Casa Verde Taqueria in the Boston neighborhood of Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts has a large outdoors seating area in the back of the restaurant next to the parking lot. Parking is free in the back parking lot. One of my friends dines outside only during this health situation. There are large umbrellas on most of the tables and we got hit with the sun regardless, around 4pm. We ordered the Brussels sprouts taco, pescado taco, queso with carnitas and chips, and barbacoa quesadilla. Each dish was delicious and flavorful. The tacos were one per order and pricey. A carafe of water was placed on the table and the server poured our glasses from the carafe, leaving a small amount. When the carafe was empty, I went to a shop for several minutes. I came back to the table and after a while, I asked a server for a refill of the carafe. Afterwards, my friend said she had asked a server to refill the carafe when I was away from the table. The service was good otherwise. What I like is that different servers help out each table, not just one person. There is a HAF fee of 5% which I noticed when I got home and looked through the pictures. HAF is supposedly a kitchen fee and sales tax was applied to this fee as HAF was placed in the subtotal.

Well, it’s definitely isn’t a lone star nor does it come close!! Prices are much higher here. $15 for two tacos is a bit steep! Neither of which come with lime or hot sauce. The woman who rang me up humiliated me in front of the entire restaurant. Apparently you have to pay for the hot sauce? Maybe you should’ve charged me for it in the first place and a wedge of lime. If I order tacos over the phone I have no way of knowing whether or not they charge. Shrimp was chewy and the fish was a bit fishy if you know what I mean! Nevertheless I like authentic tacos and the full experience whether I choose to dine in or not. That means lime and hot sauce. She literally pulled a snarky McDonald’s type tactic trying to charge for the sauce. Yes, I do appreciate that she said this time she would include it but it’s a little much. I was going to save the little hot sauce but the experience and poor quality ruined my appetite to the point I threw it away. I would of been happier with mozzarella sticks and saved a few bucks. I have no problem spending on tacos that are fresh and come with the right toppings. If you’re in the mood to travel a bit further I also recommend you compare these to Los Amigos in Waltham, MA!

Positives: The food and drinks came out in a timely manner The chips were tasty Negatives: The corn and black bean salsa severely lacked acid and salt. There was not enough salsa for the amount of chips. The fish taco - the fish was mostly breading, very little actual fish (see photo) The pork taco - the pork would benefit from a sauce or jus, and also salt The quesadilla - overpowered by the mountain of cheese, the tortilla tasted stale and chewy The spicy margarita - I typically love a spicy drink, but the amount of spice on the rim was overpowering, even when just smelling it while drinking rather than tasting it, it took away from the flavor of the drink itself Service - I couldn’t tell you who my server was. No identification on the staff. The person who took our credit card payment did not say a word to us, not a thank you, and barley paused for a moment, more so did a drive by our table. Atmosphere - we sat inside thinking it would be cooler on a heat advisory day, but actually it was cooler outside. There was overly dim lighting. It was quite loud.

Food is ok but definitely overpriced. Wait staff is friendly.

When has it become the responsibility of the patrons to make up for the greediness of restaurant owners to not pay their workers a living wage?

I walked in, staff was friendly told me to sit anywhere. Served me pretty quickly, so no complaints there. I ordered the nachos, as I always do. Since this place has become way over priced, its the only thing left on the menu I am actually willing to order anymore (plus their tacos are pretty mediocre, especially for the price). And I get it, JP is expensive, and the rich people here will pay any sum for normal food, plus inflation is killing everyone, but come on, $15 for a plate of nachos with no meat? This is just getting ridiculous. Nachos were good, but not $15 good. AT MOST $12 or $13.

But boy was I in for a treat when I saw my check. They had put on a 5% HAF (waitress told me it was a fee to help pay out the back of the house). Now there's no mention of this on their menu, nor of when you walk in, I didn't look around but I'm willing to bet its not on a sign inside either. So basically, they FORCE you to tip people you never even see for basically doing their jobs. Tipping used to be something people did when they got exceptional service or they liked their waiter, not something compulsory because greedy restaurant owners no longer want to actually pay their staff. For the record no other industry has this policy. NOT EVEN customer service reps and they deserve...

Had lunch here over the weekend and it was a fairly mixed experience. We were sat about halfway down towards the back at a table in an area that was very poorly lit to the point where we would have had to use our phone's flashlight to read the menu had it not been on a QR code.

The waiter was relatively friendly and brought us cold water. We proceeded to look at the menu and order however they don't have a dedicated kids menu; we had to order our kid a $12 quesadilla, which was a bit too adult-y for your average kid since it had a few other ingredients besides cheese inside and kids are picky.

Other than that we went for their chips & guac ($12) and it was incredibly lime forward. My wife and i theorized that the kitchen staff probably didn't give it a taste test. At least we won't be getting scurvy anytime soon...

I went with the Carnitas Torta ($19) which had slow-cooked pork shoulder and a few other ingredients stacked up on an Iggy's bread roll. It was actually tasty and the meat was beautifully chopped. It was a tad messy but overall I was very pleased with it. The side of patatas bravas that came with it was underseasoned but pretty good overall. My wife liked her tacos.

All in all the place was okay. The service was good but the food was hit or miss and the inside was jus way too dim. I wish they had a few more approachable options for kids but all in all...
