I’ve been going to this 24 Hour Fitness for over a year now, and while there are a couple of positives, there are also quite a few issues that have made my experience frustrating at times.
The Good:
Some of the staff are genuinely friendly.
I rarely have to wait for machines or equipment, which is probably the main reason I continue going.
The Not-So-Good:
Cleanliness is lacking. The gym doesn’t feel like it’s maintained to a high standard.
A lot of the equipment is older, and not only is there a limited quantity, but some pieces have clearly been worn out for a long time without being replaced. For example, the same stairmaster has been out of order as long as I can remember.
Spray bottles for cleaning equipment are in terrible condition. I’d say half of them don’t even work to a reasonable standard, and that’s not an exaggeration. There’s even one bottle so bad you literally have to unscrew the top and pour the solution onto a towel.
Paper towel dispensers are occasionally empty, which defeats the purpose of trying to clean machines. One of the dispensers actually fell off the wall long ago and was never replaced. For my workout today, all (which is only two) of the towel dispensers in the weight area were empty for nearly my entire workout.
Some machines don’t have enough weight plates nearby, and it becomes a bit of a scavenger hunt to find what you need. To get smaller plates like 2.5 or 5 lbs, you even have to go to the front desk and trade something for them.
Repairs can take a long time. The seated hamstring curl was out of order for what felt like a month. The standing calf raise still has no grip, making your feet slip off the platform—and I reported this months ago.
I’ve submitted feedback through the website and also spoken to staff directly, but it feels like the issues go ignored. For example, I reported a stairmaster that only had a working “faster” button and not the "slower" button (which is dangerous), and days later it still wasn’t fixed and had no “out of order” sign.
The men's locker room has an ongoing foul smell coming from the sink area. Not a huge deal, but not pleasant either.
The gym lacks amenities compared to competitors. There are no recovery services or modern features—just weights, machines, cardio, and a pool.
Pricing is not competitive given the limited offering.
The club manager has aggressive sales tactics. Instead of trying to assist a family member with a membership issue, he attempted to pressure them into purchasing a $300 training program, claiming that it was the only way he could help. We solved the problem ourselves with Customer Service, and didn't have to pay anything.
Growing up, I thought of 24 Hour Fitness as a premium brand, but unfortunately, this location doesn’t live up to that image. The only reason I’ve stayed is because it’s close to home and I rarely have to wait for equipment. But in terms of quality, service, and upkeep—it really leaves a lot to be desired. Evaluate the tradeoff between convenience and quality to determine which gym is...
Read moreI was looking for a new home gym after a job change. I went to the Brea location to check it out (on 4/1/23). I was very pleased with the layout, the machines and the general atmosphere. It looked well kept and clean. Until I went into the ladies locker room. The locker area was fine, a lot of room, restroom area was just fine, until I went to the showers. There were clumps of hair not only in the shower stalls, but also in the walkway, wet crumpled paper towels on the floor and a wet sock. Okay it was a Saturday morning, maybe the cleaning crew called out Friday night. I gave the benefit of the doubt and decided to choose this location. Monday morning @ 5am, had a great workout, got to shower and the same mess was still in the shower. Okay, disappointed but I chose the cleanest stall and started my shower. Barely got wet when the water started backing up... it was clogged. Chose another, door wouldn't close. Chose a 3rd, started okay, but it also filled with water. Okay, I needed to finish quick and decided to notify them on the way out. As I was getting dressed, another member came in. I asked if she was a regular, she was. She told me the showers are ALWAYS filthy (her words), she doesn't believe they clean on a regular schedule and she never washes her hair there because the drains are regularly clogged and she tries to get out fast. She did say that they have fixed the drainage but it doesn't last long and the clogged drains return... VERY DISAPPOINTING. For the city of Brea to be represented this way is such a shame. Not to mention, many members pay good money to belong to a gym and they deserve better. I am sure I will see a "canned" response from 24 Hr. Fitness, but don't bother. Fix you gym, take some pride, value...
Read moreBecause of my busy schedule, the only time I can attend the gym is before work. I live closer to the gym on imperial (which is 24 hours, so you’d think it would be more convenient) but I choose to come ti the brea location for many reasons.. The cleaniless, the gym is either always clean or a team member is always cleaning it weather it’s refilling the hand sanitizer or making sure they’re is always paper towel. The people, the woman at the front desk! GOSH! I don’t know how she does it. 5am and she always has the brightest smile on her face greeting every person that walks in with a smile and a good morning! Very nice to see hence, she is the first person I see in the morning and her personality just gives me the boost I need to have a great work out. Not so crowded, I’m not sure about other times but the morning I don’t ever have to wait for the machines and if I do I have enough time to use another machine without feeling like I have to rush back to use the machine. 5 stars for 24 hour...
