This past weekend My wife, brother in law, and I were at the FANEXPO at the Boston Convention center. After a long day of nerding out, we left the convention center to look for some food before we made the trip back home (Connecticut). We stumbled upon Larry J's and decided to give it a shot. My wife ordered first. Who I can only assume was Larry J took our order and he gave my wife some attitude when she asked for a description of some of the BBQ sauces. He told her that they were listed on the menu (not on the board in the window) and pushed a menu towards us. I figured maybe its a common question and he's sick of repeating it. After she ordered I was trying to read the menu while ordering and I guess I wasn't loud enough which is when Larry decided to give me attitude saying "you've been looking at the menu for 10 minutes! You should know what you want to order by now!". I was still on the fence on a few things so I just wanted to make a last minute decision so I started to speak up when I ordered and he continued to just give me attitude while speaking over me. That is when I just stopped ordering and said "You know what? We're done here" and we just walked away... After looking at some of these reviews and experiencing Larry for myself, its no wonder there was plenty of seating. Literally every restaurant around there was packed but Larry J's. After I walked away my Brother-in-law told me that Larry said he was "joking". Well after a long day and being hungry it sure didn't seem funny. In fact it seemed arrogant and degrading.... Some advice to Larry - Smile and treat people with respect. It will go a long way.
As for now, I definitely cannot recommend this place, especially with SO many better options...
Read moreMy husband always advises me to check reviews before trying a new restaurant. While I usually don't write reviews, I felt compelled to share my disappointing experience with this particular establishment.
I was in town for a conference and, during a nighttime walk, I noticed this restaurant situated in a park. It seemed like the perfect spot to try for lunch the next day since I hadn't had BBQ in a while and the location was beautiful.
However, my visit was marred from the start by an unpleasant greeting. The worker, possibly the owner, appeared annoyed when I asked questions about the menu. I was simply trying to understand the offerings and engage in some light conversation. There were no other customers in line, so he had ample time to interact with me but chose not to.
While the food was decent, the poor attitude overshadowed the entire experience. I requested a refill on my drink because it didn’t taste right, and he explained that they use a local vendor. Despite this, he seemed reluctant to give me a refill, as if it was a significant expense. I paid $40 for mediocre food and rude service, and I regretted tipping him, which he clearly did not deserve.
The restaurant's location is fantastic, but the service leaves much to be desired. It's unfortunate because it could have been an enjoyable lunch. My advice to the owner: don't take advantage of your location, and remember that your customers deserve...

I ordered a combo #2 and saw that everybody was raving over the burnt ends so I picked that up as well. The reviews were right, the burnt ends were the best I've tried. I had sides of candied yam, mac and cheese, rice, and coleslaw--all what you would expect in a good southern BBQ.
The lines did become a bit long and many orders came flying in because the food is that good. My advice, plan ahead. Expect some waiting as the husband and wife juggle the window orders and online orders, so order a bit more because you dont want to miss out. On a side note, a rabbit in the park kept me company while waiting. I wanted to get seconds while eating, but I didn't want to contend with another wait. I know I'll have to visit again to fulfill my BBQ needs. Did I mention the burnt ends? It's been hours and I'm still thinking about them.
They close up at around 7:30PM if the orders stop despite their sign saying 9PM for some nights. The owner even came out to the patrons to apologize of the wait and to see how we were doing when their was a lull in the ordering. His voice is deep and loud, so I can understand how it could be mistaken as rude, but he was really sincere and kind. It was also interesting to hear that he had friends in Guam where I'm from. As their motto says, it's fresh food,...
