Rock'n 50's Cafe — Restaurant in Bismarck

Terrible experience. Were judged by our appearance. It was a last minute decision to go out to eat while we were out on a quick errand so we were not dressed our best. Visited this restaurant today, 3/15/2021, with my fiance and two young sons. We all ordered meals, which were very good and we were satisfied with our service up until my two boys wanted to order desert. One was able to order but the waitress walked off before my other son could order. We were waiting till she came back with his desert to order my other sons desert and during this time an older gentleman stopped to ask us if we would like our check. I stated that we did not want our check just yet as we were not done ordering but we would like a to go box. Our waitress then returns with a to go box and our check. My son was too embarrassed at this point to order his desert so we sat and waited for ten minutes for the first desert to come to our table. Finally my fiance got up and went to the register to pay. The older gentleman was there and once he had received our payment, we seen him nod to our waitress, who went back into the kitchen and came back with my sons desert with an excuse about why it took so long. I am pregnant and was wearing sweatpants and little makeup, my sons were in their play clothes as they had no school that day, and my fiance was nicely dressed but happens to be native and wears his hair in a ponytail. We are not thieves and never once have tried to leave a restaurant without paying but it was obvious that today we were judged entirely on our appearance and treated...

This is our second time here in the past two years. You want classic diner food, you should come here. Although my burger wasn’t great, there are many other things on the menu to try. I’d come back based on that, the throwback vibes and the wonderful customer service.

Customer service gets a 5 We had a pretty large group (3 adults, 5 kids) so the food took a while to come out. There were a lot of other folks to tend to and they looked a little short staffed.

Overall the food gets a 4 I ordered the Elvis burger and fries. The description is a spicy burger with sauerkraut, but it was a just a regular burger with regular sauerkraut, nothing else. Nothing spectacular about it, this gets a 3 because it was still edible. My son got a cheeseburger, lemonade and fries. He liked his food. Popcorn...

The owner is a wonderful person who not only cares about his customers but his employees too (which is something I find important when choosing a business to visit). The servers and bartenders are always friendly and provide excellent service and the food comes in big ol portions that you'll eat all of. Not to mention the decor and music (that you can pick yourself on one of the many jukeboxes in the restaurant) are a lot of fun.
