We used to love Kenosha, but our visit and the attitude about it was terrible. We came here every year on our trip and the burgers were always excellent. Even though the burgers are more expensive than other places nearby that people recommended we stayed loyal because the burgers were really good. The meat was very good, flavorful, and juicy every time. We arrived at 4:45 on Friday.
We all order burgers medium as they recommend and we have always done. My wife ordered the bison chili and asked for it to come out first. That took over 10 minutes. We weren't concerned because we were enjoying the nice weather on the patio. We did notice tables around us that ordered slightly before and after us getting their meals before us, but we weren't concerned because we weren't in a hurry. Our burgers finally came. My wife and kids cut their burgers in half as they always do to make them more manageable because of their size. We immediately noticed they were all well done and there was no juice at all when cut. It took a couple bites of mine to discover that it was also way overcooked, dry, and a bit tough. Our kids were hungry from playing and wanted to eat so we added extra sauce to cover the dry burger and let them start. We finally saw our waitress for the first time after 5 minutes and pointed out the burgers were overcook. We were told this was "normal because they are flame grilled and keep cooking when sitting at our table" and she walked off before we could respond and tell her we have never had a burger like that in any of our previous visits or ask if they could remake the burgers.
We decided that we might as well eat since we were starving and clearly the restaurant didn't care. As I began to eat I realized how terrible my burger was because it was so overcooked and decided to take a picture to show a manager if I could find one. Our waitress spotted me and magically appeared a minute later to tell me they were taking 20% off our bill because of it and rushed off again. Again no chance to ask anything. The 20% off basically makes it the same price as other burger places nearby. We really just wanted our burgers made correctly, not a discount. I have attached the picture I took that I assume got her attention
At this point she started avoiding our table and area. We ran out of water because we were drinking a lot of it to get our dry burgers down. We finally caught her attention to get the water bottle on the table refilled and she took it with her. We saw her bring drinks and food to many other table for almost 15 minutes and had to ask for water a couple more times before we got it. We were given the excuse she couldn't carry it with everything else she had even though we had been waiting much longer than other tables she was bringing drinks to. I assume we were just being ignored because she figured she wasn't getting a tip from our table after the problems and wasn't trying. The delays and being ignored kept us there much longer than otherwise and we had noticed the hostess kept looking our way. I'm sure she wanted the table, but we were waiting on them.
After paying we went inside and I looked for a manager to talk to after not seeing anyone outside, but couldn't find anyone. Even with 20% off this was way overpriced for a fast food quality burger patty that even my kids refused to finish. On this trip my wife tried the Colorado Mac Daddy burger. It sounds interesting, but wasn't. We picked some pork off since the burger was so dry and found it had no flavor and was very dry as well. I wasn't expecting great bbq on it, but I don't imagine this burger would be very good even with the burger cooked correctly. If you decided to try Kenosha I would stick to another burger.
I hope this was just an off night, but we won't we back after this. There are so many burger places that people have told us are excellent so we will be trying those to find a new...
Read moreDisappointing Experience from a Place We Usually Love
My wife and I both work in hospitality here in Breckenridge, and we’ve spent years working on Main Street. We’ve always loved coming to Kenosha for drinks with friends and taking advantage of the great workman’s menu. It's been one of our go-to spots — until now.
Today, we had the worst service we've ever experienced in town. My wife just returned from traveling for two months, and I wanted to take her out for a relaxing sunny lunch. Unfortunately, what should’ve been a nice moment turned into an uncomfortable, frustrating experience.
We ordered wings as an appetizer, along with a wrap and a salad. The food came out quickly — which was fine — but our entrees arrived before the wings. Our server casually said, “I figured it was okay since you ordered a salad and the wings are your protein.” As industry professionals, we know you can easily set courses in Toast, and it felt dismissive. Still, we let it go.
After finishing our meals, our plates were cleared, and then we waited. And waited. We sat for about 35 minutes in the sun, patiently hoping she’d come back to check on us — but she never did. We noticed she only had a couple of tables outside. Eventually, we flagged down the host to ask for her.
When the server finally returned, she dropped the payment device on the table and stood just a foot away from me, hovering and watching the tip screen. I asked if there was a local discount — not an unusual question in Breck. Her response was cold: “Oh, well, yeah… we usually do that for regulars. But I guess I can give you 10%.”
Our bill was around $40. I had initially planned to tip $15, as I normally do, especially with a local discount. But based on the service, I tipped $5. As soon as I did, she walked away — only to turn around in front of other guests and say loudly, with a sarcastic tone, “Thanks for the local tip.” Then she took a few more steps, turned back again, and glared at me.
That was it for me. I walked inside and calmly spoke with the bartender and manager, both of whom were super chill and understanding. I explained that the whole experience wasn’t okay. I’ve had tough customers myself, but I would never speak to them like that — especially not about tips. I told the manager I wanted my $5 back if this was how she was going to act. He agreed and took my info to refund it.
Look, we all have hard days — especially in Summit County — but we’re in this industry together. Everyone deserves respect, whether you're a tourist or a local. If a server is going to complain about tips, hover over guests, and respond with sarcasm when they don’t like what they get, then they shouldn’t be working in this industry. Simple as that.
We know and respect so many people in the local restaurant scene — from Whiskey Star to Giampietro’s, Briar Rose, Hearthstone, The Canteen, Blue Stag, The Quandary, and more. We were literally just in Mexico for a wedding with a few local restaurant managers/severs and bartenders last week. We're part of this community, and we hold ourselves — and each other — to a standard.
This was just a disappointing reminder that not everyone in the industry represents it the way it deserves. We hope it was just a one-off and that this doesn’t become the norm at a place we’ve always loved… and recommended to tourists and...
Read moreWe've been coming to Breckenridge for years now and this restaurant has been on my list to try. I'm glad we finally tried it. We started out with happy hour specials on the Moscow mule, Rosy cheeks and the wings. All of these were delicious. The wings were very hot and crunchy and a very tasty start to the meal. My husband started with the steakhouse burger and he loved it. Tender, thick and delicious, with the only complaint being a miniscule amount of char. We shared a delicious basket of onion rings. I had the Top Sirloin entree with garlic mashed potatoes and garlic mushrooms to top the steak. It was incredibly delicious and at $26 for 8 oz, it was a good deal. The steak was perfectly cooked with the perfect amount of seasonings and jucyness. It passed the test of not needing any steak sauce. The mushrooms and mashed potatoes were very tasty as well. We both had a house salad as a side. The lettuce was fresh and the ranch was delicious. My only complaint was that the salads were brought out at the same time as the entrees. I would recommend checking the website against the prices you are being charged here. It was $5 off the steakburger on Tuesday according to the website, which would have made the entree $14. We were told their website and their internal system don't always agree or something and we were charged $15 with a $4 discount instead. Not a huge deal, but something worth noting since we were told the server couldn't do anything about it and no effort would be made to rectify this. All together, it was a wonderful meal and I highly recommend this restaurant for great food at a reasonable price. We will definitely return here the next time we are in...
