Not good. Don’t have much to base it in besides service. Had a very big party that reservation was somehow dropped. As a guest of this party, tried to go ahead and stay in the bar area for dinner. We got tables in the bar area and attempted to order food and drink and were told we had to go to the bar to order drinks and food. They did not offer a server nor did the bartender even bother to try to come take orders from anyone. The people that ordered from the bar were served by what I think were kitchen staff and hosts. Those people should have gotten an applause tonight because they were the only ones that stepped up to help. There was a guy that might have been the manager(?) that looked like he was helping deliver food. But there was the bartender that seemed to have the “burned out” attitude. If you are going to be in customer service you have to try. Going above and beyond are either establishment protocols or servers themselves. Customer service! But as a bartender, he could have tried to help out. Instead he seemed to be miffed at the amount of people and let the other staff take care of it. Those people who probably get a small portion of tips while this person gets the most. And most seemed to be back of house. They aren’t the service side yet they were the one trying the hardest or pushed to. This is a expensive space, making drinks, and food expensive too. You better have fantastic food and service to back it up. I couldn’t even speak to he food since I didn’t have that luxury of ordering. This was frustrating. At least the birthday girl tried to have good faith to the restaurant. She was trying to make the best of it. Good on her. I was so frustrated and unimpressed. Again I can’t speak for food. I hope they can can step up there service game. I’ve been in a handful of times for a drink since it opened. Only one girl (I wish I knew her name) was super sweet. Several months later.......things...
Read moreTo preface my review, please note that I have 25 years in the food service industry including plenty of time in fine dining. I'm familiar with paying a premium price for a premium experience (service, ingredients, preparation, etc).
Nothing was bad per se. Our server was great, probably the best part of our visit. It was dead, so anything less than blazing fast service would have been suspect, but I can't speak to how it runs during average to busy times.
As for everything else, except maybe the desserts, prices were artificially inflated to create the impression of quality. For example the server claimed they were the only Montana establishment that received a particular grade of beef. My filet was prepared correctly, rare, but was nothing special. This is Montana. I can get better beef in a dozen places nearby, not to mention local beef, not shipped in from out of state as was the case according to our server. Portion sizes were far too small, especially on the 'cheap' ingredients. The tiny portion of potatoes was beyond disappointing. Everything else followed suit. The duck was prepared well, the creamed corn was alright, etc.
As I said, nothing was bad, but I can think of plenty of other nearby establishments at similar (or slightly lesser) price points that deliver better ingredients, more realistic portions, & an overall...
Read moreI don't normally post online reviews, but I feel compelled to voice my disappointment with not only the food I ate at Urban Kitchen but the underlying problem that this type of restaurant represents. First of all, there is hardly anything on the menu without meat on it, which I find to be and out-dated approach to food devoid of concern for people's various diets and attention to the environmental issues posed by over consumption of meat. However, I understand that that is the status quo. What I found truly dissappointing was the incredible lack of quality in the food, especially considering the price tag. If you are going to charge astronomical prices for uncomplicated dishes, It's a shame and an insult to the informed consumer to serve Cisco grade ingredients, especially considering the local bounty at this time of year. Growing up in bozeman, I take serious issue with new businesses catering to the escalating wealth in the community without attempting to match the quality with the price, and without any effort to support local farms or ranches. I am concerned for the rapidly decreasing standards in the restaurant industry as people prioritize profits over everything else. I hope this restaurant improves because they have the potential to be a quality...
