We decided to try this restaurant based on glowing recommendations, but our experience was something else entirely. For starters, there seemed to be more employees than patrons. Perhaps they were expecting a sudden influx of customers.
The hostess was multitasking in the most unconventional way: eating at the check-in counter and at times, the bar. Talk about customer service with a side of snacks!
Then there was the fish, which must have had an identity crisis because it tasted like pork and was as dry as the napkin I had to spit it into. Seriously, there was no seasoning on any of the food. On the bright side, the staff was friendly and tried their best.
I ordered a classic margarita, hoping for the refreshing taste of fresh lime and agave. Instead, I got a mixer special that left much to be desired. And the peach cobbler? Let's just say it was more like peach rubble. It appeared to have been scraped from the bottom of a pan that had been sitting out all day, then nuked in a microwave. Fresh, it was not.
The location itself was pleasant, with well-thought-out decor. Despite the staff’s tendency to snack around the restaurant, they were kind.
I had high hopes for this place, given the rave reviews. I'm thinking we might have caught them on an off day. Unfortunately, it was disappointing enough that we won’t be back. The price we paid was equivalent to what we’d spend at a top-tier restaurant like 2Johns, but the experience was far...
Read moreOur first time here - the hostess was really nice. Initially, we decided to sit at the bar. However, the bartender wasn't the least bit friendly. The hostess happily seated us, and we were greeted by Ava she was so helpful, explained her food suggestions, and was very attentive. The atmosphere and drinks were awesome!! The food was overrated. We ordered a cup of gumbo, but after smelling it a couple of times, we were sure it was sour and it was bubbly. We informed Ava, and she took care of it, notified staff, and she mentioned to us that the gumbo had been on the warmer "all day," which confirmed our concerns. We ordered garlic parm oysters and shrimp cocktail for appetizers. For our meal, we chose the drunken chicken and grilled ribeye. The chicken lacked seasoning and flavor, and the presentation was poorly executed. The ribeye was overcooked. It was supposed to be medium well, but it was well done. Additionally, it was salty. The best part of our visit was our waitress, the drinks and the atmosphere. We enjoyed the vibe but would've loved a bit more attention...
Read moreI must say, the Frozen Pirogue has caught my eye and has held my interest since they started construction. They chose an awesome area, that is obviously the newest hot spot in town. The Shreveport, Bossier area gets new places to eat everyday, but the most unique and authentic place was brought to life here. The frozen Pirogue has got more style, uniquness, authenticity, and originality ... than anything I have ever seen in this area! The atmosphere, wait staff, patrons, and goodness let us not forget the food ... were ALL 5 stars, all the way. I ordered 3 appetizers to try a few things while I was there and all 3 were splendid! The shrimp cocktail, fondu, and those spinach potato skins were yum! To whomever dreamed this place up and brought it to life, I say bravo ... my hat is off to you! You conjured up a place that has no comparison. Everyone is talking about it! I am personally putting the name of this place out to the public, as a "must go" and will continue to do so! Again, I gotta...
