I was visiting Boston as a tourist and I have to say that this was my absolute favorite place to stop out of any of the places that I saw.
Upon walking up we were greeted with people dressed in colonial garb and in character the entire time that we were there. The tour is given by different characters and they even get you role-playing with them by assigning you a character which was actually a person who lived during the same time that the Boston tea party happened.
This tour is immersive with the role-playing, taking you on a replica ship where you get to throw tea overboard, and having a few different presentations.
Their presentations were quite impressive. They really put a lot of work in to creating this. There was one video / projected presentation that made it look like people were in front of you acting but you knew that it was all pre-recorded and being projected.
They had a video that was a reenactment but informative of the history of the Boston tea party and it was really well done. Movie quality.
The most impressive presentation they had was when you look at the wall you see a bunch of oil paintings. Two of those oil paintings had characters that talked and moved but still looks like they were oil paintings. I know they were using a projector and something that was pre-recorded but the quality was off the charts and mind-blowing.
The tour took about an hour, was well worth the price and a lot of fun. We visited the tea room upstairs and tried their different teas. None of us are big tea drinkers but it was fun to get to experience the tea that they actually drank back then. Most of it just tasted like tea except for this one that tasted like tea that went through a campfire. It was definitely interesting.
The tea Room does sell a few different food items so if you happen to be hungry at this point on your tour around Boston they had a few good options that I would have bought had I...
Read moreVery informative and updated to provide some unique re-enactment character experiences. We enjoyed the interactive tea party throwing experience and the boat was well equips with replicas and beautiful architecture. I do feel that the whole experience was too long and some of the modern technology seemed out of place for the era specific setting presented at the beginning, but I do appreciate the modern tech used for some of the presentations. It’s a lot of information and history in a short hour, but it felt like A lot of this was for a field trip of kids and even for leisure touring. I felt like this could have been 30-45 minutes tops. Our group was small so the “group” participation moments were definitely quiet
Applause to our actors / characters who guided us and provided us with historical information. They never broke character and were clearly invested in what they were doing.
That being said - it was a little odd when the in-person guide would interact with the non living character portrayals - it was very distracting and seemed a bit over the top, but again, he was super committed to his role and for that I say “well done.”
Also just a side note for anyone with sensory issues, the video at the end was very loud to us and my daughter and I covered our ears especially during the gunshots and fighting portrayal.
We appreciated that because attendance was light we were able to adjust our tickets to an earlier time than purchased for which meant we didn’t have to wait very long.
The effort put into this information and artifacts are to be praised and we appreciated the opportunity to learn more about the Boston tea party.
We appreciated the tea room snacks and gift store as well as the clean modern bathrooms. The staff was...
Read moreHello, everyone who is planning to visit Boston. Me and my boyfriend went to Boston for a weekend and we wanted to see the Boston tea party ship and the museum, we reserved our tickets three hours before our reservation time. I would advise you if you’re planning to visit reserve a day before to make sure that you get the timeslot you want for the reservation.
This was a great experience. There was a lot of reenacting scenes. They basically gave us character details for each person who, was part of this tour. Everyone had a character that attended the Boston tea party back in the day. It was so fun day engaged with us as we were back in those years. They let us through the tea to the water you can see I included a video of my boyfriend doing that. They talked a lot about the history of Boston tea party, and they had animating visual arts. They had interesting story to explain how a Boston Tea Party affected the American revolution. At the end of our tour, there were five different types of teas that were thrown in the water back in Boston tea party. You could buy a cup for four dollars and try as much as tea you want. Which was really nice. The museum has a gift shop that we bought tees from which tastes exactly like the one they served in the museum. I would advise you to go here if you have kids that are older than four. Since there was a group in our tour that had a younger kid and got a little scared from reenactment when the actors were screaming, or talking louder. Also, if you are a type of person who has claustrophobia the tour, takes you to under the deck of the ship and shows you what it look like back in the day. So you can just decide to not...
