We are very familiar with Penang Malaysian Cuisine and were excited to return to this location. We have dined here before and have also been long-time fans of their other location in Philadelphia, which we have visited for many years. Penang has always been a favorite of ours and consistently delivers an authentic and satisfying Malaysian dining experience.
This particular location is beautifully designed and has a very inviting atmosphere. The decor is elegant but still warm and comfortable, creating the perfect setting for a relaxed and enjoyable meal. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with excellent service. The staff was attentive, polite, and efficient throughout our entire visit. They took the time to answer our questions and made us feel welcome and appreciated.
We ordered several of our favorite dishes and were not disappointed. We started with the roti canai, which came out hot and crispy with the perfect texture. The accompanying curry dipping sauce was rich and flavorful. The mee goreng was cooked perfectly and had just the right amount of spice and tanginess. It was packed with flavor and truly hit the spot. The seafood fried rice was also outstanding with a great mix of shrimp, squid, and scallops all cooked to perfection. It had a wonderful balance of savory and slightly sweet flavors. The beef rendang was one of the highlights of the meal. The beef was incredibly tender and infused with layers of spices and coconut flavor that developed beautifully with every bite.
Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious and expertly prepared. You can really tell that the chefs here take pride in the food they serve. The presentation was thoughtful and the portions were generous.
Dining at Penang is always a special experience for us and this visit was no exception. Whether you are already familiar with Malaysian cuisine or trying it for the first time, this is a great place to enjoy a wide variety of authentic dishes in a beautiful setting. We look forward to coming back again soon and will continue to recommend Penang to our...
Read moreAs a Malaysian, I think I qualify to write this comment haha! In general, they serve pretty good options and dishes. The portion was huge for a VERY reasonable price in Boston. I return to this restaurant so so many times that I have lost count. It's a really good fix to my cravings and the staff were really friendly too.
But my true Malaysian blood asked that I critic on its authenticity too. I've tried many different dishes here, and I can tell you what's good/not based on a Malaysian taste bud.
Roti canai was ok, crispy and soft. Milk in curry was a little on the stronger end and it didn't bring out the true mamak style roti canai. If you are craving for roti canai, go for it. But if you can make curry at home, I suggest you make your own. But obviously, this can vary based on your personal preferences.
Nasi lemak was so gooooood. But again the curry chicken wasn't my favorite. This can vary based on your personal preferences.
Hainanese chicken rice was pretty good too! It's a yes!
I would not recommend prawn mee. The soup base wasn't thick enough and tasted like salt water.
Our favorite kangkung belacan? YES! Please order this and it's so good to have another bowl of rice!
I tried the seafood scramble egg chow fun (the "guong fu chao" 广府炒) too. I'd say it's pretty amazing! They serve you with lots of gravy and seafood. I LOVE IT!
Salty fish fried rice? YUMS.
What about beverage and desserts? I tried the Malaysian coffee, it's not the true char chan teng 茶餐厅 style, but it's better than the latte you ordered from a chain coffee shop. Sweet and milky. It's a good craving fix!
And for our favorite ABC ais kacang? Try it! They were a little heavy on the syrup part, but that's just because I prefer it less sweet. I finished the whole bowl myself, so you know it's...
Read moreI have been hearing good things about this place from fellow Yelpers and from my co-workers. I was not disappointed. Ever since my trip to Southeast-Asia, I have been looking for some good Malaysian food, and this place did the trick in satisfying that need.t
I already had a good feeling when I walked in, and the place was busy with most of the seats occupied with other customers, especially when thought I was coming in early to beat the dinner rush.
The décor is very clean and I personally like the bamboo themed hut they have throughout the restaurant, with a slightly opened kitchen, where you can see and hear the rhythmic clanging of the wok, as the cooks fire off each dish, only adds more to the experience to your meal.
I ordered the Roti, Oyster Pancake, Pineapple Fried Rice, Half a Hainan chicken and Kang Kung Belacan (Spicy Chinese Watercress with a Malaysian spicy shrimp paste) and it was all very good. I don’t know what they put in the curry that is served with the Roti, but I’m supper addicted; I could eat a huge bowl of just that curry. The Oyster Omelet is loaded with oysters and every bite was delicious, there have been other places where I order this, and you can tell that they use the small canned oysters. This place however, does not use small oysters; these are nice and big and do not have the taste of something that has been stuffed into a tin can.
The servers were very attentive and professional, they consistently checked on our table, making sure out glasses were full and seeing how we were enjoying our meal. I noticed that all staff are very fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin, and English, so there is no worries in communication with anyone.
I very nice place to come to get a taste of Southeast...
