The food had potential to be great. The tiger bombs were cold as if they made a short attempt to try to heat them. Once I warmed them up at home they were delicious. The order of chicken satay didn't appear to be fresh. All of the pieces of chicken tenderloin were dry as though they have been cooked, and then sat around and dried up. They actually put one piece in that was fresh. So I was able to try what it should have looked and tasted like. It was also delicious. This made the whole experience even more disappointing, since they had potential to be fantastic. What ruined the whole experience was the young lady who identified herself as the manager on duty. Zero customer service skills, rude and unfriendly. Even in making the complaint, I was very complimentary about how good the food could have been and how I would really like to try it again and get a fresh order. Not only was she cold and unfriendly, but she had no idea how to properly handle a customer complaint. She denied that the tiger bombs could have been cold, even though I wasn't asking for them to be replaced. I had warmed them up and ate them. I had ordered dinner the night before, and called as soon as I got home and saw the condition of the food. I had already tried a tiger bomb while I was driving away. I didn't try the chicken until I got back home. I told her that I wouldn't eat the chicken and I would return it so that she could see what the problem was. I made a second trip back the next day. She made no attempt to look at the food that I returned. I just wanted them to remake it with fresh food because the bite I was able to try really was good and I wanted to give it a second chance. She was so rude that I changed my mind and just asked for a refund and left. Because of her reaction, I feel like they had no interest in doing better or problem-solving what caused this to happen. If this is the level of customer care, I wouldn't feel good about eating there again. This girl who said she was the manager on duty ruined the whole experience. I ended up just asking for my money back and leaving. So in two trips there, I never actually got to eat a meal. Wouldn't waste my time. There are lots of other places to...
Read moreThis review was long overdue. Last summer I flew into Bozeman from the Northern VA / Washington DC area to attend a wedding and wanted some Thai food before my 1 hour drive to the resort. This place was close to so I hit it up after my GPS spun me in circles a few times.
Upon entering I didn't see any Thai people working the front of the house, so I had low expectations. Glancing at the lunch menu my first thoughts were that the prices seemed a bit high. I'm half Thai and cook many things myself but I gauge a restaurant by one of the more Americanized dishes, Pad Thai. Besides, it's a pain to cook so I prefer to have someone else make it for me. While waiting for my order I chatted up the server and had a pleasant conversation and found out that the back of the house were all Thai. Then the order arrived and understood why the price seemed high. The portions were very generous! To get similar amount of food in my area would have cost much more. Montana folks apparently expect big plates! I told the server to tell the chef I said "Aroi" which translates to delicious.
Just as I was wrapping up he came out to say hello and we spoke for a good amount of time. Discovered that Thai produce and ingredients are difficult to acquire in MT and has an effect on pricing, thus the larger portions to compensate. It was a fantastic conversation to start my long trek preceded by delicious food.
I am extremely critical of Thai cuisine since I grew up eating it, watching my mom make it and cooking it as well for my friends and family. So yeah, it was a pleasant surprise and happy I chose Thai Basil for my lunch stop. Sadly my flight back the end of the week was super early so I couldn't visit one more time before returning home. Once again, long overdue review but thought about the place when discussing the wedding trip. Nice place, nice people, good food... where can you go wrong?...
Read moreWhen I first pulled up to the parking lot, it felt like it was going to be weird. The restaurant is brightly lit like a cafeteria and the seating didn't look comfortable. I was going to be proven wrong.
I ordered green curry chicken with jasmine rice. It came to the table piping hot and the flavors were spot on and fresh. The menu said the spice level for the green curry was 3 and it was spicy. The heat lasted for a few moments with each bite but did not overwhelm me. It has been a while since I've had thai food, so my mouth and tongue may be more wimpy than another person's. Their thai iced tea with coconut milk ( you can opt for half and half, but why?) was fantastic. They bring it to the table with the coconut milk floating on top of the tea, and it looked awesome. The taste was perfect as well. I ordered the Tom kha soup with chicken to go with a spice level of 3 (wish my tongue luck). I cannot wait to have this when I return home from this business trip.
Bozeman is not my favorite Montana city. The ratio of transplanted Californians to Montanans is way out of whack. There are restaurants that pretend to be something they are not and charge a premium because they can. Thai Basil is NOT one of those places and I am thrilled that I tried it out. The service is friendly and efficient; even during a busy dinner hour. Many thanks to them for showing me that I can enjoy a meal in Bozeman and to not judge a restaurant from the...
