Fuji at HSP — Restaurant in Boston

Today September 16, 2024, at approximately 1:30pm at Fuji at High Street Place I ordered sushi, and I experienced two healthy doses of racism from the cashier and customer in line after me. The cashier was covertly racism with a look on his face like “you eat sushi” and from a guest who was overtly racist and completely unhinged because I asked her, “Are there straws there” and she grabbed her purse as if I was going to steal it. Fuji at High Street Place, please put straws out and label your condiments so I don’t have to ask your racist and privileged guest for a straw for my $3 San Pellegrino Orange Drink. Additionally, please make your cashiers aware that people of color eat sushi too. I will never eat at Fuji at High Street Place again. This was the worst experience of my day! I will take my sushi appetite to another...

I’m writing this review as a regular—I go once or twice a week. You’d never think that sushi in a food hall is going to be amazing. But it is. I usually order ahead because it gets busy, and they always prepare it on time. The staff is pleasant and friendly.

But let’s get to the most important part: the sushi is great! I’m really particular about the freshness of sushi, I can smell something off a mile away. But here, the quality is outstanding. The tuna is always a deep, dark red, and they even have toro tuna!! I opt for simple sashimi or basic rolls but their fancy rolls are so fun and different. Honestly, you probably won’t find better sushi takeout...

I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel obligated to warn others. I had one of their bowls and ended up with severe food poisoning that lasted two full days. I was violently ill and completely out of commission—something no one should have to experience from eating out.

There was nothing obviously wrong with the food at the time, but within hours I started feeling sick, and it only got worse from there. I’ve been sick more than once since, and I’m honestly still recovering.

Food safety should be the bare minimum standard for any restaurant. I hope they take this seriously and investigate, because no one else should have to go...
