Not sure about this place….. the menu (drinks, wine, and food) is really confusing and all over the place. It was recommended we order 3 small plates per person and while I appreciate these are larger than usual tapas style we were pretty stuffed by that suggestion. I honestly didn’t really enjoy it very much for how much we paid per person. They’re trying to introduce French style tapas but I don’t see many French things at all (brisket sandwich? Fried cauliflower?). The charcuterie can only be ordered by 3 or 5 items, I didn’t see any choice to order them individually. There are no cheese options or a detail about accompaniments. The steak was inedible, we asked for it to be prepared medium well and it was rare bordering blue, the grits were not good at all they tasted and had a texture like overnight oats? We weren’t offered any dessert menu either but I saw people ordering desserts. The people who work there are very nice however and I think they are proud of the place. I hope they can work out the kinks, as they ARE new, because Woods Hill has been a go to for me for...
Read moreAbsolutely stellar experience here at The Block. Before we start on the food the restaurant itself was BEAUTIFUL. Right on the pier with a great view of the water and the boats. The whole place seems to be designed to mirror the farm-to-table mission with a beautiful forrest green marble bar and various art/decorations invoking nature throughout the restaurant. The service was top notch there was not a second of the meal where I felt I was waiting around for something and everyone on the staff including my server Kelsey were so sweet and attentive. The cocktails were delicious and for food I had the Carpaccio which is dry aged in house (dry-ager is viewable from the dining room!! so cool!), I also had the Lobster Pierogi, the Local Mackerel, Pomme Soufflé, and of course some of the Charcuterie (which is sliced right in front of you at the bar). All of which were incredibly fresh, exciting and mouthwatering. Very sadly did not have room for dessert but all the options sounded phenomenal and I will be coming back to try them and some other menu items that caught...
Read moreA fantastic restaurant with a lot of promise. They’re showing some shaking-out issues, but that’s to be expected, and I predict our friendly-and-learning service to bump up to knowledgeable and smooth very quickly.
They will recommend the charcuterie— listen to them. The duck rilette and pate campagne were excellent - everywhere they tried to combine flavors they landed the subtleties wonderfully. Other standouts for us were the deviled eggs.
They have a cocktail menu, which we sampled. Even as cocktail lovers, though, we were seduced by a really creative and well-curated wine list. It isn’t extensive, but we were happy with our selections.
Dessert was an amazingly smooth ice cream with a balsamic drizzle — top marks.
The location is amazing, right on the water with the sunset behind it. The food is already very good - given time to shake out the wrinkles, this could become a real...
