Yamato Japanese Steakhouse — Restaurant in Brockton

I enjoy the food and drinks here and I love the manager (Toni) . However, the owner has always been a bit rude and lack customer service skills through my observation. I got to finally experience first hand when me and a friend attempted to eat there a few weeks ago. He looked us up an down upon arrival when we sat at the bar. He asked what I wanted to drink and I asked for water. I had every intention on getting a drink but I wanted water first. He then made a comment " why come to the bar and get water? " his tone and demeanor did not come off as a joke to me. When my friend asked him why he made that comment the owner got loud while walk around the bar so other customers can hear him. While my friend and myself maintained our composure. The owner keep saying " you can't take a joke, you can't take a joke" and was very upset and carrying on. I was the one that had to disfuse the situation and tell everyone to stop! I wanted to try and stay and make the best of our time but the owner then avoided us and didn't attempt to take our order or asked if I was ready to get a drink for a good amount of time. At that point my friend and I decided to leave. We then had to flag him down ( due to his advoiance) and pay for the beer that my friend got and left. I was very disappointed because everyone else has always been nice but I can not spend money where I am only tolerated and not respected. We went there last Saturday with a group of 8 for my birthday. My husband called 2 days ahead of time to make a reservation. When we got there we were put in the corner which at first we didn't mind, but we soon came to realize that being in the corner we would be easily forgotten. One person in our party ordered sushi which did not come to the table until way after the hibachi was over. Another member of our party never got her food at all. After multiple attempts to get the server's attention and asking about the food twice, the server told her that the kitchen was very busy and they asked her if she still wanted her food. Which means the food never even started cooking after asking about it twice already, and being at the restaurant for over an hour. At this point everybody else in the party had paid and were finished. The person who never received her food then got a bill for her food! She had to take even more time and go speak with the manager to get the food taken off the bill.

Lastly a friend of mine informed me that she told our server said it was my birthday and they never acknowledged it. I honestly did not mind, but my friend was trying to make it special. There were many others that evening which were celebrating birthdays, who were sang to and recieved a dessert.It was a disappointing experience compared to the past. Yamatos is overpriced for what you are getting. The food is very generic and very disappointing. Service was slow and staff wasn't welcoming. Ordered some drinks: Mai tai and a virgin strawberry daiquiri. The daiquiri was too sweet and wasn't enjoyable.

Avocado salad- I thought it was going to be avocado base where the avocados would be cut up with crab meat and masago and all that but nope. Literally the house salad with lettuce on the bottom and half an avocado sliced on top. Don't order this we were devastated when we received it.

Salmon lover roll. The roll was very dry and the texture can be compared to tuna in a can.

Hawaiian roll - decent but still nothing mind blowing. It was wrapped with crab meat and looked very appetizing.

Beef teriyaki - the meat was tough and the accompaniments were not good. The fried siu Mai was mushy on the inside and I wasn't able to see or taste much of the shrimp. It came with vegetable tempura and that wasn't crispy and lacked in seasoning. It also came with rice and a small California roll. The plate was barely touched and definitely wasn't worth anything.

Shrimp pad Thai - the sauce was overly sweet and didn't have peanuts! I was so angry because it not pad Thai without the crunchy nuts.
