I am really sad writing this post because blue deer has been one of my favorite places since they opened. I have been an avid supporter and customer since living in Boone because I love the atmosphere and their coffee. Unfortunately I bought a coffee from them earlier today and had a 30 minute meeting with a teacher in the building across from them. When I returned, my car was being towed and I was informed that blue deer had called bills garage because I was not a customer. I have spent so much at blue deer and have brought them 30+ new customers. As a broke college student paying $150 to get my car back was incredibly painful. I am even more upset because I paid almost $10 for an overpriced coffee to not even be considered a customer and get towed. I am extremely disappointed and after talking to ownership they basically said they “didn’t know.” I was not even offered an apology. While it is unfortunate, I will never be going back or recommending this place again. To be treated so poorly after all of the support I have given to this small business is ridiculous and shows how they...
Read moreI have visited both blue deer in Blowing Rock & now this one on King in Boone. At this location, Luc was at the register and Lindsay made my vanilla shake with crumbled chocolate chip. She took the time to get it right. Both employees were nice, too! While I love their ice cream which is sourced from Homeland Creamery in Julian, NC—I did ask where they get the baked goods & it’s actually US Goods, from my understanding.
I would love for them to source local cookies & baked goods to use in their ice creams. It would elevate the experience! I did find out the bagels are local, that’s a plus for me!
BTW, our son enjoys their coffee and the upper levels to occasionally get his projects and reading done for App State.
I do highly recommend Blue Deer! If you can, go up and sit way up high and get the views!

Read moreAnother nice coffee shop. I stopped here on the way out of Boone for a coffee for the road. I ordered an iced dreamsicle (orange) latte. It was definitely interesting, probably not my favorite but not bad by any means. A bit steep ($7) after tip, but I guess you can't really even get a hot drip anywhere for less than $4 so I can't complain too much! The shop itself is really clean and cozy, there is an upstairs area too where I sat for a bit while enjoying the first few sips and watching passersby on the main street below., I think next time I would try a different flavor and definitely get a cookie...
