Visiting from another state. Came here with some friends who told me this was the best place for fried clams which I was craving for. They said order the seafood platter which comes with the best clam chowder. The place was packed. We were squished waiting at the front door which was the only place to wait until your name was called. My opinion, it was like a hole in the wall where locals gather. (Nothing wrong with that. ) The waitress was pleasant but extremely busy. We all ordered the fried seafood platter plate. It wasn't long before our food arrived. As soon as the plate was sat before I was immediately disappointed. I really wanted fried clams and they gave me 4 clams with the bellies, 4 shrimp, 3 scallops and 2 half pieces of fish. I was looking for a plate overflowing with these items since it's called a platter. Tasting every item including the clam chowder left me disappointed as there was no good seasonings that I liked on any of the food. The only thing I enjoyed was the fries. I'm leaving this spot to the locals who seemed to really enjoy the food while my search continues for great fried clams in Boston.

Early in the meal I thought I had Covid because I couldn’t taste the bread. Then my boyfriend told me the bread had no taste. Phew. We both seemed to have bigger eyes than stomachs because we ordered like crazy: pizza, seafood entrées which came with a big mug of chowder, bread, and two large sides. And we somehow ordered french fries on top of all that. The pizza was surprisingly delicious and the crust was probably the best part. The cheese seemed to have a habit of sliding off but that might just have been because it was served so hot. The seafood entrées were just OK – the scallops were rather tasteless other than the breading on top. We did enjoy the chowder which was surprisingly thick and creamy, although it was almost devoid of clams. and finally, the fries were delicious. Next time I think we’ll just get a pizza and fries. As an aside, Sage decided to try a Negroni and it was terrible which was not the fault of the restaurant but it’s probably just a terrible drink, period.

This cozy Irish/American/Italian(??) pub exceeded my expectations. I admit, this kind of generic American pub fare is not at all my favorite, but I went with a friend. I ordered the soup of the day (escarole) and a cheeseburger. The escarole was definitely the highlight (not bad for three bucks!) and my cheeseburger was definitely above average. The steak fries were under seasoned, but nothing a personal application of salt and pepper couldn’t fix. To be clear, this bar is not promising anything it can’t deliver. I’m confused why it’s an Irish pub when the entire menu seems clearly Italian/American. Pasta, steak, and seafood (broiled or fried). It was definitely well attended the Friday lunch I came in, and the staff was friendly and cheerful, if a bit swamped. If you are in the mood for above average American bar-food fare it’s definitely a strong option. I doubt its menu has changed in decades, but I think for a certain clientele that’s probably appreciated.

Galway House is one of those old JP watering holes that has remade itself with and excellent kitchen. They have a full bar and a nice selection of beers (Inc a lot of local brews). They make some of the best steak in Boston, delicious and very well priced. Don't miss the Montreal ribeye! Unless you have an extremely hearty appetite, you'll be taking some home. (See the photo below for all its steaky goodness) Entrees include a selection of steaks, broiled and fried seafood, and a number of pasta dishes. On my quest for good onion rings in Boston, theirs are excellent and a lot like you get at the beach. They have clam chowder as a regular menu item but always have a house made soup which shouldn't be missed. Tonight it was Portuguese kale soup with chorizo, yum! Im usually too full for dessert, but I try to make room when they have strawberry shortcake on the menu. There is often a wait for a table but it's well worth it.
