This was our first time coming to the restaurant since the name change from Burche to Crockett’s. When previously visiting Burche, the service wasn’t great - we experienced poor engagement from the host/waiter/waitress; however, the food was fairly good though.
Upon visiting Crockett’s today, there was zero change in appearance within the restaurant, and the atmosphere of the host/staff/bartenders felt the same as the previous Burche. The host initially said they were going to seat us at a small table on the side nearest the kitchen. I asked if we could sit at the bar, and the host said it was open seating.
When we sat at the bar, we were kindly greeted by the only available bartender and he said if we had any questions or anything at all, he would literally be right behind the bar. At this time, we were the only two physically sitting at the bar.
I requested to try a seasonal Night Owl Pumkin Ale and when I was provided the sample, it was light in color, didn’t smell of the seasonal beer, and it tasted like a bitter cider. It was obvious to me that the keg was likely new and after having it installed, the lines weren’t cleared or replaced.
I addressed the odd taste and appearance of the sampled beer and the bartender said he was going to check it in the back. When the bartender came back, he poured another small sample, but it was the remaining half of the beer that was in the line, and then it was the new beer that was flowing through. I had to suggest filling a cup of beer to ensure the new beer was coming out.
While placing a food order for 3 appetizers, the bar tender asked a question about my order but was distracted by some guests who addressed him as they left. The bartender continued to enter our order and I asked the bartender what he was asking me before he addressed the other guest. Unfortunately the bartender said he didn’t remember, and he said he lost his train of thought. The food later came out, and the presentation appeared nice, but the food temperature was barely warm.
While we ate and drank, the bartender was not behind the bar. He was busy taking orders out to other tables, and we unfortunately lost all our customer service. When the bartender did return behind the bar, he walked past us, not checking our status, and worked on getting dishes into the dishwasher.
At the time we were ready to leave, I was finally asked if I wanted another beer, but I kindly declined due to being done with our meal.
Unfortunately this being the third negative experience at this actual establishment, I will likely not return. The business needs more than just a name change. I feel that management and staff needs some coaching and they need to be considerate of what they are doing/saying in front of guests. There were several employees seen casually communicating with one another in the front, as well as they were overheard saying that everyone needs to be happy to be there everyday.
I’m curious to try the Crockett’s in Puyallup to see if the vibe/food quality is the same. I also felt the price of our two drinks and 3 appetizers equaling $80 was a bit high - especially for the lack of quality of food we received.
Sorry team Bonney...
Read moreLet me start by saying this place just opened, so I expect some growing pains and I'll probably go back after 6-8 months and re-review. For now, they get 3 stars for SLOW service and low value.
This place is like an upscale Applebee's; the menu has a little of every cuisine and the flavor is good, but the execution leaves much to be desired. I like that there's something for everyone.
The servers were great. Attentive, friendly, and patient.
They are clearly short-staffed in the kitchen so it took about 50 minutes to get our food which is pretty abysmal when you've got small children but maybe not such a big deal if you're there for date night or to visit with a friend. I understand the wait but would have preferred a warning prior to being seated.
Overall, the food was tasty but the portions were small for the size and surprisingly didn't come with any sides. To the owner- you could really increase the value for customers by serving a small salad or even some bread with the entrees. serving on nicer, larger plates would also be more appealing.
More detailed review on the dishes we ordered: Ragu was spicy but that's expected. It tasted great but didn't seem to make sense as a pasta dish. If it is to be a pasta dish, it should contain more pasta proportional to the sauce and that would help with portion sizes feeling more adequate for the price.
Shrimp & grits was very good. The shrimp was cooked well, gravy tasted great and the sausage was a welcome addition. The grits themselves were a big, firm lump which is NOT what one expects when ordering shrimp & grits. You could also increase the portion size on this just by adding more grits with a creamier texture.
Waffle had a hint of cinnamon but had a lot of voids like they didn't fully fill the waffle iron so my kiddo felt a little cheated there.
Kids mac & cheese tasted nice. It is not Kraft, they clearly made the sauce. Tasted like Gouda, I think. As an adult, I would eat it.
The kids meals are a bit disappointing as it's also just one thing on the plate. I'm off the opinion that a meal should have sides included. Especially with kids who might pick at a few things and need a more well-rounded diet. How about a vegetable...
Read moreMy partner and I stopped in on a whim. We were not greeted and just stood there eyeing the server without any interaction. We finally decided to seat ourselves. About 15 min went by and the hostess came over, handed us menus and didn’t say a word, even when I said “hello” and “thank you”. Our sever came over about 10 min later and took our drink order. We asked what was on tap, she told us, ordered our beers and waited about 2 min and then she placed my bottle of beer, without a glass down and my partner’s pint down and asked if we were ready (we weren’t). I was expecting a pint, not a bottle, so that was annoying (and the beer was a porter but tasted terrible). We ordered fried zucchini and their French fries with Gorgonzola aoili. When it arrived, it looked good and they were generous portions. The zucchini came with about an ounce of dipping sauce and we had to repeatedly flag the sever for more sauce. The zucchini was greasy and over cooked but was tolerable. The fries… oh lord, they were terrible. Soggy fries and the sauce was full of raw garlic that burned our mouths. We love garlic and this was so overpowering that we couldn’t finish it. Our tummies were NOT happy afterwards. And the prices! Wowza… our bill was over $50 for two sides and two beers. The waitress never checked in and simply sat our bill on the table and never saw her again. We paid with the QR code on the receipt and left. We will never return. Mediocre/terrible food that was overpriced, and ridiculous unfriendly service make it completely not worth to ever try again to see if this was a fluke experience. I would like to mention that they serve ribs for $40! Insane! We wanted to try an entree but at those prices? I think no. Hop N Drops down the road is much better and consistently...
