540 Social - Blacksburg — Restaurant in Blacksburg

The place itself looks fun and entertaining! It was recommended by various friends and family while visiting in town for the weekend.

I got to the place early before opening so I could have my lunch in the car prior to meeting up with my friend. So I arrived around 1135 (doesent open until 12). As I’m sitting there, I assume one of the guys that works there is pulling in and rolls his window down. Asks if im going into that place ( while pointing at the building) and I reply yes, just waiting for a friend. Rolls his eyes and seemingly sarcastically says ok.

I completely understand the parking lot is for customers only and you don’t want people parking there that won’t be going to your business. However, the parking lot was empty so it was not like I’m preventing potential patrons from parking. And also the fact is that I was going to be a customer.

Anyway, the interaction was enough to leave a bit of a sour taste so I texted my friend we will just do something else.

There’s a location in Roanoke which is my next stop so will check that one out...

I’ve been to this bar plenty of times since they’ve opened. It’s grad weekend and they shut the bar down at 11:00??? The first time they’ve ever had more than 10 people in this place and they close the bar? How do they expect to keep a business when they deny service to 100+ people. It started off with them saying they wouldn’t make any special drinks, then they just shut down the whole bar??? Are u serious? I waited in line for 30 minutes to grab a beer and the second it was my turn they shut it down. They said they were too stressed??? The other bars like sharkeys, champs, tots, etc all deal with hundreds of people a night. They have 3 bar tenders and they say they’re understaffed???our group will never come back. The games are very fun and food is reasonably priced. They need to work on service at the bar. I’ve been here twice and both times I waited over 20 minutes for a drink, and they were not very crowded either time. The most recent time, after waiting 20 minutes, we were told (by a bartender) one bartender works the right side and one works the left side, so nobody will take our order in the middle and we’ll have to move. After moving, I was told the left side of the bar does not make mixed drinks and I’d have to move again. There were no signs or anything warning of this.
