Booked a reservation at Ocean Prime to celebrate my wife's birthday as well as our daughter's birthday. It was an early reservation (5pm) to avoid crowds and the dinner rush. We waited at the front counter behind another couple who asked if there was any outdoor seats. They were told "yes" immediately and taken to a table outside. The hostess then acknowledged us and I told her we had a reservation. She quickly found our reservation and confirmed that we were celebrating birthdays. I asked if there was a table outside and was told "no" and "it will be about an hour wait for one." Even though I saw open tables available outside, I'll take her word for it.
Where I was troubled was we were taken to the back of the restaurant and seated immediately adjacent to the noisy kitchen (table 25 if I'm not mistaken). The entire inside of the restaurant was empty. The table we were seated at was also four feet from where the wait staff congregated and chatted. I have no issue with the wait staff congregating and chatting. My point is that we were in an empty restaurant, yet seated by a noisy kitchen and next to a spot where the staff are known to congregate and chat. Those aren't the conditions we envisioned to celebrate birthdays. If we had an 8pm reservation and that was the first available table that presented with the same conditions, then there would not have been an issue because that was the location that opened up first.
Our waiter came took our drink and appetizer orders and brought them out in a very reasonable amount of time. While we were eating our appetizers, there was a young lady (Christie?) who was in charge of re-filling our water glasses. She was absolutely on point. If our glasses were half full, Christie bounded to our table to re-fill one, or all, of our glasses. Our waiter was nowhere to be found. We finished our appetizers, the staff cleared our table and we were waiting for more than 15 minutes to put in our dinner order AFTER we'd finished our appetizers. I want to emphasize, the restaurant was NOT busy. When we finally saw him again, we had already decided to pay the bill and find another restaurant. I was sure to find Christie and present her with a generous tip and many thanks. Although her job was simply to refill our water, she was attentive and polite. She took her job seriously. She was one of the few bright spots of our visit. PROMOTE HER IMMEDIATELY. We left and went to Morton's. Morton's treated us like royalty. Their attentiveness and attention to detail was exceptional. In fact, it was exactly what I expected to receive at...
Read moreCame here last night for my birthday! I was so excited since I had never been here and was my first time. Services & Food, exceptional!!! Loved everything I tried on the menu and waiter was amazing! Very accommodating, helpful with making food selections on the menu since I didn’t know what I wanted. The drinks recommendations were spot on. Highly recommend the “Berries & Bubbles” as a cocktail drink. For the appetizer, ordered the jumbo lump crab cake. For dinner, ordered their current special which was the a Chilean Seabass with blue crab and thin sliced potatoes. For the birthday dessert I ordered the warm butter cake, which was so good and a perfect way to end the evening. This places food/ services is 10/10.
Atmosphere I would’ve given the Resturant 5 stars but the hostesses in the front were not as kind nor pleasant as I would’ve hoped when checking in. The description/ notes requested specifically a booth seating for birthday celebration. Now I get it not all requests can be filled however when it comes to birthdays, anniversaries or any type of special event; then restaurants should be able to make those accommodations for you. Especially if they are made in advance. Therefore we sat at a table and not in a booth as we would’ve liked. However even though we had a hiccup in the beginning of my experience/ arrival, Tyler (shout out to him) my waiter for the evening was the star of the evening. He definitely saved my birthday because he made it so special. I thank him so much for it. Thank you to Ocean Prime as well as I shall come back to try the other amazing options on the menu.
I definitely recommend anyone to stop by this place as their food is spot on and the place does have a really nice vibe once you’re sitting down. Only thing I will suggest is please make sure you have a reservation in advance and make sure to get there a little bit early as it can...
Read moreArrived on time for dinner for 2 and had to wait 15 minutes for our table that we saw was open while the 4 girls/hostess was chatting at the front desk. Was seated and brought a basket of popcorn. ( I thought this was a high end restaurant not the 99 steakhouse ) Was told the bread was made to order. ( I guess the microwave or reheated was made to order for $ 7 ) The service was good even though our waitress was also a bartender. Would not recommend the bar area for dinner as we had people standing so close to our table waiting to get to the bar seating that I thought we had 5 people at our table. My fried calamari was so brown. ( change your oil ) The wedge salad had too much vinegar but good portion. My teriyaki salmon over sticky rice was mediocre. Had better. My girlfriend Had the Hamachi Crudo and the goat cheese ravioli which was OK. My first don Julio margarita was good. But when I ordered the 2nd it was so bad all ice and mix no top shelf tequila like the first one I ordered. ( I know how this works as being a former bartender. After the first they use well garbage tequila and charge you top shelf. ) I think if you are presenting yourself as a fine dining establishment you should have somewhat of a dress code. It Looked like the circus just got out. And to top it off the valet charged you $30 when you pulled up and after requesting your car they made you cross the street and walk down 1 block to meet your valet in the middle of traffic to get into your car because they could not get to the front of the restaurant due to severe traffic congestive at the front of restaurant. Why the $30. If you are looking for a fine dining establishment in the waterfront this is not the place. I would Try Morton,s steak house or Smith & Wollensky Definitely 1 restaurant I will write off. I am so glad there are restaurants in the Columbus group like Mistrals...
