I think a lot of the people who have given this property such bad ratings previously have never been to California, nor know how to communicate with employees to remedy trivial issues. I had a fine stay at this property and it is most certainly a value property. No bells and whistles, just a convenient stay.
The Staff: Everyone was super polite, especially the front desk women. They were able to accommodate all of my requests and did so in a timely manner
The Room: You can tell this is an older property that was acquired, and the new owners have tried to spruce up an old property. The room is nothing special, but pleasant enough. Hot shower, fair water pressure, A/C and heat, a tv, coffee maker etc. No frills, but not lacking. It's a fairly noisy property, you can hear your neighbors, and when people walk by your room, but that really didn't bother me.
Cleanliness: I wasn't super impressed with the cleanliness of my room. I told the people at the front desk my floor was dirty, and they sent cleaners to sweep and mop it. I think my only true gripe about cleanliness was that the comforter on the bed had seen better days. It was pretty stained, but the bed itself didn't feel/seem dirty.
Someone made a post about bed bugs that scared the daylights out of me. I did not experience anything of that nature and was very vigilant. Also, I didn't witness any sort of cockroaches in my entire stay. The property seemed cleanly, but if you're traveling to California be aware that cockroaches are common in most any setting.
Surrounding Area: This place is very ideal for travel. You're close to the highway and all sorts of entertainment. Bonus points for plenty of affordable restaurants and grocery stores nearby. Some people made posts about homeless and feeling unsafe. Again, this is California. There are bound to be homeless anywhere you go and this particular hotel does very well with security. They have cameras all around the external property and a security patrol.
Breakfast: Everyone wants to complain about their minimal breakfast offering... In all of my travel (Which is a lot) I've found that any free breakfast at a hotel, especially a non chain hotel is pretty minimalist. In fact, it is quite common to have to pay for any sort of breakfast at most hotels. If you need more than a bagel/cereal, there is an incredible bakery across the street that will knock your socks off
Conclusion: Great value-driven place to stay. Manage your expectations beforehand and politely consult staff if something isn't up to your...
Read moreI read the reviews before coming here, and I wasn't sure what to expect, but after I arrived, I was pleasantly surprised. Here is a description of my experience staying at the Buena Park Hotel and Suites. Plenty of parking spaces go around the entire perimeter of the hotel. Genesis helped us at the front desk. She was friendly and delightful. I gave her my room preference, and she accommodated me. We stayed in room 202 on the second floor overlooking the pool area, but closer to the adjacent tables. We got some water and chips from the vending machines, and then we walked up an elegant staircase in the lobby to access our room. The hotel is not themed, but it does have a charm to it. I enjoyed all of the lovely ironwork lining the staircase and all along the perimeter of the hotel walkways. Our room was great. It looked exactly like the picture on the hotel's website. The room was perfectly clean, the shower was luxurious, the A/C was cold, and the bed was comfortable. There is a mini fridge and a microwave, a large television, a coffee maker, mini toiletries, a blow dryer, towels, and just everything you would expect from a hotel. It was quiet and peaceful, and we both slept really well. In the morning, we enjoyed a free breakfast in the lobby. There were juices, coffee, decaf, muffins, breads, bagels, yogurt, and cereal—a few other items, too, like butter, jams, and syrup. There are also hot waffle irons and a waffle batter dispenser so you can cook your own fresh waffles. That's what we did. The hotel does not allow breakfast to be consumed in the room, so everyone sits at all the tables set out in the lobby and next to the pool. After breakfast, we changed into our bathing suits and went for a swim. The jacuzzi was not hot, but the pool was fresh and felt great. Next, we packed and checked out right before 11 am. The whole staff was really sweet and always happy to help in any way. This is a great little hotel, and I will 100% be staying here again.
Check-in is at 4 pm If you want to check in early, you will have to pay a $50 fee. Check out is at 11 am Breakfast is from 7 am to 9 am - you have to eat your food at the tables provided and not in your room. Reviews say the jacuzzi is never working, and it wasn't working when we were there, so I am not sure why that might be. Pool hours are from 8 am to 8 pm The deepest part of the pool is 4...
Read moreIf there was a way to rate this place with a negative 10, that's what I would give it. These are the issues that I found in the suite that we stayed in:
The doors were very difficult to open with the key card. It was a "place the card in front of the card reader" style system. There was a green dimly lit light bar that was cracked and dimly lit. It took 4 scans of the card before I could get into the room.
The light switch by the door was not dedicated to any light fixture. It was dedicated to a wall outlet with a rolling switch lamp that was in the off position. We arrived at night, and had to keep the door open to find the light switch.
There was NO lighting available in the separate sleeping room. The lamp had a broken plug, and there were only 3 plug outlets in a large sleeping quarters, two of those were behind the head of the bed. We had to pull the beds away from the wall to access them. One double outlet behind our bed had a broken plug on top.
There was black mold in both bathrooms near the tub areas.
There was only two wash rags in a suite that slept six plus people. There was limited facial tissues.
There is no elevator service for a second floor room.
The night shift manager was rude in many ways. When I asked about elevator service for the upper floors, he answered in a condescending way, "We only have two floors!"
I have personally seen several motels-hotels with only 2 floors that do have elevators.
There was hard candy and trash on the floor from a previous guest/resident.
While having a continental breakfast, they had no eggs or meat available at the breakfast. I have been to several hotels and motels that offered eggs and meat with their continental breakfast.
I would never suggest this place as an option to stay in while...
