Even newer 2025 Review with New owners: quality&portion sizes have gone down and prices have gone up. Honestly this place is just going off the name at this point, and will probably be closed in 5 years. I would go back about once a year since it's still 'okay,' but the gap between this place and the average Chinese restaurant is narrowing, which makes it very difficult to justify the event higher prices and smaller portions. And honestly, the service has gotten slightly slower, since the original owner isn't working there herself anymore. I would love to see this place do better, but the new owner seems to value profit over product, which is a losing formula.
Aug 2024 review: They forgot the sweet and sour sauce it's my carry out order today. Considering how high the prices still are, I expect better. And they didn't include forks on the stapled bag. When I asked they just handed me unwrapped forks....like I'm supposed to just carry them unwrapped and loose all the way home? That's rather unsanitary in my opinion. Furthermore, they don't put little pieces of pork in the fried rice anymore. On a different occasion, I ate at a table about 2 months ago, and the booth seating is getting very, very worn out. And the appetizer came at the same time as the meal. I really want this place to justify the prices they charge, but I just keep getting let down.
Old updated review. Even after a $2+ price increase on everything, I think the food quality has gone down a bit in the last year. I was willing to pay the old prices for the quality of food before, but now it's just not worth it. And they took a bunch of things off the menu. Sometimes it takes a while to get your take out order.
Old review :Best Chinese food I've had in Jackson. Prices reflect the quality. Most of the food I've had here has been excellent. Only complaint is the one time I had the crispy duck it was dry....
Read moreI used to love this place, under the old management. I order food today general tso chicken and crab Rangoon and the food was awful. It tasted like they went and got a thing of McDonald's BBQ and dumped it on the chicken. The ragoon was good on the outter edges but the inner part ( the cream part ) was so disappointing. There was little to no flavor or crab and the cream was like sour cream. I called the restaurant and was speaking with the manager and trying to be polite and understanding given that it's new management but when I was told they could not help me unless I brought the food back I Starred getting upset. I explained that I threw it away at work and I was no longer at work. The management kept arguing with me and literally told me " go to your work, dog in garbage and get food bring back in and tell me what wrong" that's when I started to get upset and rude. Like I was trying to be understanding and kind but then got told multiple times to go dig in the garage. Eventually they agreed to giving me a refund, I sent my fiance in to handle the transaction in which the manager started crying and saying how her family's food is good. After finding this out I felt bad for being rude so I called back up there to apologize for how I handled the situation and stated maybe it was a understanding with the whole garbage thing. Mid me apologizing the manager hung up on me, I called back and she said " i don't want to talk to you" i explained i was trying to apologize she said again " I don't want to talk to you our food good you wrong" and hung up.
I used to love this place, I will not be back. It's pretty bad that 3 people tried my food and said the same thing....
Read moreUse to be top notch. The only place we would go. New ownership after previous had owned it for 30 years. NO. I've grown up eating this food. The quality of the food was already questionable with previous owners towards the end. Buy, our General Tso's was bland. And I mean ketchup and water bland. The sauces used to cling to the food. Not anymore! We ordwr Xtra Spicy. Bow that used to get us red 🌶 extract. Now it got me 1 whole dried 🌶 on top. Not a single red flake in the sauce. But honestly, I had to get to the bottom to inspect the sauce. It was so thin that it was like water in the bottom of the container. Our cashew chicken was the same. Sauce was like water. Every peanut was burnt. No flavor from either 1. And I mean none. Are they allergic to seasoning? It's kind of important in this cuisine. And the tooper is $$$. My order was always the same. $43. Not bad for dinner. Now, that exact same order is over $62. You raised the prices almost 50% on almost everything? I know when a restaurant starts raising prices and skimping food quality, it's usually the end. But how the hell do you start out by doing that in a restaurant that has been established in the community for over 30 years? Like the regulars wouldn't notice? Yen Kin is now a "Yeh No" for me. That's sad. I loved that place, and they killed it. And the staff? Eeh. 1st day, maybe? For...
