Do not ask me how, but months ago we stumbled across these google reviews for the only Sbarro in the Boston area. We clocked the split in reviews - breakfast reviews get 5 stars, pizza reviews get 2 stars. When we ended up in terminal A for our trip, and saw Sbarro awaiting us at the top of the escalator at 10 am, we knew our time had come.
We each ordered a breakfast sandwich including one meat. One of us got sausage on English muffin, the other got bacon on a bulkie roll. They both were outstanding. The bacon+bulkie reminded me so much of bodega egg sandwiches in the best possible way. Greasy, gooey, dripping with yolk and cheese, it cured any future hangovers in advance.
Docking a star for confusing pricing / service - Apparently, the breakfast sandwiches come standard on a bagel (this wasn’t clear on the menu). All type of bread products were in the front display case so we picked our choices from that. The service was fine overall, it seemed like we annoyed the worker that we wanted to deviate from standard bread selection though? And once we paid we realized we’d both been upcharged 33% each for the non-bagel bread choices.
Overall the end product was so good that we’re going to have to come back next time we’re in terminal A, but just be aware of upcharge.
PS - we also got a slice of cheese pizza. Honestly, in a small quantity, we both really enjoyed it for what it is. Pizza has so many variations it’s impossible to compare it to La Befana, Umberto, Stoked any of the really good spots in Boston. This is more reminiscent of cafeteria pizza - floppy, heavy, greasy, salty with a thick layer of squeaky cheese. We were not at all mad about it and got our fix of nostalgia pizza for...
Read moreThis location is inside terminal A of Logan airport. The slice of mushroom pizza was fresh, and pretty good, but a little on the bland side. No Pepsi or diet Pepsi, so I got a no-charge cup of water - which means I got an 8-ounce cup with 5 ounces of ice. Oh well - welcome to the airport.
The real reason I'm giving this restaurant 5 stars is the sensational and rather one-sided argument that ensued after cashier guy left into the back of the store for a good length of time right before I ordered, and pizza-making guy had to take mine (and several others) orders, run the register, serve drinks, as well as continue to make pizza (it was just the two guys there; they weren't tremendously busy). When cashier guy finally came back out, pizza-making guy said something short (and I'm assuming no-so-sweet) to him, and whatever he said sent cashier guy into a rant for a minute or two. Then he stopped. Then he started the rant again a few minutes later. Then he stopped. Then a third time a minute or two later. All the while helping customers with a scowl on his face. Pizza-making guy said very little to nothing the rest of the time, and continued to tend to his pizzas. (Both guys were in their 40's-50's, best guess.) I was sitting too far away to hear the content of the rant, but it was fun to watch. I left the area at that point, so I have no idea if it continued.
Thanks for the entertainment, guys. It was like a awkward combination of a family (or lovers) quarrel - or maybe a real-life "Odd Couple" episode....
Read moreA worker who was setting up gave me my food, 2 slices of pizza, a drink, and a receipt that said $9 and told me the Manger wasn’t in yet to open the tills but told me I could have my food then pay when she comes. When she arrived she rung me up for $16 and when I asked about the price on my first receipt the man who gave me my food angrily said are you telling her I gave you all of this for free. I was just trying to pay for my food . Anyway before leaving I asked for a refill and the manager who was a female was very rude and said she was too busy. I would not recommend to anyone who wants to spend $16 on two pieces of pizza and a drink with no refill. Manager definitely needs to be retrained or find better work if that’s her attitude coming into...
