We get take away from this restaurant often. The are very hit or miss. Some of their dishes are amazing. Some are not. The Pork Belly with pan fried Udon noodles are fantastic. But the "sausage" noodles are not sausage, but those little canned hot dogs called Vienna sausage, so that was a disappointment.
They used to have the most amazing shrimp I ever had in my like, but they no longer have it. I have gotten the best seafood soup ever here, but when ordering the same thing again, it was not the same. Sometimes they run out of the fantastic soy marinated boiled egg, and will just use an unseasoned fried egg on your meal instead. They have different chefs at different times, so it's a luck of the draw as to whether the food will be amazing or not.
Now, onto service. Sometimes the person at the counter is pleasant and helpful, offering a replacement if they are out of something, etc. But a few times I've gone in and the person at the counter looks like they don't want to be there, just refunded an item without offering a substitute. One time someone was on the phone and very angry; they yelled at whoever it was for the 10 or so minutes I was waiting, then handed me my food, not speaking to me at all. So, if that was my only experience here, I probably wouldn't want to come back.
So, your experience can vary depending on who is the chef, who is at the front counter, and whether or not the food item you ordered is what you were expecting. I can understand going here a few times and having an amazing experience, or going here only once and having an awful experience.
With all that said, they are typically very good, but can have their off days. I recommend the pork belly with pan fried Udon, and I do not recommend the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI can't give this restaurant high marks. I'm echoing some of the other comments on here already. The food was okay. The soup broth was kind of average. As others have indicated, the mushrooms in the soup were rubbery and the bok choy vegetable was cut in a way that made it difficult to eat (especially for children). The rest of the soup was okay. There wasn't anything particularly fresh or special about it. We sat at a round table where there were various things placed already in the center of the table (I don't remember what they were), but it was pretty clear that when they wipe the tables in between guests they don't clean the part in the center (underneath the items) so it was very grubby and gross. I was there with my family and I don't want to sit at a dirty gross table. If I eat there again, which I might be willing to give them another try, I will get take out. As others have said the menu is unintelligible and the staff is not much help in explaining it. You're basically guessing at what you're ordering unless you have prior knowledge of what this kind of food should be. Someone else said that we should bring our water bottles if we want to drink water. What OTHER restaurant does that? Who EXPECTS to be denied WATER with his meal at a restaurant? That's BS. One of us picked out some kind of aloe flavored beverage in a bottle and it turned out to be an artificially sweetened product -- yuk. And by the way you can get a pretty nice noodle soup at Hunan King in University Mall. You have to ask for the soup menu though, and my overall experience with Hunan King as a restaurant is much much better than this place. I also agree with those who think the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBoth my partner and I ordered beef hot pots. We arrived 1.5 hours before close and had called before coming. No one was dining in, the tables were dirty and the woman who āgreetedā us wasnāt friendly almost at all. We said weād be dining in ( BECAUSE WE WANTED A HOT POT WHICH IS SUPPOSED COME IN A POT! WITH A VARIETY OF VEGGIES AND THE MEAT OR WHATEVER TYPE YOU PAY FOR ON THE SIDE). YEAH, NOPE! Not what we got! Not only was the customer service rude and we paid before eating even though we dined in; but! They served our āHOTPOTā in a Styrofoam takeout box and I picked it up from the counter! AND! NOOO BROTH! This is NOT authentic food. Itās almost like they assumed we were ignorant and didnāt know what a hot pot would be. Iām a HUGE foodie and LOVE and respect and seek out other cultures food, especially if itās a local place. They do not have fountain drinks or Water! And! Not only was it not a hot pot; they also made us feel like they wanted us to dine OUT! Even though by the time we got our food we had an hour til they closed. The ONLY reason Iām giving it 2 stars is because the food didnāt taste bad at all, itās just not at all what I ordered or wanted. I was polite and thanked them. But 37$ for 2 ābeef hot potsā and a CAN of Mountain Dew and a bottle of aquafinaā¦. Ha.. no I think Iāll definitely not be coming back. I was waiting excited to go for thissss! AND I know what a dang hot pot is!...
