On Saturday, September 21, 2019, My mother, sister, and I went to Cho Sun Ok Korean BBQ restaurant located on Beach Boulevard and cross street La Palma Avenue. The restaurant is near all the attractions such as Knott's Berry Farm, Medieval Times, etc., in Buena Park. My mother, sister, and I are first time customers, and we are ethnically Korean. My family and I heard good news about the restaurant from other Korean people and also Korean television advertisement, which prompted us into going to Cho Sun Ok restaurant for my birthday.
Unfortunately, I would not recommend this restaurant to anybody, not even someone who is ethnically Korean. First, my family and I were completely ignored by the waitresses. The restaurant has a bell ringer at each table to call the waitresses, my sister rang the bell three times, and none of the waitresses came by to see if we were all right, and to see if we needed something extra. Instead, the waitresses continued to serve other customers who I think are "dan-gu so-neem," in Korean this means a longtime loyal customer or a customer who is a regular. Second, the waitresses did not deliver the drinks or refreshments upon our arrival. My family and I have been to tones of restaurants, and the first thing the waitresses deliver to each table was the refreshments such as water, tea, sodas, etc. Third, the restaurant is on the pricey side. My family and I ordered Combo B for three people, and paid $107 and some cents for the meal. My family and I paid $120.00, even though the service from the waitresses were horrible.
The reason why I gave this restaurant three stars is because the Manager/restaurant owner came by our table and apologized for the actions of the waitresses. The Manager/restaurant apologized not just verbally, but in a formal Korean way by slightly bowing down. This is a typical formality of apologizing in a respectful way in Korean culture. And at the end, she gave my mother a container filled with "sudong-cha," which is a tradional Korean cinnamon drink that is served cold.
I highly recommend the Manager/restaurant owner to fire the waitress who was suppose to be our server. One reason is because I do not want to see Korean businesses closing down because of the actions of the workers. If you want to have a prosperous business, you need to have good workers who treat all customers the same. My family agreed that the Manager is good, but the waitresses...
Read moreTried this restaurant after knotts and got a subpar experience. When we sat there the waitress told us that the soup was not good for us and said mostly Koreans like it and not anyone else. No one was offered a drink at all. We were forced into a section and rushed. Eventually we chose the ribs which was not bad. We got our food and the server never came back until we left. Right next to us was a new group of people I believe were Korean or some other ethnicity and they got their drink and tea right away. Their choice wasn't influenced by the server, and she came back frequently as I seen. My 1 year old baby started fussing and we had a bottle of water we were carrying from Knott's that relieved her fuss. We finished our food and I waited for the server for our bill and no one checked on us. I walked up to the counter asked for the bill and paid it. As we left the server finally came out and stopped us for a tip that she searched the table for. She complained and we told her she didn't deserve it and she got salty. I don't recommend unless...
Read moreI recently dined at this restaurant and unfortunately had a negative experience with the staff. While the food was good and the service was fine, I was uncomfortable when a waitress followed us to the parking lot to ask about our tip. Even worse, another waitress approached us shortly after to ask the same thing. We had already left a generous tip of almost 30% on our $270 meal, and it made us feel uncomfortable to be questioned about it. I understand the importance of tipping, but this experience left a sour taste in my mouth. I hope the management can address this issue with their staff so that future customers don't have to experience the same discomfort. Overall, I would recommend the food, but be cautious when it comes to tipping at...
