good ice cream, but honestly the service was terrible. i dont know why ice cream places always get so chaotic. its always on a hot summer night when the lines are outrageous and the people around you are obnoxious and the service is bad. the ice cream WAS good and very instagramable, as i could see literally everyone around me doing. i instagrammed mine too. but the ice cream experience wasnt worth the time it took. the worker making the ice cream wasnt paying attention at all, instead she was just singing and dancing and every time she made a mistake she said "OOP!" such as dumping out the sprinkles on cones instead of just like shaking a normal amount out. she was probably just having a good time and that is great but there were a lot of mistakes with our order because of this. we ordered two "beach please" and one "unicorn." the unicorn wasnt even a unicorn when it was handed to us, it was just a basic cone without anything else. not to sound dramatic but if we just wanted a random plain ice cream cone we'd just go to dairy queen or something. then the other person i was with didnt even get her ice cream and the party after us was served next. we had to say "excuse me" four times to get their attention. also the people in front of us RETURNED their cone and the worker TOOK IT BACK and im pretty sure we ended up with that cone. that is not allowed in food service! and we gave a 25% tip before this all happened!!!!! I'm honestly not sure if I'll ever be back... I'd like to try more flavors and toppings and MAYBE it was just because we went on a super hot night on memorial day weekend, but i feel like unless i go on a Tuesday night in January, it will probably always be this busy and...
Read moreWINTER 2024 (UPDATE) Today, I tried the mochi baby taiyaki, and I'm obsessed! For $6.59 (odd price), you can get nine of these delectable red-bean-filled cuties and a dipping sauce (I chose matcha, but you could get strawberry instead; or, you could pay an extra $0.47 to get both. Again, what an odd price). I didn't see the note about paying more for extra sauce until afterward, but I would have gotten the strawberry as well just to see what it tastes like. Guess I'll have to order this again (wHaT a sHAmE).
These are made to order, so I had to wait around ten minutes. I wasn't able to eat them fresh, but they still tasted really good cold. I imagine the edges would be crispier if you eat them right away. The dough was soft and sweet. The red bean was also sweet, but the sweetness as a whole was not overwhelming when paired with the sauce. There isn't that much filling in each one, but it was enough to taste the red bean. The matcha sauce was cold, smooth, and fragrant.
I hope this is a permanent menu item because it has already become one of my favorite treats. The price isn't that bad either for the amount that you get. I also hope they bring back the soufflé pancakes because I never got to try them; they are currently only available at the New York location.
SUMMER 2019 The first time I tried Taiyaki NYC was in NY, of course, but the quality for the Boston location is the same. Very picturesque desserts that will satisfy a sweet craving. I got the unicorn and matcha sesame, which were both tasty. They taste especially good when the taiyaki cone is fresh and warm, but be sure to eat quickly in the summer if you want to avoid a...
Read moreModern twist on traditional Japanese ice cream flavor combinations. I had to make a visit to the seaport after hearing that the tiktok famous fish cone ice cream 🍦🐠 had found a home in Boston.
Albeit a bit late to the trend, I needed to try it out for myself. The area where the store is located is under construction currently making it difficult to see signage if you are unaware of where to go. The store itself was quite small (less than a 12x4’ space to host the eager line of customers) and looked like it was also undergoing some renovations or construction 🚧 which made it even more so confusing to see if they were open.
After taking a look at the menu of prefixed options, I had decided to make my own as I was looking for a more simple option. The ordering format making your own has you choose a base Japanese style ice cream, cup/ traditional cone/ taiyaki fish cone (red bean paste or custard filling), and toppings. I opted for a custard filled fish cone, vanilla ice cream and the Oreo dust. We also tried a more traditional variety of the matcha and red bean paste filled taiyaki cone. As having more a western palate we found the matcha and the red bean paste to be quite bitter and would recommend getting something a bit sweeter if this sounds like you.
The ice cream itself has a much creamier consistency than I was expecting (almost like they make it with condensed milk- confirm? 🥛) and the fish cone came out properly toasty.
Over 4/5 ⭐️ for delicious quality food, flexible options, a range is diverse flavors and toppings, and for creating a fun and memorable alternative to my usual late...
