herbs, spices, and seasonings, then, pick from a few tasty sauces. I enjoyed the bowl on two different occasions. Every other food option at the Food Hall appears more pricey. Folks seem to say everyone else at the Food Hall serves Healthy food, BUT, I did not think so. Again, I'm from Chilton Co, and we know healthy food options. We grow fruits and veggies in the ground, pick'm fix'em, cook 'em, and serve. Our prices cost far less than Downtown Birmingham, AL. Wishing PIZITZ had installed a new floor. Half of this floor tiling might have been installed in 1960's: don't know if there's a way to shine it to smell clean. This is a part of Rebuilding Downtown Bham. The PIZITZ Food court appeared SAFE!!!. ONO POKE's food digests good. It's healthy food. Oh, yeah, if you drive, the street meter parking costs 0.25 per 15 minutes until 6pm. Thinking, this place is more geared toward Yuppie Millenials with more money than sense. If attending a production nearby, at the Alabama Theatre or at The Lyric, then Ono Poke may offer you a healthy, light dining option prior...
Read moreThe city of Birmingham has done nothing short of amaze me in the 9 years that I've been here. Pizitz Food Hall is yet another landmark that serves as part of the major transition that this place has being doing seemingly month in and month out. The growth is incredible! My roots are in Atlanta, but now... home for my family and I is in Birmingham!
The Food Hall is everything you might expect it to be (except for those two places that don't sell food lol). It's pretty much a food court, but with more creative food than Wendy's or Auntie Anne's. A vast variety of cuisines suitable for any palate. From waffles and Ethiopian dishes to Asian dumplings and Mexican. If you're familiar with Atlanta and have been to Ponce City Market or Krog Street Market... think the same concept, but Birmingham's spin on it! I can only imagine that it will get better over time! There's a nice big bar that's right in the center of all the action, with plenty of seating all around. There's even an awesome outdoor courtyard, which during my visit A TON of people were enjoying before the rain came rolling in.
The two non-food places include Yellowhammer Creative and yet to open, Warby Parker! I'm excited for Warby as I own a pair but have never been in one of the brick and mortar's.
Thanks Bham... hopefully this trend of new restorations, new developments, new eats, new venues...
Read moreI love the atmosphere of this place. When you walk up you see a patio with lighting and comfortable seating outside for your convenience day or night. Then you go inside and the smells of the foods cooking wafts in the air. Take the time to walk around and see all the choices first. We sure did! Our visit included a group of people and we all choose from different places to share. The Ono Poke place has Hawaiian bowls at its best. The staff are friendly and fast. As we told them what we wanted (the crunch bowl) it was done before we finished paying for it. Now that’s service! Then over to Eli’s Jerusalem Grill to get a sampler platter of lamb and beef schwarma (spelling errors aside it’s awesome food) we stopped at each of the vendors for tacos, lumpia and desserts. Then when everyone chose a favorite we sat on the over stuffed chairs and tables. The Plaza offers many styles of seating from bar style seats to 4 tops table and the lounge seating we love. We stayed for an hour and chatted after we had finished eating. One of my friends needed new glasses and there was an eye care store there. One stop shopping for sure. She got it all done in a few minutes. In a hurry? Get your food to go. It was a fun outing to a new place that we enjoyed. Go check it out for yourself and take some friends. I recommend you slow down and really get the full experience...
