Cabo Fish Taco — Restaurant in Blacksburg

You know the place is good when the host tells you that there is 50 minutes wait and the entire restaurant is packed. Luckily we were able to sip on delicious margaritas and the wait was only 30 minutes. As soon as we sat down, we were loaded with chips and salsa. The salsa had a bed of corn underneath and it was really good. Best part of the Spinach and Artichoke Heart Dip was the bread that came with, it was soft, warm and buttery; we end up putting the corn salsa on top of the bread. It was a tasty combination. The fried calamari was different from other restaurant, maybe it was the beer batter. Don’t get me wrong it was so good with the two sauces that came with. I finished the plate. Unfortunately our party of six were all feeling quite full before tacos were serviced. We have ordered fish taco, shrimp taco and chicken taco, they were all very good. My personal favorite is the shrimp taco under the specialty taco on the menu with Baja Bamg Bamg sauce. The sides were ok, nothing special. I gave a four stars is because my son order a chicken and shrimp burrito, it only had chicken in the burrito and the chicken was very dry and over cooked. I didn’t say anything to our waiter since they were busy and my son decided to have it as is. I mentioned it to our waiter when I was about to pay our bill, he said “I will be right back”. He took half off the burrito but he didn’t seem happy. I didn’t expect to be compensated at the first place. He could also be annoyed since we asked for extra utensils since there were only four on the table, we asked for extra napkins and sauces through out our meal. With our waiter’s attitude, it kind of made the perfect dinner less perfect. We still tipped him 20% since everyone will have bad days. My husband has heard nothing but wonderful things about this restaurant for years, After listening to multiple podcasts from VT (football & basketball) player, I think they are just hungry after practice. This restaurant is terrible in some many different areas. As soon as we were seated there were tortilla chips in my seat. I had to wipe my seat just to keep from sitting in chips. There were four of us in our party. nothing on the menu sounded good to me. My husband is a food connoisseur, I ordered what he ordered. Beer battered fish tacos . My oldest ordered bbq fish tacos & my youngest ordered a cheese quesadilla. We ordered 5 different side dishes. My husband and oldest liked the taco’s. My youngest & I hated our food. We all hated the sides, they were nasty. I’m wondering, How do you mess up rice? I had to ask for a refill for our drinks. When we ran out of chips, we weren’t offered seconds. The server dropped my first plate and it had to be remade. So I didn’t get to eat with my family. She did comp my meal. We tipped 15%, even after our experience. I asked for a To go cup. Moving to VA from CA, I am always on the hunt for true & delicious Mexican food. I couldn't wait to try Cabo Fish Tacos in Blacksburg. Upon entering, the restaurant appeared clean, but the music was too loud for more mature patrons such as myself, (53) . The food was ok. It's more an American twist on Mexican food. Our server was just ok... However, as I was sitting eating, I was watching another waitress. She didn't appear overly clean and each time she passed me she was constantly playing with her hair and/or face.Then she brought silverware & supplies to roll silverware bundles & sat it down on the table. Just before starting to work on the bundles, she reached up & adjusted her ponytail. I swallowed & said nothing. Next, she took a finger a stuck it in her mouth & began picking at a tooth. Without batting an eye, she grabbed a napkin & silverware & began rolling up a silverware bundle. I couldn't believe it! I went over to the young lady & excused myself telling her what I had just watched her do without even washing or use sanitizer on her hands. She was stunned! I explained the rational of what she had done. She apologized & went to the bathroom &, I assume, washed her hands. I don't think I am going back there to eat any...
