It was good, but unfortunately I wasn't too impressed. Good selection of food at a good price, but the service took a bit long and the food was lacking flavor.
I visited during the OC restaurant week and for $15 you get a three course meal during lunch time. Whether you opted in for the special menu or just ordered off their regular menu, they have pretty good pricing and tons of options on the menu.
Lunch seemed pretty slow, despite it being the OC restaurant week. We were seated almost immediately and our server took our beverage order about 10 minutes later. Lemonades have free refills. About 5 minutes later our server took our order for all three courses. The nice part was we were given a small salad as a starter. The salad resembled the Benihana's salad given as a starter. Our salad had a lot of dressing, once we finished our salad there was a small pool of dressing. It was free and good, so not a big deal. My friend ordered the Hibachi Combo rice and she really enjoyed it. It was fried rice with chicken, pork, and shrimp, pretty big portion. I ordered the pan friend gyozas. They tasted good, but were a bit oily. I should've ordered the rice. I don't think they're made at the location since they tasted very generic, nonetheless still good. We both ordered the pork ramen. The ramen had a strong peanut or nut smell. The broth itself lacked flavor, for some reason it didn't have a strong pork flavor. The pork meat tasted amazing! Pretty big portion as well. For the amount of food, $15 is a great deal. For now the location is just okay in my opinion, I probably will return to try their sushi since they have a huge selection. They offer brown rice as a sushi rice alternative and they also offer gluten free soy sauce.
Service did take long at times, especially to receive...
Read moreIt is unfortunate that I have to give a bad rating to Kabuki Japanese Restaurant, Brea. We have dined at the Kabuki Japanese Restaurant in Pasadena with no issues and with a large group. My wife and I stopped in for dinner since it was a Thursday night and it would not be crowded. My wife ordered a chicken and beef teriyaki plate. I ordered 4 individual pieces of sushi and one hand sushi roll. That is it - 5 pieces of sushi. My wife was finished with her dinner of soup, salad, chicken and beef teriyaki and I still had not received my small sushi order. The food server came to our table twice to try instill that my order was coming but they were back-up with orders. After spending 40 minutes (with no hot tea refills), I told the food server and manager to cancel my sushi order. When I was paying my tab, the manager told me that a story that one of the sushi chefs had to go to the hospital since he cut himself while working. First and foremost, you do not explain to me as the patron that the manager gave. That was totally disgusting. Second, if the sushi chefs are running behind in completely orders, tell me as the customer that it will be a long wait to get my order. Be honest. I would have ordered something else. But to try and appease me or simply lie to the me as the patron is extremely poor business. Kabuki Japanese Restaurant (all of them) have lost my business forever. I will make sure that my family and friends who visit japanese restaurants to dine, never go to Kabuki Japanese...
Read moreI rarely write online reviews but when I do, it’s because my experience has been awful. Long story short, an order was placed on 1/21/2025 through Uber Eats at approximately 2:40 pm PST for my parents with a delivery time between 5:00-5:30pm PST. When the food arrived close to 5:30pm, the entire order was extremely cold. I called Kabuki the next day and spoke to Dillon, the Host, who was by far the most helpful. He confirmed the order was cooked as soon as the order was placed and sat in the widow until the Uber driver picked up the order, nearly three hours later. I asked to speak to the Manager, Peter, who was too busy to take the call or call me back. The next day, I called again and spoke to Kai, another Host. He told me Matt was the Manager on Duty, but was too busy to take my call and that he would call me back. The following day, no call from Matt so I called again myself. I was told Caitlin was the Manager on Duty that day and left my number. No call from Caitlin. Later that day, I received a call from Matt. He basically told me there was no way to verify if it was an Uber Eats issue but certainly did not take any responsibility on behalf of Kabuki. I hope this review helps out anyone who is considering a delivery order at Kabuki. I certainly will not...
