Server Bait & switch on the Happy Hour. We walked in and a very friendly hostess showed us a happy hour menu and explained that we could sit in the cantina area for happy hour menu & the regular menu or the regular dining area with the regular menu only. We said, heck let's go for happy hour. Get in the cantina. The regular menus are already scattered on all the tables...no happy hour menus anywhere, that the hostess had just sold us on. The server comes and asks us if we wanted drinks...pretty friendly. She brought our drinks over and pointed over to an area in the corner for "serve yourself" chips and salsa. I told her we were waiting on our daughter to order and she said. "Cool." Then I asked for the happy hour menu...she rolled her eyes and disappeared. Came back and slapped it on the table & disappeared. I told my husband...I see what's going on here. I watched her do the EXACT same thing to every table that came in after us. When our daughter arrived, the server stopped to see if we were ready to order. I asked if we could get her a drink first so she could look at the menu. We got another look again before she disappeared. She returned and slammed the pepsi on the table and walked off. I told my husband...I want to just go to the dining room as this chick has no soul. I was a server for years. That place likely makes bank regardless with all the vacationers...and she gets pissed when her "bait and switch" doesn't work. I watched her do this with others. A table of 6 actually got up and left the restaraunt alltogether. This server actually attempting to withold happy hour from patrons...? As I mentioned I was a server and we are on vacation...and I would have tipped well. The food was actually pretty good. The server and the b.s. with happy hour is the reason for the 2 star review. Hoping management reads this and checks in on the happy hour server(s) and the way this one ruined the environment for patrons trying to enjoy vacation and a HAPPY HOUR THEY ARE SELLING. If you don't want patrons to enjoy a happy hour, don't have your hostess sell it as an option...then allow your server to treat guests that way when they want to partake in happy hour. I told my daughter that I have NEVER left 0 for a tip. Never say never. 🤷♀️. It's easy around here to make money on pure volume alone. I get it. You have to have a soul to be good at hospitality though...and in this case, this server belongs in the dish room away...
Read moreThe location of the restaurant was amazing and the ambience and overall feelings were way above my expectations. The intricate design of the restaurant paired with typical plants from an average mexican household made it seem like I was eating mexican food in mexico itself. Unfortunately, the food was way below my standards. Firstly, the tacos were all priced at an expensive amount of 16$ for tacos, which translates to a crazy 8$ per taco. What made it even worse was that the rice and beans were separate and you had to pay an extra 4$ to get them. The food was advertised to be spicy and flavorful but my red snapper tacos were bland pieces of cod with random pieces of cabbage that tasted like plastic. The only way I could offset the horrid taste of the tacos was by adding beans, meaning I had to pay extra. The beans were slightly on the saltier side which ruined my overall taste pallet. The rice came as an extremely small portion and it was covered in cheap bits of peas and sad, soggy carrots. However, the service was great and she regularly checked up on us to ensure we were enjoying the food so we left a generous tip. Overall, the bland food was extremely overpriced but the reason 3 stars were given was because of the nice restaurant atmosphere and design along with friendly service. I don’t plan on coming back here unless they hire new chefs with an understanding of what true...
Read moreWhile in town for a marriage retreat, my wife and I went on a snowy Friday evening with three other couples on a tip from a friend (who also joined us with his wife). We sat at a large table in the center of a spacious room with a warm, inviting atmosphere. The staff is friendly, courteous and helpful. We started with baskets of chips and salsa, served in oblong, iron dishes with a compartment for each of three types of salsa. I couldn’t get enough of the smoky (and quite spicy) rojo. The chips were good, but the salsa was outstanding. I had water only, but my friends loved the drinks, especially the avocado pineapple margarita.
I ordered The Sampler: a carnitas tamale, a chicken tamale and a chile relleno, with black beans and Oaxacan rice. Mexican restaurant sides are often merely okay, but these were excellent. The tamales and relleno were huge, and the sauces on them were amazing. The carnitas tamale was drizzled with chimichurri, and the chicken with a sweet, gold sauce I can’t recall the name of, but it was delicious. Our experience was so enjoyable that we returned on Saturday evening with another three couples and dined at the same table! I even ordered The Sampler again. I wish we had a Mi...
